  1. I have some analysis cable i have on my SuperHeresy, I'll give it a try on the Cornscala. I used to run monster cable on everything years ago, then with all the talk about lamp cord being good enough, i started buying 16g speaker wire for everything when i needed more wire. Looks like i may have to go back to the good stuff.
  2. That's just crazy to me. Here's something else that looks promising, Primaluna EVO 400 for $4700. Anyone have any experience with this or any of the Toolshed amps? Still liking the Ayon spirit v as well.
  3. Yes, Yamaha does make some nice stuff. I currently have one of their AV receivers. RX-V2092 about 20 years old now. The natural sound really does sound simular to my Chinese tube amps and its a real thumper.
  4. Hahah, that’s crazy money. Something I will never have, but a $6000 amp would not break the bank. You only live once and can’t take the money with you.
  5. That says a lot. I know Craig had good reviews on his amps.
  6. Yeah, sadly we can no longer walk into a hifi shop and have a listen. I miss those days. We used to have 4 high end hifi stores here, one sold Klipsch products.
  7. Those look to be nice as well. They kind of remind me of the NOSvalves amp craig used to build. He used to live near me and an old friend. He might be able to build me a pair if i wanted that style/design.
  8. Just looking right now, but looking to pull the trigger in the fall or around christmas. I would like to keep it under $3000, but depends how much i want it. $6000 may not be out of question.
  9. I just read the review on the Ayon spirit v. I believe 70w max as well. Don't really need 70w, but nice to have some reserve power to reproduce the lower bass notes was my thought. The way i understand it, the Ayon is wired a bit different than your tipical tube amp for a cleaner sound. Sounds like SET, but with lots of power. Gonna have to step up to the pay window with this amp at $6000.00 thou.
  10. Yes, i understand. Looking at all options here for sure.
  11. I agree, it will be small improvements at a time. I am looking at getting back into vinyl and looking at the EAT turntables. Still using my old modded Sony C333ES super audio changer for feeding audio to my Chinese amps. Really thinking more serious about the Ayon amps as well. I would think these two items would make some nice improvements.
  12. That's really part of the question, why do they cost so much more, thousands more and i doubt they sound much better than an amp costing 40,000 dollars less. I have looked at the Toolshed amps as well. I really like the looks and the reviews seem pretty good, but not sure if 10w would be enough to drive the bass as low as i like it at times. $5500 is a bit over my budget as well. Anyone have any experience with the Toolshed amps?
  13. Do you think a $54,000.00 amp would sound better than $10,000.00 amp or even a $30,000.00 amp? I would never spend that kind of money on an amp, but under $4000.00 i might. I'm thinking this expensive amp thing may be just like the $20,000.00 silver cables.
  14. $6000.00, but i noticed it is not in the line up on their site. Maybe discontinued?
  15. That is what my father used to say, only worth what someone is willing to pay. I have a pair of Cornscala i just built and a pair of SuperHeresy that i would like to pair with a better amp than i currently have. I have 2 chinese amps that have done me well, but looking for more life like sound now. My Audcom is a 25/ch with JJ KT77 in it and the Douk is a KT88 12/ch amp with Gold Lion output tubes. Both sound very nice, but looking for more. I have some interest in the Cary SLI-80 and the Ayon spirit 3. Both in the thousands, but i have not read many good reviews on the Cary.
  16. Allnic has something that costs $54,000 and Ayon $10,000, Cary $3000+. Are these amps really worth that kind of money?
  17. I have never listened to the Belles, but i think i had a simular problem with some cornwall converted cornscala's i built. Using B&C 85(zxpc horn) and 120 drivers with a Kappa 3015lf woofer and ALK universals. Very vailed and lifeless unless on turn the volume to blast. I borrowed a pair of DeanG universals from a member here that were built for his Khorns. I had to attenuate the mids 5db above the woofers 96spl spec and run the DE120 wide open with no attenuation and these things are now simply bad ***. I do not like the ALk universals with the audyn caps. Maybe its just your audyn caps.
  18. I will check that Dean. I am getting plenty of bass, no issue there. I believe they cross 400/6000, is that correct? Using the Kappa 3015LF woofers. Very nice cross overs, i'm very impressed.
  19. I don't believe your misunderstanding anything Dean. These were build for Klipschorns, but there sounding pretty darn good on my cornscala's. I have the tweeter attenuators from ALK wired in, but they are set at 0, they sound best there, so they could be removed. Yes, i understand how to set the taps for attenuation, but i am not measuring with any equipment. I'm using my ear only and i'm very happy with the sound. Using the the big rectangular 17x10 horn with the 2" mouth. I think its called a zxpc horn or something like that.
  20. I tried 6db on the mid and it was too much for me in this little office. I then switched to 7db attenuation and bingo. Think i nailed it. Man, these Cornscala's are really shining now. I believe thats the best i'm gonna get. This 7db setting sets the mid horn 5db hotter than the woofer. You mentioned in an old post that 5db hotter may be the answer and you were correct Geoff. I'm listening at 75-80db and i'm really liking this. I do have the Dia. The main in and Biamp in are labeled backwards just to let you know.
