  1. the 10d is nolonger available new. i will probably end up with svs, but i can hear and try the new r-110sw locally and if not satisfied i can return it for a restocking fee. i may start out a 60hertz . when i talked to svs they suggested 60hz for the forte. below 60hz the sound is not as localized. jb ps as i stated i only need a little extra guts for movies and a fast tight sound for music
  2. iam also thinking about the svs they have a nice sealed sub for about $700. how about the r-110sw. jb
  3. I have just completed my restoration of klipsch forte speakers. I would like to add a sub woofer. which one of the new klipsch subs would be the best for music. I want to add a small amount of low end for movies but still be articulate for music as most of my listening is music. thanks jb ps I will be most likely be crossing at 60 hertz
  4. I have a thread under "forte restoration" I am going to need new 12in woofers for my fortes. bob crites has replacement speakers. are there any better speakers than the ones he sells. I don't mind paying more if they actually are better . thanks JB
  5. I plan to take pictures this weekend. the cabinet refinishing came out nice like except I used a dark cherry over the walnut, now all I need to do is use some polish or wax on them. as far as the crossovers etc. will be replaced with new parts. I do not want to assembly and find out that I need to replace parts. all your help is appreciated but I want the fortes to be as close to new as possible. they are to replace my legacy classics so they have to be very good. the thing I need help with is the acoustic foam. some of it is missing. the only thing I can find online is the acoustic egg crate foam, it will have to due if I can't find anything better. thanks JB
  6. in this forum I have a thread called "forte restoration" where you can find info about this. what I need now is help. my fortes are missing some of the acoustic foam. on the web I found acoustic eggcrate foam, will this take the place of the original foam to stop the standing waves or do I need to try something else. I will probably go with 1 in or 1 1/2 in . thanks jb
  7. 2 weeks ago I bought a pair of fortes. these speakers will need every thing. to use an old horse analogy they were "rode hard and put away wet". they have no risers one of the woofers is blown, some of the acoustic foam is missing. the only things that are in good shape are the passive radiators, tweeters and midrange horns. so far I have removed all the electronics woofers etc. I have sanded sprayed and stained the cabinets. the next things are to replace the missing foam, new crossovers, woofers, diaphragms, pedestals etc. bob crites has all the electronics. I would also like to replace the input terminals. any advice you can give would be a great help. p.s. I will also need to replace the front screen material. thanks THE BAZMAN
  8. do any of the members have or know where I can find pedestals for forte speakers. I just purchased a pair that did not have pedestals. there were no screw holes in the bottom, so I guess they did not have them to begin with. I am going to refinish and replace every thing but the resonaters. any help would be appreciated. thanks. JB
  9. thanks derrick, you seem to know a lot about rc. in my room the system was set up on a different wall with a new cabinet. later when I had a chance to really listen I noticed the problem. besides all the other things it may have done. I feel the main deal was the eq for the room. what I was it is like the speakers sounded when they were new. thanks for the advice.
  10. I have a Yamaha 2010 for the center and rears and emotive for the fronts. if I ever replace my Yamaha I will go back to Denon I feel they have amps with more punch.
  11. I am fairly new to this forum. my advice is to make sure your avr has a good room correction. my system is legacy classic front speakers, the rf 62 center and mirage rear channel speakers except for the center which is small. my amps are Yamaha avr 2010 for center and rear channels, and emotive 200w per channel for the 2 front channels. I had trouble with muddy bass and slightly laid back upper midrange and treble. I tried several tweaks and speaker placements with no satisfying results. finally it was suggested that I use my room correction. WOW what a difference. the rc balanced my speakers and I mean all my speakers by the my room out of the equation. they are not muddy or bright just more clear. its like having anew set of speakers. most of us cannot move our speakers 2 to 4 ft into the room. my amps are set to flat no extra bass or treble. hope this will help you to sink your speakers and amp, it was the holy grail for me.
  12. sorry about the sibling, its tough when the young ones are sick. i am here in new mexico which is hi-fi no mans land when it comes to listening to speakers in the 2000 to 4000 dollar range. when it comes to finding used klipsch forget it. i may have to save up for cornwalls if i want the heritage sound. but i am worried about the crossover in the 700 to 900 hertz range. where would i go on the site to find out on the cornwalls. i had the fortes for while and i feel that with crites upgrades they would be great speakers. any help with cornwalls would be appreciated.
  13. sorry I meant to say they would sell a lot of the fortes.
  14. years ago I had a pair of forte iis I sold them and bought a pair of legacy classics. I am now ready to go back to the heritage series. I loved the fortes and wish I could find a pair some where close to new mexico. if you have a chance to buy fortes I would go for them. klipsch in their infinite wisdom decided not to include the fortes in the remake of the heritage series. for me the fortes are just rite. the heresy is to small and the corn wall is probably too big. I have been listening to some older live recordings and they just sound as live as they did on the fortes. also can anyone on the forum give me info on who I can talk to at klipsch about making the fortes available again. after looking at the forums online I am sure a lot of them. thanks
