  1. There are a HUGE amount of technical upgrades in the Reference Premier line. They are more similar to the Reference line than the Icon line. I have to go to work so no time to comment in more detail, but somewhere there is a thread that answers in detail the question you ask. I'm sure others will weigh in as well, but the new RP's are getting rave reviews. I'm sure that the RP line has numerous upgrades in comparison to the Icon line. However, I was referring to the new "Reference" line they sell at Best Buy...also known by some as the "rebadged" Icons.
  2. I was wondering what the difference was between these Reference speakers and the Icons...besides the looks. However, I don't see a difference with the LTS tweeter in comparison with the previous Icon it replaces? What's so new about it? Both look the same. Also, with the woofer design, is the "Spun Copper" really copper or just copper coloring? Any other mechanical differences?
  3. Thank you very much for clarifying that for me WMcD . I was thinking maybe it wasn't wired correctly, or since these are Klipsch's entry-level maybe they cut corners when they wired these up or some thing else of similar cost-cutting methods. But, Klipsch did right by the xover wiring . Thank you to everyone else who chimed in as well .
  4. Hi all. Just out of curiousity, I wanted to see what kind of readings I would get if I removed the jumpers and measured each set of binding posts on the r-26fs. With the jumpers in place I got around 4ohms. With the jumpers removed, I still got 4 ohms for the bottom binding posts, but no reading at all from the top set? What does that mean?
  5. I own the R-25C and it has no problem keeping up with the R-26Fs ( which is the model below your R-28Fs), so it should have no problem keeping up with your 28's . Plus, it's timbre-matched, like mentioned earlier in this thread. It can handle more than you think Hope this helps some...
  6. Interesting, I figured a quality amp would actually bring out the better in speakers? It's all about the synergy between the gear and speakers I guess +1 on that Derrickdj1. This new "Reference" line may not be as good as its big brothers in certain ways, but that doesn't mean they don't perform well...which they do. I've only had the R-26s for a couple of weeks now, and they "do so many things right " as Chris put it . They're not even broke-in yet. Speaking of that Chris, another possibility in your situation could be that your R-26s are fully broken-in yet ( even though they were pre-owned ). Also, your listening space can impact your sound too...which you probably already know lol. Sorry for sounding redundant.
  7. I believe it's the 1/2 off BF sale "bang for your buck" that makes them appealing. At 350/pair, it's kinda hard not to like them
  8. Hi Chris. I'm kinda a newbie myself here, but I also have the R-26F towers as well. These are more "forward" sounding, and since your used to "laid back" these can sound a bit fatiguing. Sometimes the "brightness" of the sound can be associated with the gear. What gear are you running? Yamaha and Onkyo tend to be on the brighter sounding side. Denon and Marantz are more warmer sounding. I'm running mine with a Sony AVR which I find to be more "neutral" sounding. Positioning can have an effect as well. As far as the more pronounced vinyl surface noise, it could be that these are more revealing speakers than what your used to. I know I hear more detail with these than with my previous speakers. I've also been experimenting with how I wire them up to. I found that if you diagonal wire them (meaning use to + of the HF binding post and the - of the LF binding post) it seemed to balance out the overall tonal characteristics...less "fatiguing" if I may say so. Google "diagonal wiring speakers" if my explanation wasn't clear. Anyway, I hope this helps a little . Welcome to the Forum
  9. I remember when I first started joining forums. I had no clue how anything really worked. Other forums people were rude when I would start new threads. Tell me to research and use the search first. I would find a thread, ask a question it, then get yelled at for bumping a five year old thread. I was like, " Uhhh I don't get it?" What did they want me to do. So I just started doing as I pleased. And eventually pretty much only post here now lol. You will rarely see me post on other forums. Unless it's in a for sale thread and I wanna buy something We're still rude to you on this forum. Good to know
  10. Not really lol. I was just seeing what came up when I did a search for the R-26Fs. Compared to most, I'm also kinda a "newbie" to klipsch. As an owner of the budget Reference series, IMO they are very good . I wouldn't pay the full price for them, but for the once a year Black Friday 1/2 off sale they are hard to beat.
