Ok, so really liking the RF-5's but curiosity got the better of me this morning, had to see what the tweeter looked like. I had hoped it was a true compression driver like in the RF-83 / 63 but to my disappointment it is basically the same diaphragm that is in the RF-3 bolted on a RC / RF 7 horn?

I removed the tweeter assembly from one of my RC-7's and compared it the horn driver in the RF-5 and the horns are identical. I just swapped the RC-7 horn and driver in place of the stock 1" driver and for the life of me I cannot hear any difference?? The RC-7 driver is 1.75" and the magnet appears to be much larger so this doesn't seem right? I know I have never gotten this kind of clarity or sound out of the RF-3's-- this leads me to believe the biggest difference is in the crossover? Does any of this make sense?

Makes sense as about the only thing the RF3 and 5 share is the same driver. Other than that they are quite different. Higher quality crossover, larger horn, different tweeters, Rf-5 is taller and has a different port etc. Can't speaker for not hearing a difference when using the RC-7 horn in the RF-5.

Glad to hear you're enjoying them. The 2 vs 3 way is a hard debate with these speakers. I spent a couple hours going back an forth between the RF-5's and the KLF-20's I'd say on 90-95% of the material they were nearly indistinguishable (with a 80hz filter), it was only on a few tracks with more string and guitars that the mid-range driver in the KLF20's really showed the difference.

These are awesome speakers for framing a flat panel TV while being somewhat inconspicuous or like I have in my bedroom HT with the stands.  In this case, you probably will have to mount on wall.

Grab these for your surrounds and you are in business.

    Good luck with your sale.

    Awesome deal...GLWS

    Thanks guys!

  3. I went out there to their two day M school back in 2012. It was a blast. We got to race around with the v10 M5's, M3's and the 1M's. They give you racing helmets to keep as part of the experience. That was fun to get home, people in the airport kept trying to figure out what I was carrying. Ended up buying a Blue 2008 4 door M3 later that year. It's been a wonderful car.

Here's some random photo's from my time there.

  4. Your review is pretty much the same as my experience, basically down to the day (I got mine today as well). Was yours packed with shredded paper? Mine was and it was all inside the amp. So it took a good 10 min to clean it all out before I could install it. I asked what was wrong with mine, the day it shipped out, but all I received was "I'll ask the tech" and that was it.

When asked before I purchased what they replace and upgrade this is the response i received:

"The manufacture does not use the best quality parts - the upgrade usually is us installing a nichicon or panasonic cap instead of a chinese one. Or if the power supply has a 1 w resistor that is known to fail we install 2w and flame proof.... There are a few other upgrades / service bulletins on the amp that gets taken care of."

Overall I'm happy as well since everything is working again.

  5. I have one set of RF-5's that I'm parting with. It is in excellent condition and conservatively are an 8.5/10. No dents of dings in any of the cones and each grill only has one broken tab. They are located in Boise, ID.

    Set 1 Photos

One tower has a small chip at the rear top corner and some wear spots on the top. One broken tab on the top of one grill. Grill fabric on one is excellent, the other has some wear and has a section that has started to come unglued. No dents or dings in the cones. Do not have original jumpers.

Asking $550 and willing to ship at buyers expense.

If shipped you will receive three boxes, one per speaker and one for the horns/tweeters. Due to the size of the magnets on the horns and the shipping process, the magnets can snap off. They will be shipped separate to prevent this.
