  2. The difference should only be in the fact that the RS-3's woofer does not have the magnetic cup on the magnet.  I'm verifying this now, but the K-1086 should work...

ETA...not sure of the difference...Klipsch had 3 speakers with 6.5" woofers of that variety: the K-1081, the 1085, and the 1086.  The 1081's were in the RB-3's, the 85's were in the RC-3, and the 86 in the RS-3.  I can't honestly imagine that they're different though.  You might call Klipsch directly and ask, or call Speaker Exchange and ask.

Here's the specs for the RC-3 II direct from Klipsch:

    FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 62Hz-20kHz±3dB

    SENSITIVITY: 97dB @ 1watt/1meter

POWER HANDLING: 150 watts maximum continuous (400 watts peak)

    NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: 8 ohms

TWEETER: K-105-KV 1" (2.54cm) Titanium dome compression driver

    HIGH FREQUENCY HORN: 6" square 90° x 60° Tractrix[emoji768] Horn

    HF CROSSOVER: 2100Hz

    WOOFER: Two K-1085-SV 6.5" (16.51cm) Cerametallic[emoji768] cone / cast polymer frame

Thanks. Definitely gonna call when ever I get a chance.

  3. So who got the cash?  You made $150 selling them to the bro-in-law.

If the CL buyer paid $500, someone must have profited at least $300, probably the bro-in-law.  Or did you guys split things?

In any case, good initial pick-up by you to recognize the $50 KG4's as a deal.

He kept the money. He needed more than me. I regret selling them because I could of found ways to make them sound better. Also, it was a great deal to begin with. Oh well [emoji53]hopefully I'll run into a pair down the road.

  4. Shorted speaker cable?  Equipment can get damaged.  I had a similar problem using a Yamaha receiver.  After finding the short in the ceiling my Sub ended up damaged and the short was in one of the surround speaker wires, no explanation there? Good luck finding a fix

I found the issue. It was the left woofer in speaker.

  5. No shame in passing along a good deal.  Honestly the heresy i were too britht for me.  I hve a pair of

Rb-35 in the same listening position and am enjoying them more even though i know they are not as nice of a speaker.  Then again a $200 vs $550 speaker may be easing my mind too.

Funny how they all sound different. There's plenty of choice out there. Just gotta try them.

  6. This happened around the time when I was barely getting into music or buying equipment; I found a really nice pair of Heresy's I can't remember if it was the one's or two's. I got them for $125 [emoji108]. Guy obviously didn't know much, so I took advantage of situation. Well I was kinda disappointed, they were way too bright. Keep in mind I didn't know much then. So I just put them aside. Got a pair of kg 4's for $50. Well I ended up selling them to my bro in law for $200( I had already listed them on Craigslist [emoji57]). Well my in law took them and had them for a few days, then someone called me to see if I still had them. I had the price at $600. This guy was from philly bout 1.5 hours from me. He said he was visiting a friend close by and he was interested. So I called in law and told him. We ended up meeting half way. Well when we were there I told him it was $500( believe it or not I had forgotten I had asked $600 online) that explained his shocked confused look when he asked $500? Lol. Anyways I regret the whole situation. Only if I could turn back time.

  7. I'm not very familiar with other receivers besides Yahama. I personally like the Dolby "PLiix Music" dsp. Its very focused on the center stage. Sometimes I do 2-channel too or pure Direct. Depends on mood or music. For movies I like the new modes DTS-X(Neural Mode) or Dolby Atmos. I also like the spectacle dsp by Yamaha.

I'm not sure what's going on with your receiver not playing all channels at the same time. Very weird. I agree, that you should look at Manual really close. I know mine by memory since I read it over and over. You really should read it to get the best performance out of your equipment. You'd be surprise what you learn even after months of having your gear.

  8. Seems like there's not many places where they can repair speakers. Specially around here. Could use some advice. Rc-3 ii needs a look. I'm located in 19947. Speaker plays and sounds good at very low volume. If cranked up it shuts down receiver and display says check speaker cables. I already did and everything looks good, to me at least.

  9. I have cd's that sound spectacular and cd's that sound like shyte... same with sacds and downloaded files and vinyl records.

