    ATMOS installed 4 CDT-5800 C II
  4. Got the main audio gear in place and figured I'd do a little progress thread on it. Installed the 4 5800-C II's in the ceiling this week and it was a big, messy job to say the least! Strapped into beams now, still deciding on final mounting with ceiling sound panel project. They are all 6' and inches to the MLP and angled all in there as well. Research to do still on this. Installed the R-5800-W II panels 7-8' from MLP let all at no attenuation, nice clean, love the magnetic grills on the 5800 series top and sides! Temporarily mounted the RS-7's at 12' from MLP. This whole wall gets a rework and how to do with these horns not reflecting off shelves is the challenge to design around. (pulled down 7 trash cans full of log slices...errr creative absorption left by previous artistic owner!) Here's the 2nd R-115SW. sounds pretty good but really need a home for it. Ideas to put on back wall, sink behind back wall or possibly into wall it's next to now but best not to couple so close to the original 115SW that is behind the sectional under the stairs. Balance sound and cosmetics is the struggle for it. For now... Watching a few ATMOS videos on Youtube, Mad Max and San Andreas getting levels tweaked still. So far I am very pleased but I know it's got a ways to go before it's done. Sheetrock, hiding cables, diffusing and absorption coming up next. Thanks to all whose advice on here for answering my novice and helping to point in the right direction!

    What I Got Today!

Brown jacket Santa showed up with some overhead ATMOS goodness today. Now to get the saws out, they seem bigger in person than in my mind they'd be..
  6. I spent quite a bit of time researching and decided on the units in my signature below. I'll be installing these shortly and share feedback as well.
  7. Depends on how long I can deal with the issues on the gaming systems. May look for a used OPPO if can find a good deal and sell after better stuff comes along.
  8. Then that's the plan. Wonder which manufacturers will be ready for the holiday. Thanks Sancho & MLO
  9. It looks like the justification for the 105D would be a very high end analog system or headphone amplification. As I plan to be full HDMI I think the 103D probably does the trick. Still looking at the Cambridge 752... Great feedback, duly appreciated.
  10. Thanks Bill. Looking at the Cambridge 752 vs. the Oppo 105. Looks like the Cambridge misses Netflix but most reviews I can find online say it may be slightly better SQ than the Oppo. I could always leave one of the game systems to do the Netflix but not sure that the upscaling will do the job as cleanly as built in.
  11. Getting frustrated with the XBOX ONE as a blu-ray player. Only seems to play 50% of the ATMOS discs and 90% of regular blu-rays. Swapped in the old Sony PS3 which plays everything fine but is just noisy and runs hot mid movie. Any suggestions on a nice quality unit. (I did like that the XBOX unit could be set up to turn on everything with one button)
  12. Just got a small selection of ATMOS movies in today, hopefully will be hearing properly soon.
  13. I have the RS and RC7's and very pleased with them and yes, that's a great deal. I'd grab them, can always tone down the towers if you must and upgrade when able. Just my .02!
  14. Absolutely agree ^. On top of that our ears don't hear the same. I believe the calibration is just a start point. I've been tweaking and adjusting for a month since getting my Klipsch. It's finally good on most every movie. Now I'm changing it a bit, will be more adjusting from then too.
  15. I'm thinking to complete the surround and ATMOS sounds with the following. I like the horns on the RF7's (after dampening with some Dynamat from the mobile projects) and thinking about just using the wall mount 5800's for overhead ATMOS drivers. Any pros or cons? I have 6" wood planks on the floor above them so will need to build enclosures, dampening etc for sure to avoid buzzing. Otherwise to do more traditional round speakers, here's my short list. (2) R5800wII (4) CDT5800C II (1) R115SW (to add to the one in place now) Anything to input, please feel free.
  16. I have Pandora ONE for several years. Changed to iHeart radio for sound quality reasons and now am using Spotify, great SQ and ability to go to any song, any album never had it say too many skips for the day, at least yet. Works very well in car, home (on Onkyo and Klipsch and SONOS systems)
  17. You're starting to sound like the guys you make fun of who say bigger more efficient speakers needs a more powerful amp. As long as you cross them over at the same frequency, I don't see why RF-7ii's wouldn't be easier to drive than inefficient surrounds. The problem is that once you have them, you're probably going to want to cross them over lower and play them louder. Lol, I don't believe one can have too much clean power. Control, dampening in addition to volume, little things Funny, but as it seems to my ear I did experimenting with running the towers full range (lol, thanks Scrappy! gotta test the limits I suppose) tonight. The auto set-up on the Onkyo had them at 40z,; which was fine and clear as loud as I cared to try it (80 on their volume scale) Books, and curios started vibrating off their shelves... time to move the shelves was my opinion. I'm testing them at full range now watching the new Mad Max movie, so far good and maybe as I just have the one sub, these can help that bass image stabilization. Thoughts? 50hz seems to be the magic number for the RF7's. I know there's some subwoofer processing that changes with the front L/R going full range though I can't seem to easily bypass it. Nonetheless 50hz XO works well. Moving along, bigger fish to fry as they say. Thanks for the tips.
  18. Great points and info. I'll need one set of side plates to match the overhead choice. Getting close to decision time.
  19. Great build! I have the Onkyo TXNR3030 and so far very happy with it but looking at the ceiling speakers now. Like to hear your thoughts on those, I'm thinking of the 5800's most now, curious how these 6.5"'s do as well. Easier fitment obviously.
  20. I think I bumped myself to the 5800's, pick up 3db sensitivity, but studying the passive XO on them.... While I'm doing sheetrock work and running cable, the 2nd SW115 will go in. Wonder if anyone will notice the guest bedroom closet will be just a little narrower? lol The 7502's are double the power. Don't know that there is that much energy on the overhead channels. Thoughts Nismo?
  21. OK.... some here think I'm crazy & I am (in all things. lol). But I gotta ask. How was the opening sequence of MAD MAX for you with Atmos? Still no ceiling speakers yet! lol, I research sometimes too much. Very glad I got this disc though, sounds amazing and 75% of the movie is crazy desert chases and explosions, what's not to enjoy?
  22. Thanks again Scrappy. I got a SurgeX SX1115 for next to free 8+1 outlet, 15A that should do the duty well it appears.
