  1. Jeff.. how far from SEATAC are you?? Can ya send a pic? thanx, Steve
  2. Speaking from experience, I owned the GFP750 and the GFA5802 (along with the GCD750), and it was the worst my system ever sounded!!( I run Klipschorns) It was extremely bright..tracked down the culprit as the preamp..Adcom did indeed swap me out for another one, and although it was better..it wasn't good! At the time, I sold the preamp and amp as a pair, and eventually sold the CD player..although it really wasn't bad at all! I went back to their older gear, the GFP565 and the GFA545II..which was a great improvement! However, Kelly is right..I went to a tube amp (SET300B) 3 years ago, and should have a Scott 130 preamp tonight.. To my ears, tubes are the ONLY way to go with Heritage.. Steve
  3. Like I said..Mooch really does think he's a dog! Steve
  4. Marvel that's a good looking cat! As Dee knows, some of us really enjoy the company of cats, as well as dogs. Although we have 3 cats, Mooch is more like a dog than the other 2..he greets me at the door after work, and hangs around for part of the evening. What a nice wind-down. It just saddens me that there are some people out there that prey on furry critters..if that's what happened, I hope the guilty party gets their just dessert. Steve
  5. Keith you've brought up a good point, and not that I've ever done it, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that some fellow KBB members may feel they're doing their fellow Klipsch affecionados a favor by pointing out certain sales in case they've overlooked them.. As for the bidding early/and high..I agree 100%..Kelly has brought this inane practice to light many times..it drives him/me /you and lots others crazy! Steve
  6. Dee our deepest sympathy goes out to you..a lot of folks don't realize how much our animals mean to us..they're like our children.. Time heals all, and you learn to live with it, but never get over it. Very sorry for your loss, Steve + Patty
  7. here's Toby, one of our adopted dogs..beagle/daschound mix..what a nice dog..can't believe anyone gave him up! Steve
  8. Indy I must have misunderstood .I was talking 2 channel, not surround.. Steve
  9. Rick I'm assuming that's the LONG wall.. Steve
  10. Indy I have never heard the part about NOT having a wall directly behind the listening area..can you elaborate? Thanx, Steve
  11. one of these days, JM..one of these days..if it's anything like Smilin's party, you'll probably be in trouble. Harder to get there from Alaska than from the lower 48! Hope you have a great get together! Steve
  12. this is how I usually have to type! Slows things down a bit (not that the beer has anything to do with it! Steve
  13. Dee that just makes me ill..we have 3 cats, all rescued..2 dogs rescued also..feel the same way about our pets as most do about their kids.. I'll try to think maybe she got her tail caught in a fence or something..but if not, hope the person responsible for this pays dearly.. Speedy recovery! Steve
  14. Rob.. unfortunately, I have a small concrete footing protruding on the left wall, and a heater duct (hot water tube) on the right wall..I'm thinking I can build half a false corner on either side to cover both obstacles, making the speaker seat in the corner.. Steve
  15. I'm awaiting anxiously..just sent my last payment for his Scott 130 preamp! Can't wait! PS..Craig, didja get my email yesterday? sent to yer NOS address.. Steve
  16. Rob that's great to hear! Guess I better get the circular saw warmed up! Steve
  17. Kelly actually, I took a lot of time gluing that spindle back on the Rega, got it level and all..I did a month's worth of A/B ing it against my Sony DVD/CD player..I hate to admit this, but I like the Sony better..never thought I'd say that..but the Sony just has better clarity, without sounding too harsh ..the Rega did sound more "analog" I guess, but maybe too laid back..I was missing some information. Maybe it's my hearing? Anyway, I turned it for what I bought it for..we all have different tastes! I'm still tweaking my room..that seems to be the worst culprit in my audio nirvana search! Steve
  18. Bob you bet! Makes ya wonder why we didn't all opt for good earphones and call it good! Seriously, there's nothing better than an excellent recording with good electronics and Klipsch..but as you noted, when the recordings are bad, it's very noticeable! Now, why was it we like this hobby?? Hmmmm Steve
  19. BTW QMan and Johnny.. GREAT PICS! I have a good idea how to take care of matters now! Thanx again! Steve
  20. Dean appreciate the post from "Dope From Hope"..I also appreciate all he other postings..I have a problem of having a concrete footing in one corner, and the heat register in ther other..can't get the perfect seal..I may just build a false wall on top of the footing, like half of a false corner to solve that speaker's problem..and possibly another half false corner in front of the wall register..hmmm..might be easier than I thought! Again, thanx all! Steve
  21. Guy I tried the link on my Mac and my Dell, and I got an error on both..says there's too many links..does the link work with yours? Incidentally, I saw you started the thread on the archives I looked up! Thanx, Steve
  22. I know this has been covered before, but I did a search on this BB, and came up with the topic, but I can't find any specs on building the false corners for KHorns..I saw one post where Macklipsch said "here it is" but I didn't see any attachment! Has someone got this info/link? Thanx! Steve
  23. thanx you guys..I've always wondered how "room treatments" would work, but they seem a bit pricey to me. I have rearranged the furniture / speakers to every conceivable position ( I am limited) finding little changes make big differences (and some were not good) I'll double check my speaker cables with an ohm meter just to make sure they aren't out of phase from the factory..I guess it COULD happen.. If I didn't have this hobby to drive me crazy what else would I do ??
  24. Tom thanx for that advice but I've triple checked that! I've reconfigured the wiring many times to no avail! What has made me wonder..one time I set the KHorns on the short wall, shooting long, and I got the exact opposite effect! Too much boominess! Go figure! The way they're set up now though is by PWK's standards.. 1 to .618..1 being the long wall distance .that's why I'm so confused..and thought it was the floor.
  25. I believe George Cardas said "the biggest variable in a stereo system is the room in which it resides" or something close to that. (not taken verbatim) So let me ask you.. I used to have my system in our main living room, with particle board floors (carpeted of course) on floor joists, elevated above ground, and the walls were wood paneling over 2 x 4s. I have long since moved to a dedicated music room, larger (but not by much) where the floor is berber carpet over concrete (ground level) and the walls are 5/8" sheetrock over 2 x 6s. The ceiling is also higher in the new room. Here's what I am experiencing, or imagining.. I seem to have lost a lot of bass, and just plain "fullness" of the music. It's like I listened to the music with the loudness switch on in the old set up, then turned it off , and decreased the bass and the music got real "thin", or "hollow". maybe this is why I long for tone controls when I am looking at preamps.. Anyway, my theory is that the concrete floors/sheetrock do not resonate like wood, therefore my "hollow" feeling. Is it me? Anyone else experience this?? Should I move back into the living room, and make the listening room into a bedroom? I only did this to keep late night music sessions from interfering with the better half's sleep! Good advice needed! Thanx!
