  1. I like this thread. Pipe foam is something that I could easily do if needed. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/125090-talk-to-me-khorn-owners-do-you-have-bad-corners-or-closed-backs/ "There's really no bad corners for Khorn's because they always sound good. It's that some corners are better than others.... If you think you have bad corners you will hear bad corners !"šŸ˜
  2. Yeah I'm lucky I guess. I've never heard the Khorns in any room. But then again, I never heard the LS's before I got them. But according to a bunch of people, I could hear them be a lot better if I did _________________ (fill in the blank). Or better yet, get rid of them and get a decent pair of speakers. Lots of other things I could do to improve my current set up as well, according to lots of other people. I won't bore you with details. ""Half of the people can be part right all of the time Some of the people can be all right part of the time But all of the people canā€™t be all right all of the time I think Abraham Lincoln said that..."šŸ˜‰
  3. Can't get them tighter then how you see the LS's now. That's it. I'm not in the custom of moving speakers around much, if at all, once they are placed. As for moving my chair, it's a couch. I can slide it back and forth and to the sides some, and I can sit in different areas on it. I just don't think it will make much of a difference. Anyway, let me try them out(assuming they become available) and if that happens, I'll then report back. Like I indicated, I won't take them if they can't give me something that I like more then the LS's. It's not like I'll be sorry if there's no point and I'm left with the LS's.
  4. Good points, but the same could probably be said(and I think has in the past) for both the Cornwall's and LS's. Not to mention a lot of other gear I have, or have had. Either the room isn't big enough, or I have not done taken enough acoustic measures, or the turntable shouldn't be sitting on a glass cabinet, etc etc. This is not to dismiss these comments, nor yours, but rather again to remind that what might not suit others could, and in many cases over the years, has me. Which is is why the opportunity to try stuff out and not simply accept the experiences of others is how I try to approach things when it comes to introducing new gear. Nothing is perfect. But then again, I don't expect nor pursue perfection. I simply want gear that makes me happy. The Khorns would reside where the LS's are now. That is as close to corners as I can get them. If they sound good, if they sound better to my ears then the LS's do now, then I'm pretty sure I will take them because the idea of owning them frankly thrills me. So my litmus test is easy. Everything could be better. According to a lot of folks I should not be using the LS's completely stock. The caps should be changed out, at the very least. A lot of folks can't believe I, or anybody else for that matter, even LIKES LS's. Or Klipsch speakers in general. A lot of folks couldn't understand my passion for legacy AR speakers either. Again, all ok for others to have this opinion, but at the end of the day it will come down to my own enjoyment. That said, I appreciate yours, and everybody else's opinion. If I didn't, I wouldn't start these threads to begin with.
  5. No rabbit hole really. Not going to go out of my way to get Khorns. I might(operative word at the moment) have an opportunity to at least try them. As for placement, I was told that the LS's were more difficult then the Cornwall's to place, but that hasn't been my experience. I've watched some videos and seen some pictures of Khorns in rooms that I consider not as potentially adequate as my space is that seem to do just fine with them anyway. As you can see from my last picture, there would seem to be a good area for them where the LS"s are now. Bigger, sure, but more or less the same area. As I indicated my room is what it is, and either they'll come together enough for my enjoyment or they won't All of my speakers have had to deal with the windows and curtains behind them, and it's never been an issue for my listening needs. Neither has the wood floor, nor any other issue that might be problematic for others. Does it sound good to my ears or not? That's all that's important.
  6. I did and as far as I can tell they are not magnetic. I don't have a magnet, per se, but I do have magnetic screwdrivers and they did not stick to them, so I'm assuming they are not magnetic.
  7. Won't even know for another week if I'll have the opportunity but ever since my good fortune with the LS's I've started to fantasize a bit about KH's. I've moved a couple things around today to give the LS's even more breathing room, and I think that there's enough space to at least give the KH's a try before making a decision. And yes, no matter what happens the LS's will be staying. I have yet to own any speaker that I've enjoyed more, and because of your wonderful advice re: the diodes they have become even more then they were when I first got them. They are perfect in every way and therefore the KH's would have to be even better for me to replace the LS's with them in the main system.
