  1. lol very creative nothing wrong mounting it upside down HOWEVER those are foot adjustment screw holes....up front tilts it up....back one tilts it down usually the center is tilted to point directly at ears sitting flat but hey that works should be fine as you did it....creative ☺
  2. external amp with pre pro or an avr is better...but im not an expert on what to get
  3. 5 channels wont cover the 7 you have! From denon the x4000 and x3300 i think are great deals but by no means the only options. If u get an audyssey enabled receiver make sure it has xt32 (imo).
  4. cool u seem to know bldg and crafting but just a reminder soundproofing is trying to prevent neighbors from hearing....acoustic treatment is for improving in room sound. soundproofing can be difficult and expensive make sure they address how the would handle bass tones as it is very hard to do. man your setup is going to kick azz
  5. DEQ is a feature on many avrs u need to check to see which have it. my denon has it....all speakers use deq in that setup my sony does not. i have a external amp with dsp for my subs there which let me create my own deq in the amp for the subs! i cannot create a deq for surrounds though they are using the avr i love deq personally. i beieve yamaha has it too
  6. Reference is a theater standard originally created by Lucas and the THX team. 105db peaks and 85db white noise matched levels to each channel 115db peak for lfe at home calibration is 75db for reference with 30db or 105db peaks 115db for lfe most avrs count down from reference 0 is reference -20 is 20db below reference DEQ engages to add higher output to bass and surrounds at volumes below reference as volume gets lower more bass and surrounds are added to mimic the distribution of sound you would hear at reference at low volume without deq u may not hear much bass or surrounds. using sophisticated algorithms the mfgs have created dynamic eq to adjust so any volume sounds good not just reference which is often too loud
  7. how about a front stage pic! r the surrounds what u hoped for?
  8. did u fix and paint the wall or cover w posters? either way looks great! buy gravity blu ray on amazon its under 10bucks usually
  9. perfect! google audyssey dynamic eq for a good explanation. in short at volumes below reference we hear sound differently than at reference. bass tends to be too low and surrounds can be hard to hear. DEQ is a solution that maps how we hear and augments the bass and surrounds as needed to sound "right." nothing makes surrounds sound better at say -30 volume.
  10. I have found the transformer movies to have great surround. twister excellent still gravity is the ultimate test. top gun has many goodflybys part of dynamic eq boosts the surrounds at lower volumes. since u rarily listen that loud i was suggesting bumping up the surrounds a db or 2 and seeing if it sounds bette
  11. At less than reference volume some sound is a bit skewed. Audyssey, found on some receivers has a dynamic eq that boosts not just bass at lower volumes but the surrounds too. This deq feature is not unique to just Audyssey. I find it makes a big diff personally and love it fyi. If your avr does not have this you may want to boost your surrounds a db or 2 to compensate. I'm curious how the surround sweep sounds now?
  12. Yeah the signal from the avr is a bit weak for the auto on but the ipad seems to be sending a stronger signal.
  13. Ok I admit I overlooked that you got the real surrounds and dumped the cutouts! How do they sound so far? Onwall will increase bass and midbass. ☺
  14. They are completely and totally awesome on the wall. Klipsch knows their sxxx and builds the best surrounds Ive heard. This version is sealed and that means no ports. There is a keyhole mount on the back. This allows them to hang off a proper mount. Theres many versions but I used a snap toggle. 3/8" size they are rated for 200lbs+. Mine have never come off and have been bumped plenty. Installation requires a 1/4" drill bit and hole then you slide the snap toggle in, snap it off and screw it in. 5 min max per hole really about 2min. Amazon.com.
  15. By angles i mean the diagram showing how to layout the speaker positions. Angling them towards the position is not critical with the bipolars but where to place them is so guesstimate based on your room and layout and the 7.1 diagram
  16. to add to jasons....age is a factor rsws are old even in good shape get an rsw if u want the historically coolest consumer sub get the thx if you want the better performer both are good but the rsw is old
  17. i agree my suggestion was try the sub at a friends...if problems persist its the sub
  18. backs might need to be closer you should guesstimate the angles try them all maybe another 10inches higher above ear level.
  19. JA so well said, thank you very much for that excellently written comment The OP mentioned car subs and also a friends house that is calibrated where the subs muffle everything else To illustrate the opposite of these situations, I'll use my upstairs theater as an example -- front subs are behind the tv, about 10 feet from the MLP. the back subs are 30 feet back from that front wall. Yet, you can sit almost anywhere in the room and you will never know where the subs are. They sound best at the MLP, but very good everywhere. Unless someone was looking, they wouldn't know there are subs. And they shouldn't. You can sit at the back right in front of the back subs and unless you are about 1 foot away, you cannot hear those subs directly at all. It's really cool when you get them setup like that. Although multiple subs can be complicated, one sub setup is actually very easy and I'm 100% sure this group here can make your sub sound better than that car or your friend's house. Your friend will come over, hear your setup and go OOOOOOO what did you do that sounds amazing? OR, since he's used to hearing his own setup, he may actually hate yours at first because he won't hear the bass he is used to.
  20. Well any AVR can do this job that has 7.1 channels. To start a conversation about making a change requires that you tell us why....just to see what might be better, to improve something, to avoid something, to seek out a particular benefit? That would help with recommendations. If you are just saying hey what's out there and what do people recommend, there are actually some recent dedicated threads to that specific topic already out there.
  21. It may, or it could be a ground loop. That description is EXACTLY what a ground loop sounds like. Sub amps left on that are connected to other devices that are not grounded the same will create that ground loop. I have them in both theaters, and both were overcome with ground loop isolators placed just before the cable boxes input. So the gist is it could be the sub or it could be how you set it up. I tend to think that the setup itself is causing all the issues, the ground loop and then something with the AVR where the signal sent is plenty to get the signal to the sub but not enough to trip the auto on feature. Just my guess. I would say the easiest way to test that sub is to take it to another system and plug it in, perhaps at a friends house which will tell you the story quickly. Sorry for the frustration, it is rarely a cord issue.
  22. leave it ON all the time it is not an issue. even when auto works it still sometimes shuts off at the wrong time
  23. Assuming you plugged in the subwoofer?☺ Try the power switch on ON instead of auto. The signal from the avr to the sub may not be enough to kick it on which could be an issue w the avr or the sub...likely the sub
