  1. I have both sets of speakers. The only major difference that I noticed was that the Logitech sub seems boomier. When I put the systems side by side, I also noticed that the Promedias seemed to have better treble and sounded a bit more lifelike. If I did not put the systems side by side, I probably wouldn't have noticed that. If I were buying another set of 4.1 speakers, it would be a toss-up because of the price difference. If someone else were buying, I'd ask for the Promedias without hesitation. 3dss.com has reviews of both sets of speakers. They seem to cover a lot of details.
  2. I returned my first set for a buzzy amp, but now that I think about it, I think I contributed to the problem by having the wires bunched up in a big loop. The store didn't find a problem, but replaced them anyway. My second set actually had a defect, it made a loud pop when I turned them on. I got my current set in August 2002 and they are great.
  3. Shoot. I am really desperate to have surround sound instead of placing my surrounds way off to the side in front of me. How do you think 4 Z-560 satellites would sound powered by my sub? I think I am going to give it a try just out of curiosity for sound quality. Are the Promedia and Z-560 satellites relatively similar in terms of impedance and crossover? I don't want to damage anything.
  4. I really love the sound of my Promedia 4.1's (more than my friend's Z-560's), but I want to hang my rear speakers on the wall for better placement. I am thinking about trading 2 of my satellites for 2 of my friend's Z-560 satellites and hanging his on my wall. Would there be any problems running the Z-560 sats off my Promedia amp or vice versa? Thanks.
  5. I am very satisfied with my 4.1's, I have listened to my friend's Logitech Z-560's and like the Klipsch more. The Logitechs are louder, but don't seem as accurate, especially in the sub.
  6. How do you know the logitechs are any more reliable than Klipsch? I have heard reports of multiple bad sets from them too and bad amps. this is my all time favorite: http://www.geocities.com/azn_romeox/blownspeaker.htm
  7. Very interesting, I couldn't find it either. I even did a search for its catalog number, 274-868, and nothing was there. I am 99% sure that I have seen them for sale at the Radio Shack in this area.
  8. I think it does. See if they can order them for you. If not, you could probably buy them off radioshack.ca
  9. I went to Canadian Tire and picked up some RCA 16 gauge home theatre speaker wire, it is supposed to be 100% oxygen free. It looked pretty good, but it was a bit too think to fit into the little plugs nicely. Radio Shack wire would probably be alright, but if you want some high quality stuff do a little shopping around in stores like Future Shop, Visions, and A&B Sound. You will likely find something good there. If all else fails, you could probably try some good speaker wire designed for car audio systems.
  10. You should try to make your own. I probably spend 25 CAD in total on my wires, and they seem to work pretty well. It was my first time soldering when I made the wires and I didn't wreck anything. Check out Justin's site for info on how to do it.
  11. Seeing how I don't own either product, I am no expert on this. I don't think that the Audigy 2 has an optical out jack. It has a bunch of jacks that look like they're for headphones, and one of them is S/PDIF. You are probably mistaking it for optical. I think you will need something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog% 5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F005%5F003%5F009%5F004&product%5Fid=274%2D330 Then get an RCA type cable and connect to the Coax in on the DD-5.1 . I have no idea if I am right, but I think it will work.
  12. I want to get some surround sound for my DVD player. Are there any good alternatives to the DD-5.1? I want something that's pretty cheap, and even a receiver would make me happy. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
  13. Yes. I was told to contact Kromer Radio in Mississauga, ON, because they handle Klipsch products in Canada. They told me to remove the amp and send it to them for repair or replacement. It makes a lot more sense to just remove the amp than to ship the whole sub.
  14. It might not void your warranty, when I my amp died I was told to remove it from the sub and just send it in. I got a new amp about a week later.
  15. By 4 speaker mode, do you just mean a sound card setting? If so, try this: Put your soundcard into 2 speaker mode, unplug the rears from your pc, and see if there is static If no, put your soundcard into 4 speaker mode, keep the rears unplugged, and see if there is static now. If there is, it's probably something inside your pc. Try unplugging and plugging your speakers into your soundcard in different ways. if you only get static when the green and purple are plugged in together, it's likely your speakers. If so, take the speakers back to the store and show them why they need to be returned.

  17. If you mean covered with solder by tinned, then the wire is not tinned. One side is made up of copper strands of wire and the other side is silver strands
  18. To clarify, here's a picture of the wire (I hope). The Radio Shack here just seems to have the 2-color wire. Do you mean the Monster Cable setup by the "megacable", or something at Radio Shack? This message has been edited by seftonm on 09-24-2002 at 08:57 PM
  19. I got tired of adjusting the miniplugs that came with my Promedia 4.1's so I finally decided to make my own wires. I just have one little question before I start: The wire at Radio Shack has conductors of different colors, one is goldish and one is silver. Does it matter which one I make positive and which one I make negative?
  20. I am supposed to remove the preamp from my speaker to get it replaced and want to know how exactly it comes off, ie which direction do I move it, any screws, etc. Please let me know. Thanks.
  21. How long does it usually take Amy to reply? I emailed her 2 days ago and nothing yet I found out that there is now a Klipsch Authorized dealer in my town. Since my speakers are still on warranty, would I just be able to take them there to get the work done?
  22. I am turning it on with the control pod. I remember hearing that using the surge protector to turn it on can cause your speakers to never turn on again. I know that a bit of a sound is normal; my last set of speakers made a tiny sound, but this sound is loud enough to feel in your chest. I also noticed that when I unplug my sub, it makes a high pitched sound. The sound seems to come from the sub drivers themselves, not some other part like a capacitor. I will email Amy to see what she has to say.
  23. I just got my new Promedia 4.1's today and when I turned them on there was a very loud popping noise. All 3 control knobs were set at nothing and I turned them on, my dad who was sitting 10 ft away thought that the speakers would blow. This noise happens whenever I turn the speakers on or off, and seems to be coming from the preamp input on the sub. If the speakers are off and I adjust its position, I can hear static through the satellites. Once the speakers are on, they play music fine and moving the preamp input doesn't make static sound. What should I do? I picked the speakers up 2 hours ago. They came from Calgary, which is 1200 km from here, so it is not exactly easy to get the speakers serviced. Please help. Thanks. BTW, I just spent 6 weeks waiting for my old set to be replaced with these. This message has been edited by seftonm on 06-03-2002 at 06:57 PM