  8. I'm coming back to this because a local dealer friend of mine, who I trade with quite a bit and who supplied me with my Cornwalls now informs me that he may be coming into a beautiful pair of Khorns soon. I can't help but be interested so I took some measurements today and found out that they would have about 13 feet give or take separation in their respective corners. I sit about 12-14 feet away, depending on how far back I slide my couch. My ceilings are about 8 feet. So while the dimensions are perhaps not as optimum as could be, and larger would be better, I still think that they might work. The footprint is not that different then the LS's. The advantage of course of even considering these is because they would be local and through a friend, so I could easily try them out before committing. I have to think with how successful the LS's have been that I would love the Khorns. In fact, I like the LS's so much, that I would probably end up using the Cornwalls, now in my second system, as part of a trade for the Khorns and keep the LS's for the second system. I can only imagine how great Khorns would sound with my MC30's. As things evolve I'll be back
  9. Soon I might have to change the title of this thread to "Khorns for this room"...
  10. I have a different take on the M44 and consider it a wonderful cart particularly for that table. Originally designed as a broadcast cartridge for radio djā€™s it offered several different stylus options and was interchangeable with the M55. Of course like all the Shure line they are not made anymore but some very good aftermarket options are still available.
  11. Cool how captainbeefheart's posting of his test results on this little mod on the Technical/Modifications forum has taken on a life of it's own. I wonder how many folks who have contributed to that thread that is mostly way over my head have actually tried this simple little trick? Enjoying my LS's more then ever. Listened to a recorded concert of the Boston Symphony Orchestra last night and it was quite breathtaking on these speakers.
  12. Yes but the distortion is occurring at fairly low levels to begin with. Taking out the diode solves that.
  13. Maybe they were but figured the owners wouldn't be and to protect the influx of blown tweeters this was the easiest and most inexpensive remedy?
  14. Ah my error. I assumed indoor/outdoor covered all speakers. Evidently in 2020 they changed from 5 to 10 years on the Heritage line.
  15. Doesn't look like they have shortened it. https://www.klipsch.com/warranty-indoor-outdoor-speakers
  16. That's great! Thanks very much for doing the work.
  17. I'm guessing(and it's purely a guess backed with what little I've read on the situation)with all due respect to PWK and his company, that the decision to employ protection had everything to do with the bottom line and little to do with worrying what his customer base would hear. Especially that segment that were playing stuff so loud that the tweeters were disintegrating. I would've been perfectly happy with these speakers if I never learned about the effect of the diodes. But now I've been spoiled.
  18. I donā€™t solder so assuming itā€™s required to add fuses Iā€™ll just accept the risk of no protection. Im quite sure as I indicated earlier that unless there is some sort of catastrophic failure with a piece of gear the tweeters will be fine. No teenagers left in my house.
  19. As I indicated earlier my understanding is PWK ordered the protection when bigger solid state amps became the norm and tweeters, under full lifetime replacement warranty weā€™re getting blown with alarming regularity and becoming a drain on profits. Unfortunately it is said that this protection was developed rapidly at the expense of the quality of performance. It was only when the alnico tweeter got replaced with the more durable ceramic version in the late 70ā€™s I believe it was that this diode protection could be eliminated which is why later models like the ā€˜85 mentioned above is without it. Obviously there is a small amount of risk removing the protection so ultimately itā€™s a personal decision but itā€™s such an easy reversible experiment that I would urge anyone with a AA crossover to give it a try and listen conservatively for at least a short time. I think youā€™ll be surprised.
  20. Unfortunately as weā€™ve been discussing all day those diodes are doing things that they shouldnā€™t while most likely not really needed in pretty much all instances unless an overzealous use of gain is employed. Everything Iā€™ve read over the last few days has provided much anecdotal evidence that there has been no failures of tweeters in these speakers caused by removing the diodes. Obviously if the speakers are being used as part of a powerful surround sound rig it is probably just as well leaving the diodes alone but as the main speakers in a 2 channel set up with quality amplification and judicial use of gain I would argue that the positives far outweigh any possible negatives.
  21. I have to wonder how many folks have tried all kinds of things to tame AA crossover LS's, from homemade remedy's to spending in some cases hundreds of dollars, or more, and yet have never tried this one simple little tweak? I bet it's a lot.
