  1. Now I really want them! 😇
  2. I got lucky that somebody was selling a nice pair locally to me and as a fan of Roy Allison and AR speakers in general was thrilled to get these. Fantastic speakers they are.
  3. Got a couple new amps over the last couple of weeks. MC30's. Unfortunately, one day after receiving them the one on the left fritzed out so had to send it back to Audio Classics for repair. Should have it back hopefully in a few weeks, but until then having fun using the one on the right for mono recordings through my Cornwall's and a McIntosh C11 preamp Prior to getting the MC30's, picked up this MC240. Sounds great, had it playing through the Cornwalls but after I got the MC30's moved it into a second system where it drives Allison One speakers.
  4. Thanks for all the comments. Don't know if I'll get them this particular go around, but down the road I will certainly consider them as others become available.
  5. Not interested in a sub. I'm sure I won't need one with what I listen to.
  6. These rules would seem to indicate that the La Scala would work in this room.
  7. As some might know from earlier posts, I recently acquired a very nice pair of Cornwall I's which I very much enjoy. However I've been approached by a local acquaintance to see if I have any interest in a pair of LaScala's. I have a smaller second system in a smaller space that I suppose I could place the Cornwall's, where they could be placed in corners. Would this space accommodate LaScala's and is it something I should do if the cost is reasonable? Ultimately they would be powered by a pair of McIntosh MC30's.
  8. I apologize if my response was taken as curt. I perhaps took your comments as a bit condescending but then again you don't me and I don't know you. In any case, mine was not meant to be. Obviously the tubes in the 240 are correct, so if you were indicating issues with the sample MC30 picture, all you needed to do was specify that. You were a bit vague about what you were referring to.And again, my apologies for the confusion of the picture. I thought it was clear when I put it up that I hadn't yet received the amps ,but I probably could've done a better job as specifying that. Perhaps you were referring to the types of tubes, brands of tubes, etc., but it wasn't clear. I've been on forums like this for years, including this one, Audiokarma, Hoffman, Audio Asylum, etc, going back to almost the beginning of some of them. I have learned a lot, and taken and asked for tons of advice. Your advice is as valuable as anybody's, and I welcome it. And your help is greatly appreciated. So if you feel like clarifying, and expanding on your original comments I'm ready to listen.
  9. Messed with one last thing. MC30's are now coupled with the Cornwall's, and the 240 has been "relegated" to the second system. And still no rug😉
  10. Thanks. I had a rug in the room for years, and honestly without it there is no discernible audible difference that I can hear. Perhaps it's the curtains, furniture, books and records. Perhaps it's an all vintage tube rig. I don't know, but if it was the least bit bright/harsh and I felt of rug would help, I'd add it. But I love the bare floor, as my wife does, and from a sonic viewpoint there is no negative issue. A picture says one thing, what one actually hears when in the room says another.
  11. Thank you! Their old school design goes pretty well with this new to me piece now driving them
  12. The 727 is a lovely piece. Has it been updated? If not what you like about it with the Fortes might very well have to do with that. The 730 probably needs several more hours of breaking in with its restore as it is basically a new piece.I have never heard one that I thought at all harsh on any speaker I’ve owned. Have you considered an older tube piece? I don’t know you’re budget but something like a restored Fisher tube receiver(400 comes to mind) or similar would be an excellent match with the Fortes. But more expensive then what you’re looking at probably. But again that 727 is a really nice receiver and you might just stick with it.
  13. I only have the 240 so far, and the tubes are in the proper position. If you're referring to a picture I put up from a few days ago that was not mine but used just for descriptive purposes, you can ignore it. Mine which arrived today is just above on the table on the cutting board platform, and the tubes are properly placed. As for the rug, don't like them. Perfectly happy with the sound as is. Thanks.
  14. I have no idea what I was expecting but what I got is ridiculously good. And I have MC30's coming on Tuesday. Oh my.
  15. About to obtain a McIntosh MC240 and a pair of MC30's. Going to figure out what I like better with my new to me Cornwall 1's, then stick the other in a second system with a pair of Allison One speakers. Then try to find somebody to sell my not quite right Mc MC2300 to. That should take care of a week or so. The rest of the year? Hopefully just buy some more records and listen listen listen.
  16. Thanks again. Looking forward to hearing them together. And as I indicated earlier, expect to also have a pair of MC30's to compare with also, so times should be getting interesting over here the next week or so.
  17. I've gone completely mad and ordered a set of MC30's because I keep reading about how great they are. Figure I better just do my own comparisons with the Cornwall's, and then I'll decide what to keep. I may keep them both, and sell off some Mc solid state gear I have. Or sell nothing. Probably better long term investments these days then what I have in the stock market.
  18. Will be selling my MC2300 due to ongoing issues, so needed another amp, got a MC240 to use with my C11. Should be a nice combo when it arrives on Friday.
  19. Thanks! It’s not often I find great pieces locally anymore. But once in a while it happens. I’m very happy.
