  3. I want to Ditto Chris's comments and also add that I personally feel this forum is better off with Mobile, than without him. I have personally benefited from his knowledge in the short time being here. What makes this forum worth coming to IMHO, is the opinions and wealth of information contained within. Everyone can bring something to the table here, even if its trivial, esoteric, or supremely important. I don't care much for the pissing matches or the "I know more than you do crap. " It's not real important to me that member A is smarter than member B, or that C is blowing lots of smoke. We all, to some degree, have Music, Klipsch and the electronics that put that all together in common. Lets all just try to enjoy our mutual hobby and tolerate each other the best we can. I feel it's important to add that it is possible to disagree with someone, and also state your opinions about why you disagree with them, without insulting them or their intelligence. Thanks for listening. - tb
  4. NOS440 - I'll see what I can do for the photo. Might be a few days. Did you get a copy of the build Manual yet ? I have a copy of it. You might find it useful. - tb
  5. Hard to say which would sound better on your system and to your ears. Both have enough power, and are decent units. I like the EL-84 tube better than the EL-34, so my nod goes to the Jolida. You might want to try to find it used on Audiogon. - tb ------------------ ----------------------------- Two Channel System(s) Phono - None now. 7. NOS440. I must admit, I have not been following your issue with your EICO unit. For what it's worth, my unit came with a repair ticket for work done 8/2/01 I'll list here verbatim what's on the ticket. Perhaps it will help your situation, perhaps not. I know little to nothing about electronics, but perhaps this will help your situation. -------------------------------------------------- Customer Complaint: Hum, No sound, Also Intermittent Static, Noise. 8. For those that are interested, I posted a high-res picture of the point-to-point wiring. Warning, this is a large file (about 480 k) http://home.attbi.com/~tbabb/images/EICOUNDERLRG.jpg - tb
  9. mdeneen - The previous owner did the rebuild, and this is what he said was done: - Rebuilt power supply - Auricap coupling caps for the EL84's - Coupling caps are Auricaps - Electrolytics are Nichicon, and Sprague. - All grounds were cleaned during the rebuild. There were also some resistors and filters replaced to get rid of hum and some intermitent noise. I'm glad everyone feels this unit is in good shape, because I bought it sight unseen with a Money Order. I bascally took his word that it was as nice as it was. He assured me it was plug-and-play, which turned out to be true. I paid $350 for this unit. To me, it sounds every bit as good as the Manely Stingray tube AMP I tried out. ($2500). So for me, the $350 was money well spent. - tb
  10. Mobile, I was reading up on the 12AX7 / 12AU7 tube info. Can you tell me what you have in your two units, and why you like them? Also, I just can help wondering, based on Joes Tube Lore, how a 5751 would sound instead of the 12AX7s ? Have you tried this? Gosh, those 12AX7s can get mighty expensive ! Has Tube Rolling the EICO been discussed here before?
  11. Thanks for the suggestions and compliments. I got this gem from a collector from Texas. He responded to a AD I placed on Audiogon. It was a bit of a wait to find him, and he was irresolute at first and changed his mind about selling it to me. After many emails, he came around and told me he would sell it to me, but I would have to wait until his replacement amp was finished. I waited and watched as about 5-6 EICO's on ebay had come and gone while waiting for this one. This unit has absolutely no hum at all and is dead quiet. I'm really blown away with the Sonics. I can't wait to roll some better tubes in it. Suggestions very welcome. Mobile, I would appreciate any specific tube recommendations. What's good? I'm about 30 minutes away from Triode and actually I might be going there on Monday. So if you got suggestions, please give me some specific suggestions. I also see tube-world has loads of stuff, and if you have suggestions from their inventory, speak up please. Mobile - You mentioned replacing Caps? Which caps?? Please refer to your numbered diagram from your web site if you can. Thanks. P.S. Remember I'm new to this stuff
  12. Thanks to the informative people here at the Klipsch forums, and of course Mobile Homeless for spreading the word on this great AMP. What a great sounding unit ! Here is a web site I setup to show the photos of my unit. http://home.attbi.com/~tbabb/eico.html - tb
  13. TBrennan, Unlike yourself, I am more open minded to what I consider funny. Witty and clever, good old slapstick, and the exploding cigar humor. They are all forms of humor. Don Rickles was rude AND insulting, and he was darned funny at it too. Your entitled to your opinion and your criticism. I however don't share your narrow minded view of the world. I maybe a jerk-off, but your an old stick-in-the-mud.
  14. NOS440 - Those ProMedia's are pretty loud aren't they? That's what happened to me... TBrennan - It's called humor and I need it. Also I wasn't the original originator of this, so apparently others need it too. After my heart got back into place, I laughed for 10 minutes afterwards. Then more times after I started getting emails from friends who got the crap scared out of them too. ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  15. To get the full effect, it helps to have the sound turned way up. When I first seen it, I just happened to be listening to my Klipsch computer speakers with the volume pretty high. Needless to say, it grabbed my full attention. ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  16. This isn't related to audio, but I thought this was hilarious. If you don't have a sense of humor, move on. See anything wrong with this picture? You will see it if you look long enough. http://home.attbi.com/~tbabb/images/whats-wrong.swf ------------------ Tim's Home Theater

  18. I just might go. I was seriously thinking about that Ella kit. Sounds like a good time and a chance to score a good deal on a tube amp. - tb ------------------ Tim's Home Theater

  20. Mobile, I will probably have the unit late next week, perhaps by the weekend. Very much looking forward to it. I'll try to post some pics. - tb ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  21. Mobile, The tubes are: NOS EZ81(rectifier) EH12AX7 EI EL84 purchased from Ned at Triode Electronics. Coupling caps are Auricaps Electrolytics are Nichicon, and Sprague. Based on the description the current owner has given me, it seems like he knows his stuff and has rebuilt the unit properly. shapeshifter - I'll sift through the quagmire, thanks. - tb ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  22. Shapshifter and Jazman, Thanks for you input. I'll be getting both the Tesla and RCAs to experiment with. I'll start saving my coin for some Mullards or NOS though. I did check out Mobiles site. Lots of good info! I'm glad kh took the time to do it. Is there a site that reviews tubes in various amps? Being a newbie to this, I'd like to start educating myself. - tb ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  23. Mobile, Looks like I'll be getting my Eico HF-81 very soon now. The seller is giving me my choice of output tubes, which are: JJ/Tesla, Ei/Yugo, or RCA/USA Any reccomendations? Pros and Cons? Thanks in advance Tim Babb ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  24. John, I actually just ordered a pair of Wave 8's from my local hi-fi shop. They had a demo pair, but no news ones in stock. I borrowed the "demo" units and unfortuately one of them had a burnt out resistor, so I had to return them. The working one did sound pretty darn good. Luckly for me I convinced the dealer that I needed to have "something" to listen to while my Wave-8's were on order, so I've borrowed a pair of AQ-1006 (845) DT's to keep me happy till my Waves are in. ;-) 22 watts Single-Ended Triode 845 Output Tube 6L6, 3 x 6SN7 all Triode Frontend (0 NFB) Point-to-Point Wiring Tube Regulated Choke Filtered Power Supply - tb ------------------ Tim's Home Theater
  25. Tom, Was the Chicago meeting open to all those interested? I'd love to attend one of those meetings. Please put me down on the list for next time. I'm in Palatine. Mobile - Its evident that your a designer at heart as all your posts that contain photos are all outlined cropped and have drop shadows in them, even the crappy photos. ;-) ------------------ Tim's Home Theater This message has been edited by tbabb on 02-17-2002 at 02:00 PM