While its important to have equipment that can play at full bloom, just because a file is 96/24 does not mean its of better reproduction than a 44kHz... like I said, your hearing only goes to

Very true. I've noticed that. Like someone said "A bad recording in HD is still a bad recording"

  10. Well, I wouldn't call it a lower end amp.  It's probably just fine when operated within it's limits, but it is modestly powered to begin with, and probably current limited into low impedance when bridged.  Bridged amps can run hot too.  I generally avoid bridging, except for maybe bomb-proof pro amps driving subs.

I think your right. Lesson learned.

  11. Bridged amp channels may not like the load presented, as they'll "see" it as half.  It could be the AVR produces more than adequate power into the load, while the bridged Adcom channels can't.  And Yamaha kit is pretty nice, with pretty respectable amp sections.  Either way, it seems you've found a workable solution, so it's time to start crankin some tunes.

I think your right. I tested the adcom at high volumes and it introduced distortion in one of the main bridged channels. Not so much in the receiver. It handled high volumes pretty good to the point of discomfort. So maybe it's just a lower end Amp.

  12. I have the matching CD player hooked up with stereo RCAs and my Chromecast Audio with 3.5mm to RCA adapter.  I am currently looking for an affordable DAC to go between the Chromecast Audio and the Yamaha.

    Bill

I'm assuming since they have built in dacs it doesn't matter if you use analog. The Dac takes care of the sounds.

So the A-S1000 doesn't have built on Dac? Why would you need one to go between it and the chrome cast?

  13. 96/24 is only as good as the master otherwise you are merely listening to a bigger file... not better reproduction.

as far as what to listen to... for me it's a majority of disc's, sacd/dvd-a/cd/hdcd/vinyl (no record player currently). Ive been fairly unhappy with downloaded files... but that is probably due to the interface rather than the file.

They recommend a Dac that can play the file in its full form. It sounds pretty good to me now. I might get one down the road no rush. Tidal is the only app I use since it's quality is very noticeable compared to all the other apps. They sound muddy in comparison.

  14. I was wondering what you older guys:) use to listen to music. Maybe I might learn something new. Which seems to be the case round here. I use An older yahama CD player. I don't use it as much as I'd like too. Since I have Tidal which is Hi Res streaming. Which streams at cd quality. Now with its master quality you can listen up to 96khz 24 bit. There's not much of a selection for me though. Mostly older music I've never even heard of. There is a few good ones like Coldplay, flo rida and my favorite Ed Sheehan's new cd. Tidal allows the MacBook to by pass its Dac. So the receiver's Dac does the work. I use an optical cable 345d052f9cf45e0a66c77c508551e05d.jpgfac6f5d127c4f627e0eaeb4ca2bc0335.jpgwith adapter to mac-->receiver. I do prefer the quality of the CD player for normal listening. But for the master quality, Tidal sounds very full and clean.

  15. It does but the OP seems more concerned about the power handling of the 82II's.  With that said, the A-S801 is a nice integrated that has plenty of gusto for the 82II's and one heck of a well designed loudness contour feature.  I really don't think he can go wrong with this Yamaha choice.

    Bill

True. I've been looking into one of these Yamaha's myself. Budget is around the A-S701 but I want the A-S1000. I've noticed after the 701 they have digital hook ups. What do you use on yours?

  16. I purchased the adcom amp to take some heat off my receiver. I was using It it mono mode to power my mains at 180w per channel and a pair of surrounds. Something was missing specially in music. So when my brother in law came over we did a few sound test. I did the test in 2 channels with RP 280's. I noticed with the adcom powering them in mono they sounded the worse. Almost as if a speaker was missing. I also tried it in stereo mode with the adcom powering them and they sounded slightly better. Finally I tried them straight to the receiver(110w/channel) and They came alive. The sound stage was there. They sounded full and and dynamic. So I'm a little disappointed. The was the main reason I purchased it, to power my mains. So now I'm using it for my surrounds and surround backs. So I wanted to know if anyone could recommend a good amp to use for my mains. Something tried and true. Something not to crazy expensive. I listen to music a lot and watch movies a lot too. I don't want to have to set ups due to space. So I'm trying to make it work. I'm pleased with the yammy powering them but I'd rather take some load off of it. Since I listen to music quite a bit and loud. I don't use 2 channel much. I use Dolby music dsp which I really like. bd49e2a6277937db51bad1d01c3b1d95.jpg
