What happened Maximus - room just too small?

Selling everything, need to move to a small apartment unfortunately and just need cash right now. Can't take the KHorns or Chorus II with me, well maybe if i can't get what i want for the Chorus II, they can stay but was thinking of just downsizing to Heresy II's(IIIs would be preferable if a deal came up or if i find another single damaged walnut Forte III, i can fix it up and make a pair). The small room has never been a problem. Amazing bass + acoustic treatments help.  I mean i'd love to hold on to the KHorns stock for now, but what are the odds i'd find 2 good corners in a small apartment?

  2.

Audiocap PPT Theta film and foil in both the mids and highs. 6uF caps for the mids with the taps set to -6 as most seem to prefer. Dean will have to tell you about the other parts used.

Paid over $700 in October of 2018

    Looking for $550 + shipping

    Thanks for looking

  3. Thanks Kalifornian

I also have a pair of Chorus II I’m selling. They’ve got ti tweeters and I currently have ti mids in them but have the stock as well. They’re definitely not lookers. But in this Texas market I’m not looking to give them away due to looks as I paid more than I’d be willing to sell them for in worse shape plus ti tweeters($60) and ti mids($175 iirc). So if anyone wants a front stage of Chorus II and Forte III center- here’s your opportunity.

Also will list a pair of 76 raw fir KHorns with AAs, round alinco k77s and K55v

Separate list- pair of Dean made AAs using Audiocap PPT thetas- mids dialed back -6db

I’ll list the chorus II and khorns and Dean AAs when I get a chance

  4. This Forte III arrived damaged. Repairs done myself. Titebond II on motorboard, siliconed inside edges. Major veneer damage at top corners were replaced with walnut veneer cut outs-best I could do. Another one on the left top side. Other veneer damage was just filled with walnut filler as I didn’t want to mess with 2 corners of the edgeband and side or top veneer. Riser has crack in the veneer at the rear but barely noticeable. Doesn’t have the copper jumpers, but wire is better anyway. Sounds perfect.

Has paper work and original box.

    $600 local pickup

  5. Yes I got a steal for the forte III in reality. Repairs weren’t a big deal for me. Titebond and clamp all the loose cabinet splits. Sealed the inside edges to ensure no air leaks. Walnut veneer cut outs for badly damaged veneer except where you see in the front top and right side near the edge band where I didn’t want to mess with it, so I used walnut colored wood filler as best I could. The risers were split open but luckily clean breaks so glue and clamp actually put them back together nicely. Only one clear break point where you can really see the wood filler and it’s on the back of the riser that can’t be seen. Overall I was happy with the repairs and I can easily veneer the entire thing again custom if I choose to. 1k for HIIIs would be nice but when approaching that price, I’d rather just get another Forte III to make a pair.

It’s not completely set in stone that I have to sell everything. It all depends on if I have to move to a small apartment or not.

  6. Oh yeah. My single forte III arrived with split open cabinet and broken riser and dents etc. I repaired it myself but it’s still obvious there was damage that’s why I couldn’t get proper value for it

  7. I want Heresy IIIs default_sad.png I’ve got to sell off my Chorus II and KHorns but I was looking at HIIIs to keep my itch satisfied. Still. Probably can’t do 1k so I’d have to settle for used HIIs. Do they still do the II to III upgrade package?

Maybe I can trade my single Forte III for a pair of heresy IIs

  8. Brotha Cesar,

It's only 15 days into 2019, ...and I almost have all components for that 5.1 Dvd-Audio Jube System.

I just might make that 'GAME of THRONES deadline', way ahead of my predicted schedule for that 125" Projector + Screen !

Hell yeah!! Lmk next time I can come and listen to some multi channel music! Hope you’re doing good!

  9. Well that’s just my inexperienced thought. Maybe it’s easier than I imagine to veneer rounded edges/corners? Maybe special veneer I don’t know about that doesn’t break when bent? I really don’t know. Point me in the right direction if you know- then maybe I’ll consider industrial la scala splits again and veneer them in beautiful walnut :)

  10. Pro is expensive. It seems like there’s this misconception that bc they’re pro and don’t focus on aesthetics for the home with costly wood veneer- that they’re cheap or at least similar in cost to the heritage and reference lines. They seem to be much more costly and then add the fact that there’s not too many people who can get away with using them in a living room and they’re not friendly toward DIY guys who would like to veneer the cabinets themselves due to all the rounded/beveled edges etc and odd shapes.
I can also see the specs turning some off in terms of low end.

I personally wanted to go this route and was shocked at the price I was told for the Ki-396-II or the 362-II I was interested in

  11. Has anyone done active 2 way khorns with k510s? Do they work well together? I recall Roy saying the la scala dog house is closer in design to the jubilee LF than the Khorn.

just got done demoing @Born2RockUs Jubilees(LCR Jubes with faital pro drives and Danley sub) for the first time and I’m blown away.

Can’t afford to go Jubes with K402 so looking at different options. Could potentially go Jubilee with K510 if I sold most of my speakers including the Khorns but wondering if the Klipschorns LF with K510 would sound good since I wouldn’t have a sub and the low end of the khorn sounds great in corners to me.

  12. You also have a lot of raised grain. You should remove the speaker components, and use some mineral spirits to clean the cabinet and raise the grain and then sand them down before using the minwax weathered oak and classic gray stain mix

I’m personally interested bc my Douglas Fir Klipschorns need to be restored and I think veneering such a large cabinet is too big of a move for my first veneer work so I was thinking of repairing damaged veneer/filling in and then sanding down and using the weathered oak and classic grey stain to create a distressed oak look and get lambswool grill fabric. A project for when the weather gets warmer
