  1. Well, that's money that could have been spent on hookers and blow. Gotta have your priorities straight you know. Biggest thing that sucks for me is the self employment tax. Basically figure out your normal taxes then you have 15.3% more tax on top of that. Most people's effective rate isn't even that. You might consider incorporating... at least a LLC or S corp and pay yourself a salary. Yes, you will pay double on the FICA but you pay yourself a reasonable salary. Cost's more to have your taxes done but WAY better than self employment tax. Something to think about anyway and/or checkout for your situation. I worked 10 years for myself... some of the best 10 years of my life... but my "boss" never let me take a day off. I asked my accountant about that and she was weird about it. Probably going to have to switch accountants and do that though. My company is set up as a LLC. Works out good, not double taxed.
  2. These are actually (2) tv mounts that worked great. The photo makes it look as if the speaker is tipping down, but it is not, it actually has a slight angle upward. The mounts are screwed into well supported doubled studs, it's very stable.
  3. Heres a pic of how I mount the center speaker.
  4. Thanks. The chopper was a project that I built in my basement over a 5 month period back in 2005. It was an awesome bike. Loud, long and low. It's somewhere in Texas now, sold it many years ago. Lol. That's how it got the nickname, from crashing on motorcycles. Many years back I raced superbikes. I can still ride wheelies though!!
  5. derrickdj1, btw, concerning rear subs placement, double stacked in the corner works great!
  6. I want to give my first impression of the sound system. WOW!! Holy Cr@p! I have not tested it with any music yet, just one movie, The Dark Knight. It gets very intense when the 4-18's come in, it actually flexes the basement windows and doors! In the middle of the room it registers 125db with the pre/pro volume set to 72 and +0 gain on the subs. During the movie when a gunshot fires, it is tactical, you feel this huge amount of bass punching you in the chest, i just love it. Can't wait to get some more movies to watch. Does anyone have a Dolby Atmos Demo disc that I could try? Thank you to all that have helped me with the guidance and opinions on this project!
  7. No furniture right now, just paid it all to the tax man.
  8. Thanks. Lots of fun making them. Used 10 gauge KnuKonceptz wire, very good quality products.
  9. I did the same with 5 pre-wired sub locations and I'm not using any of them, go figure. MB, for atmos, that looks like a 8 ft ceiling height? I would recommend that you pre-wire it for atmos now before sheetrock is done. It wouldn't take long at all and very inexpensive. You never know, you might want to add overhead later and then all you have to do is cut the speaker hole, attach speaker wire and mount. I did notice a water pipe in the picture that is under the ceiling joists, are you going to move it up out of the way? Would you have atmos speakers directly above seat position? Or two slightly in front, two slightly behind? Slightly angled off, both front and rear. I used this Dolby Atmos guide to place mine at 45 and 135 degrees.

  11. I believe I suffered a hernia today after moving the Emotivas from the pallet it was delivered on to the basement. I'm not as young as I use to be! LOL! Placed the XPA-7 Gen 2, UPA-700, iNuke-6000DSP, Marantz AV 7702 into the room today. Currently making custom cables, seems to take about 40 minutes per cable when working with 10 gauge spk wire. Received 3 of the 4 speaker grills for the subwoofers, the last one is MIA, but Richard at Speakerworks.com has another one coming. I hoping to fire it up this weekend and also work on the rear subs locations. Pictures to come soon...
  12. Those look really cool! Man, I want those and I haven't even heard my own stuff yet!
  13. I figured that would be the case. The reason I'm asking is that I will eventually have to cut large openings in the wall where the sound can come through. I could try and test them actually inside the room but I'm not sure if that will give the same result as being located behind the wall. Thanks.
  14. Thanks. Here's a couple of pics.
  15. I've had these darn stones, what a pain! My remedy was to drink at least 3 beers rather quickly and perform the "bump" method to use the liquid and gravity as a tool to force the stone to the bladder. Once it's in the bladder, it's not bad at all.
  16. Thanks and many thanks goes out to the good folks on here for the advice and direction. I'm very close, all the equipment has been delivered. Currently working on the subwoofers. Still have other speakers and amps, etc to install. Installed the LG 79" TV over the weekend. Can't wait to fire this system up!! Trying to determine the rear subwoofer locations. Please see the attached drawing. The front subs are installed. Note the subs are going to be firing through a wall. Here's a picture of the front wall with subs installed and grill covers off. Would like to ask for some opinions on that, thanks.
  17. Congrats on the new setup! Sure wish I could hear those. When you gonna move to Georgia?
  18. My wife would love that, but I'm a beer drinking guy myself. Lol!
  19. Yeah, not as fast as I hoped for, but it's very close. Still need to get the TV. Looking into the LG 79" 79UB9800 79-Inch 4K. Hopefully will have it next week. Once the last sub-contractor is finished, then I'll start speaker and components installation. I have installed the 24 port gigabit switch and tested all Cat6 hardwired connections.
  20. Just an update: Deadlines have come and gone. Been off the grid lately. So close to having the basement HT finished. Carpet was installed this week and granite guy came today to measure. Will install the audio once all contractors are out. All 4 speaker enclosures have been built for the 18's. Here's a pic of the room.
