  1. it's good to see you stepping outside your 'box' per se and taking on this DIY project Derrick.  Thanks for all of the updates, w/pics.   Can't wait to see how this thing compares to yer previous sub.

  2. I'd probably let it chuff away for now and reuse the amp on another project once the driver gives it up in the current box though

Yeah, not too worried about it.  It sounds great for music.  I just turn it down a bit for movies to keep the chuffing down.  Thanks for the knowledge.

  3. very good explanation CECAA850.  Thank you.  I didn't think that Klipsch would have released a sub that sounded like this.

Fortunately, I haven't heard any clacking at all.  The excursion doesn't look to be too much either, apparently it doesn't take much to move a lot of air.

  4.

If it started with the new amp then it's pushing the driver harder than the stock amp.

I wouldn't know, the amp was blown when I got it.

The sub is ported out of the front top, as may recall

the port exits the enclosure through the bottom front, below the forward facing driver.  It is a large oval at the exit, reducing port diameter as it extends diagonally up into the enclosure.

I watched another movie last night at moderate volume levels and it makes the sound pretty consistently across lower frequencies.  It really seems to be a fluttering sound the air is making as it squeezes through the narrower port opening inside the box.

  5. I ran Audessy and got it all setup. Then the wifey and I sat and watched the movie Lucy.  She actually enjoyed having the sub running.  I kept it loud enough throughout the movie that she actually stayed awake for the whole thing, which is rare.

One thing I did notice with this sub though, The port is very noisey at some frequencies when it is turned up.  It produces a very audible "whooshing" noise through it.

  6. That thing is sweet lookin' Max, great job!

My first motorcycle was a 3 wheeler.  Pops bought a new 200x and a 200m for the family back in '84.  I have so many great memories spending vacations riding in places like Pismo Beach.  Yeah, the things were dangerous, I had my share of wrecks, but I could ride ANYTHING after learning on those death traps.  B)
