  1. Yes, the elbow grease is the key. So far, two coats looks really great. I wanted to get a good base and in the future use the Frombys Lemon Oil to freshen if need be. But this multiple coat process that Colter suggests sounds pretty good also. I may give it a try. THIN coats. Its soooooo easy to work with and the rags have not gotten stiff either. They look damn good.
  2. If anyone is looking to freshen up their Khorns or other speakers I can recommend this product. It puts a nice matte finish on the wood and really looks great with minimal effort, (Granted my khorns were in nice shape but just a bit "dull" looking) Sand with "0000" steel wool (with the grain) then use a tack cloth to get the dust off. ApplyWatco Rejuv Oil with a rag and rub in gently. It dries quickly and has a very slight odor. So far I've put 2 coats on. Each coat takes about 2 minutes to apply to each speaker. Well worth the 10 bucks!!!!
  3. Ok then. Get some pipe foam and listen. Easy enough. they do have the factory rubber on the rear corners already.........
  4. Just acquired a 1990 vintage set of khorns which have the AK-3 XOvers. How do I know theyre working optimally? They sound good and Ive done they "paper towel tube test" and the tweets are working fine as are the squawker and woofs. I see that the connections to the AK-3 are soldered. Ive obtained a multimeter recently also on the cheap. And same ? about the diaphrams? Is there anything in the squawker that will need replacing? washers or gaskets or anything? Like I said everything sounds fine to me.........
  5. "Best speakers ever made" has crossed my mind while enjoying the magical sounds emanating from them. Certainly the best speakers (and most expensive) that I've ever owned. Next I'm gonna treat em with some Formbys Lemon Oil and/or Watco Rejuvinating Oil to make em really "pop". Ive tried either on the rear of the top hats and they both make the walnut look sweeter......and I know about the oily rags
  6. Yes, I think so also. Thx. I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the sellers place and first saw them. He was a nice guy. I was the first caller and he let me have first right of refusal even tho he had many callers. He had one (caller) as we loaded the last bits into my family truckster. Lol. Got them into my place unscathed also.
  7. Ah, there it is. Good guys here. Kudos USNRET. Theyre presently playing DSOTM. In a few days Ill put them into my perfect corners where they shall live until I take a permanent dirt nap
  8. Im really not sure what I just did but there are some pics of my khorns in there somewhere gloriamarsh1's albums on Flickr.htm
  9. So my pics are too large to import.......so I uploaded them to flikr and resized them. Now how do I get them here?????
  10. as my 11 yr old daughter would say OMG. Lol. The speaker gods smiled on me today as I finally grabbed a minty,25 yr old, original owner, KB WO, consecutive s/n pair for a few ticks under 2K American. Cond 9/10..... Over hill and dale, I drove 370 miles round trip and now listening to the awesomeness of Steely Dan and Pink Floyd......
  11. Mods please close. Klipschorns obtained.
  12. Just found several 50 ft rolls of 12 ga copper wire at Radio Shack for $20 American each. Place is going outta business and they had alotta great deals. Even picked up a multimeter for 22.50 American.....half price Check out one near you
  13. Thanks klipschfan. The speakers asking price is what I consider fair market value, and at the top of my budget for khorns actually! Some sellers are nutty with their prices tho.....and as such I wouldn't persue them as my funzarelo.......lol
  14. I've never done something like this. I don't have an ohmmeter. Can I get one at the local home depot? radio shack just closed near me. And I conduct the test with music playing thru them correct? Don't flame the noob, pls.
  15. If I was gonna buy a 25 yr old pair of khorns from a stranger what would I need to check prior to handing over the cash? Of course I have to hear 'em..............but what else? How do I know the crossovers are working correctly? etc. etc. etc.
  16. I may have a line on a set..........fingers crossed.
