Most of you are Missing The Point.

I have auto calibration. 

I can set up in an infinite numer of ways.

I choose to run my theater in a way that when running at

very loud levels, it sounds very good without running you

out of the room or reaching for the remote to turn it down.

I understand that movies have preset levels but they don't

do it for me because I don't live in a movie house.

 

My solution was to guys whose wives complain because the sound

gets too loud during movies.  If SPL gets too loud, it can take the

enjoyment out of watching for the other family members who are not

as rugged as you who can take the 100DB of special effects.

 

Personally, I think most movie houses suck when it comes to

SPL and I don't need hearing damage from going to a theater.

 

I just think most of you don't understand what the message is here.

I don't go to theaters anymore.

Some of you might like to bombarded with crowds

and overly loud movies but I don't.

I can fine turn my own private, little movie night at home.

As far as listening levels,

I'm much more likely to listen to a Music performance

or something like H. Potter at reference than I would

something like Transformers.

Of course I wouldn't watch Transformers, LOL.

I'd rather watch porn at reference levels, LOL.

Hey, If you're happy, these "fixes" are not for you.

OTOH- If you're catching hell from the wife for SPL being too loud,

my advice is worth a try.

Scrappydue, I run the exact same 3 F20's for the front sound stage.

The issue I'm taking about is the loudness of the mains when "the action starts".

The mixing of today's movies makes it loud when this happens that it makes

your family complain.  I find when I use my formula of boosting the center a

couple of DB above the rest of the system, movies are Much more enjoyable.

It's not that I cannot hear the center, it's that the sound effects are too loud

from the mix of today's engineer's.

This is where the rubber meets the road for HT. 

 

In my set up, I set my center levels louder than my main channels.

I know when sound effects happen, the mains are going to blast people

out of the room.  This can be avoided with sound level management.

 

 

Go ahead and put a favorite movie in, turn it up to "comfortable" listen levels

with movie sound effects going at full blast in the parts you are testing.

I said "comfortable",  that's the key word,  Then set your center channel,

the "dialouge channel" a little louder than the mains. 

The goal is to get a good sound level here from the center.

Then turn the master volume down a little and watch again.

Watch the video again with the settings and see if the dialogue channel

is comfy and when the mains kick in with sound effects they are at a much

more sane level without scaring the dog.

 

If you run the front 3 channels at the same volume, you're always

going to be reaching for the remote when the action starts.

I think it's great Klipsch sells less expensive speakers like the Synergy Series that I have.

Being disabled and on a fixed income, I cannot afford K-Horns or the larger, beautiful speakers

Klipsch has offered in the past.  I've heard them all and they are classic. 

 

When I bought my Synergy, I went to HH Greg where they stocked the Reference Series

but I could not even afford them.  I bought mine without the benefit of hearing them and

just reputation alone and knowing that buying Klipsch would probably be a good fit for me.

I prefer the sound of horns over other means of sound reproduction.

 

I bought my speakers online from Newegg because of the fantastic price.

I bought 3 for the price of one new retail.

 

This online buying does have an advantage to Klipsch as a company because

they did sell quite a few of them judging from the new reviews people posted

which puts Klipsch into people's homes and in itself is a great form of advertising

when their friends and neighbors come calling and get a listen to the buyer's

new speakers.

 

With Subs and smaller speakers available, selling larger full range speakers

can be a challenge.  Even in this forum, you'll find people using subs with large Klipsch

speakers.  I have a 12" Polk 505 sub and currently have it disconnected because it

really does Not add much to the sound of my F20's.  In fact, I find most powered subs

to be thumpy and distracting from what good sound should be. Even though I have an

entry level Klipsch, they dig pretty low and really don't need any help.  Young people

don't see it this way, they'll take a Bose cube with it's inferior sub box and not understand

or care about the difference, After all, they get most of their music from a phone or a

portable device where they get 5 to 10% of music that is available on a CD.

 

Most music, Listening Stores are a thing of the past.  Marketing has changed.

Companies have to change with the times or get left behind. I'm glad I was able

to buy Klipsch for my families enjoyment.  And they do enjoy them,  everyday.

Jim, I'm using Polk RTI 4's bookies for my surrounds.

We have a very small living room and the Polk perform the surround

duty pretty well but I have to turn them up because they're not as

efficient as the Klipsch.  But for the surround application they blend

together pretty well.

Hello to all you Klipsch forum members.

I decided to join because I own 3 Klipsch Speakers.

They're not as  "nice" as yours and my equipment in inferior.

I don't care, I have to buy what I can afford and I've been buying

audio stuff before most of you were born.  That makes me an Old Man.

 

I'm really enjoying my F-20 speakers and I use 3 of them across

the front of my HT. Yes, I use an F-20 for my center channel because

I wanted a big speaker for my center since it's the most important speaker

in a HT. It does give me a seamless soundstage with 3 matching speakers.

 

I'll be lurking around and reading post and might even comment from

time to time. 

 

Being a former Polk owner, you guys don't seem to be as rude and

snobby as the asshats on the Polk forum.  But time will tell, LOL.

 

I allready know that reference speakers and other lines are better

than my Synergy Speakers but this is what I use right now.

 

Heck,, I was probably listening to K-horns before most of you were born.

 

But we're living life and having fun.
