  1. Tuba 24 is 24 xx 24 x 16[or 24] and the HT is 36 x 36 X 18+. This version is 36 X 36 X 24. Here is the curve from the Tuba web site. Anyone got a curve from someone other than the mfg?
  2. I am told by the owner that the SB is a Tuba HT whatever that is. He says he thinks it is better than a "24". Do you happen to have the curve on a "HT"? i am told it assembles into a box 36 X 36 X 24 which is why I thought it was Tuba 24. It sounds like assembly might be a waste of time if the curve you have is for it. The TSCM is supposed to go nearly that low.
  3. I have used them flat but the mounting and room dynamics are the real controlling parameters. Put the horns in the center. I liked mine best when they were on a footrest about 24 inches off the ground and about 12 inches from the wall under the TV.
  4. I have run Rf 61ii flat with no noticeable problem but this is a room dependent problem. I am currently using my RF 82ii lying flat one on top of the other as my center. One is left to right and the other the reverse. Best center I have heard.
  5. Roger; my plan is to replace the caps in the crossovers and then listen a bit. Since I reapportioned the sound from the TSCMs to reduce the top a bit and thereby boost the bin I really like what I am getting. I am willing to tinker a bit with the TSCMs but really doubt the significant extra $ associated with double bins and/or 402s will be worth it since my hearing is less than full range. I may end up bi-amping the TSCMs though. I appreciate the thoughts. I really do not have room for the double bins however. I do have a disassembled Tuba 24" which I will probably put back together since I understand it goes to about 20 cps. By the way, any secret sources of economical MWM doubles or 402 tops? I think I may be getting the itch. Anyway thanks for the advice.
  6. I have been usiing 82s and in my opinion they are a bit bright; curable however with my equalizer. If you have the room I would consider a pair of RC 7s.
  7. Scrappydue is right on. One thing to remember. The center channel carries a large share of voice audio. The 7s are a bet bright as he says but for movies that is exactly what you want for voice. I really like his idea of another 83 for a center. I have chosen the route by having my pair of 82ii paired as my center for my TSCMs. There is another alternative that is possible. Try a pair of RB 81ii layed flat. They match the 8 inch drivers well and should be much cheaper.
  8. OK on that. If you can find a 7 you will love it. There are various improvements for it if you are a tinkerer.
  9. By the way, why would anyone with 83s want to trade for 35s?
  10. The 83 are serious fronts. I have 82s which are very similar. I have been running a RC 7 with 8 inch outers and a 1.75 center. Matches well with the 8 inch fronts. I have gone to TSCMs and am using my 82s for center. The RC 7 is available. Not sure what it is worth, make me an offer.
  11. Anyone still lurking there in the weeds? I am a new TSCM owner and am looking for others who have already invented the wheel. Anyone with who has improved upon the rather simplistic crossover? Changed the tweeter diaphragms to extend the frequency response? Installed a lower resonance frequency driver in the bass bin? I would like to not re-invent the wheel if someone has already tried some of these things.

One last comment. I made a simplistic mod to the TSCMs that adjusted the base/treble quite well. [secret trick learned from a forum person] I have run the Audyssey electronic balance program and then made really minor mods to the suggested settings. The result is far better than my fondest expectations. The stereo effect is as good as I have ever heard anywhere and the wall of sound effect good. I have tried a couple of movies and the response of guests has been highly favorable. I have a video clip of space ships coming from the right rear and going away center screen. The stereo effect is no less than spectacular. Considering my room dimensions all is well. The TSCM sound is so much better than the borrowed Cornwalls which I always coveted. I think my investment in them has been rewarded. In any event the forum has proven its worth by getting me a simple solution to the balance problem with the TSCMs even though separate adjustable amps may be the long term solution. Thanks all.

My amp does have low level outputs which can be used to bi-amp and this sounds like a possible solution to the level matching.