  11. Hi there. I can chime in on the r26f's. For the 1/2 off sale, they're a good/great deal. They should provide enough volume for your 20x20 space. Of course there are better options, but for the budget-limited crowd, IMO these are one way to go .
  12. Came across these when searching CL for speaker systems for a friend of mine. Along with these is the matching center and surrounds. Not familiar with this series. They were rarely used and look in mint condition. Asking price is 350 for the whole set. Anyone have experience or other thoughts? Suggestions maybe??
  13. I chose to pick up the R-26F's to see how they would sound in my listening space. Worse comes to worse I can always return them. The most noticable difference was the bass...I can definitely listen to music w/o my sub . The highs were similar to my R-15M's, but the overall tonal balance was better. That slighty bright sound I heard at BB became "sweet" in my space. Imaging was a lot better since I can position them better . Home auditioning IS the best route to test speakers. So far, I find the R-26F's to be a well-balanced, clean-sounding speaker...worth the 1/2 off BF sale. Next step, maybe use my R-15M as rears? see how movies sound ...
  14. I went and gave a short listen to the r-26fs this afternoon while doing some of my xmas shopping. To me, they have a clean, slightly bright sound to them. Of course, BB is not the ideal listening space ( especially for bass tones ), but even so the bass was clean and tight. Imaging wasn't bad considering thier poor placement. Overall they were pleasant to listen to despite the less than ideal conditions. I wouldn't pay the full price for them though ( especially when the Reference Premieres aren't much more pricewise ), but for the Black Friday 1/2 off price IMO they are a good deal
  15. Really? I'm thinking they sounded harsh due the listening environment. My R-15Ms aren't harsh at all..just clean, clear and vivid .
  16. I was looking at he same ad. I was looking to upgrade my R-15Ms to the R-26F towers. Anyone here have those or have heard them??
  17. Here are some pics of where my center is placed. If anyone has suggestions of alternative positioning and/or placment feel free to chime in . Thanks
  18. Thanks again for the input y'all. For my L and R I toed them in to face my MLP...this yielded the best overall soundstage and imaging. As for my center, I found that aiming it DIRECTLY at my eyes/ears pulled it more off the screen, so I "un"angled it and postioned it literally within an inch directly below the TV..zero tilt. This created the best center imaging. Ill post some pics when I can to show were the center is. On another note, I see that the rated sensitivity for my bookies and center is 96db for bookies and 98db for the center. Having owned the AJ Pios which are rated at 85db for bookies and 88db for center, these klipschs dont seem THAT much more louder. Could the Klipschs sensitivity rated be inflated? Anyone here know how klipsch measrures the sensitivity of their speakers? Does the method differ from each series? Maybe these need more time to break-in?
  19. I tried aiming the center channel up so it focuses the sound more towards my head than my torso, but in doing so it seemed to "pull" voices down from the TV to the speaker..drawing attention to itself. Right now its postioned so that the front face of the center is about 2-3 inches shy of being flush with the front of the TV. Would pulling the center so its more in front help any?
  20. Thanks guys. I've aimed my L and R at my listening position, and that brings me the best imaging with these speakers...not much different positioning than my previous setup. Now, as far as the center speaker is concerned, its positioned right below my TV.. Literally an inch or two from the bottom of the TV. Would it be necessary to aim it upwards or not? In relation to my mains, the height positioning of my center is just below the mains. Any suggestions??
  21. I like Twister LOL...hokey pokey too . Sounds like toe-in is "in". I had my previous speakers toed in to where they intersected about a foot in front of me...I'll give that a shot.
  22. Having never owned speakers with horn-loaded drivers before, would toeing them in improve the imaging? I know with traditional speakers ( at least the ones that I have owned ) doing so improved the imaging. Does anyone here toe-in? Sorry for being an amatuer...
  23. The 100hz xover works well with these ...especially if you run dual subs.
  24. 15 minutes? Wow. I think I certainly surpassed that lol. Like you said, it varys. Thanks.
  25. Thanks for the advice garyrc. I'll try the 100hz xover once I'm done with the break-in process. Speaking of which, you or anyone else know what the break-in period for these klipsch speakers are?..if there is one?