I have just completed electronic setup with the maranz and then done listening tests for balance and stereo effect. Both came out very well. Turns out the TSCMs seem to have a mid and high emphasis which I have been told that may be associated with the through the screen process. The bass binn output seems lower than expected. The TSCMs are louder per given power level than the rest of the klipsch. I had to increase the gain on the center for example by 6 db and reduce the TSCM gain by 5 db to bring the center lev

Actually I am working in a finite space. I have used an absorptive surface on top of the drywall and so called absorptive paint. This seems to work quite well to limit the reflections. I did borrow a pair of Cornwalls to try and get a reference. To my ears the TSCMs are a significant improvement. I also set up the RF 82s and thought they were so close the Cornwalls I could not tell the difference. However it is not my intention to have a world class system; in fact my ears are not world class quality. Also the volume of sound I have is far in excess of the size of my theater. Therefore I will be operating them as some small percent of their capacity. But it is probably a fact the capabilities of my system will exceed my ears. I have available a dismantled TUBA 24 for use as a subwoofer but with the 82s going down to 32 cps and the TSCMs somewhere in the same area I doubt I will assemble it but I will have to try out the system on an extended frequency blue ray first. I really doubt that there is all that much sub 30 cycle content available. Anyway I appreciate the comments. I have just spent some time with the schematic for the crossover networks and they are minimalist to say the least. I do intend to get the caps replaced for sure since these are certainly quite old. I would do something exotic but ALK did not think the "universal" was appropriate and has nothing custom. Feel free to be blunt; I will plagiarize a good idea from anyone.

[ personal preference] Similar differences exist with the surround, high and rear speakers. Any tech suggestions on how to reduce the mid and tweeter sections to match up with the bass?

Theater nearly finished. Sound system with 14 speakers and Marantz sound system. Sounds great and i hve not been into the TSCM speakers yet. Just got my screen. 85 TV in process. Amp and other eqpt. is to the left where it can be reached w/out interfering with the pic. The center speaker consists of two R-82 towers crossed. Theater seating next along with the TV. Projector is up and running just waiting for the screen.

Well the theater is nearly finished and the 5.1 sound system is in. The TSCMs sound remarkably good considering they are not a perfect match to each other and the components are so old. I am going to rebuild the crossovers with better caps. The tweeters are K-79. Does anyone know the difference between a k-78 and a k-79? I am just about to go inside to find out.
  19. My set of TSCM have the K 78 tweeters. Does anyone know the difference between the K77 and the K88?

Well the drywall is in and taped. Now working on electric outlets, etc. Then paint and floors. I have pics so perhaps someone could clue me how to post. I have verified that all 14 speakers are working and the cross over appears to be generally working as intended. I am intrested in TSCM crossover improvements and possible k78 speaker diapham replacement with titatium. Like to find someone else who has made it happen successfully before I experiment. More later when I get it working.

Thanks for the thought on the tweeters. It will depend on my ears and a bit on the way the room sounds. Actually most of my friends turn down the treble just a bit on the new 20k + speakers anyway. I am going to be away for most of July and August so it looks like Sept. before it is really ready. More later.

Well I have the speakers and they sound good in the garage. The theater is framed and wired with drywall going in this week. If I could figure it out I have pictures.

I am building out an oversize attic into an 1100 sq. ft. man cave/theater. Going to frame the wall to accept these guys. I have a 9.1 top of the line Marantz for power. In the home we are leaving I have a 9.1 theater set up using rf 82ii, rc7, and 6 rf62ii. Since the build out has just started I will take a few pics as we go along. I am assured they are 100% functional. k33 + 4 k55 + 2 k78. I have to hear them but the specs call for a 16 k top so I may replace the tweeters. Have to hear them first.
  24. I have the RC 7 s and use 2 as my center. They are a great center speaker. I have tried the vertical placement and it works will with a bit of a riser below to get it off the ground a bit. BUT......... Having had the RF 7 s I can't believe you will like it.
