  1. Clueless This is dependent on the video section and capabilities of your new AVR----and what signal you are trying to pass--don't know much about the Denon line BUT---I believe that the 5803--due out soon---will pass a 1080 signal (HD) whereas your new one won't--not sure about 480--as in DVD--you'lll have tto check the AVR specs). Also depends on the input package of your TV dsplay--- (whether it has a dedicated 1080 input) and depnds on you end result objective/s---convenience vs best quality video etc In my case I have a Pioineer 49TX which is THX2 certified and thus does pass 1080---even so---I leave the HiDef signal out of the AVR loop--inputting directly to the TV BUT do run my VCR Svid and DVD component vids into/out of the 49TX and find no discernable singal degradation--effect on end result picture. Your best answers are probably found on a Denon forum or one devoted to your TV display IMHO---Dave
  2. HE Tks for the added clarification---and the "SVS tower of power" photo That is quite a "rig" I see-----is that a coffee table in the foregroud or a stage! (maybe you've got a high powered Karaoke in the rig) :^) Have you licensed that "tower of power" contraption to Ron and Tom yet?---Need an agent? As always---thanks alot Dave
  3. Okay Montigue ! Great advice---and just in time for the weekend! I like to refinish cabinets---so, I'm pretty adept at the process-----believe the Minwax line is a rubbing stain type--so brush it on---and wipe it off (an old T shirt)--this will give a uniform color HOWEVER----not sure on the finish/protective coating--to match the "oiled oak" finish on the Klipsch speaker I seek to match---the"oiled" one I have is a very flat finish----duller than "satin" minwax poly------does Klipsch actually just stain and then "oil" (vs poly or something else) and if so---what "oil"--and application technique do they use?-----(have sent an e mail to Klipsch but they aren't very good at responding--so maybe I'll call them----but they aren't good at returning calls either--so I have learned) Any clarification on the final finish technique will be appreciated. Tks Dave
  4. That's right J Hawk----I am going to corner the market on Academy's !!!----vs the KV 3 we discussed---it's now two Academy's on the rear wall---over kill I'm sure. But, hey, you only come around once---right? And when they go to 10.1 sound---I'll be back out there looking for some more Regards Dave.
  5. As always---Klipschters to the rescue----great advice I was concerned about the integrity of the speaker cab with that kind of long term stress---so a shelf system it is----got the picture--thanks! My only challenge now is to figure how to tilt--aim each one downward toward my ears as they will need to be about 5-7 feet off the floor---but I'll rig something up to get that done---- Thanks guys! Dave
  6. HE Your "on it" as usual my friend---thanks I'm one of those impatient types that hates to walk into H Depot or anywhere else without knowing exactly what I am looking for---so, if there's anyway to post a picture that would ID it for me well enough---I could just print it and head on down to the local HD While I"m at it---I ordered a second SVS (the Home Theater Spot---has a "group buy" on them---expires on March 7--tomorrow--they knock 15% off the retail from SVS---(but you have to buy a $25 paid membership on the spot to get in on the deal---this netted the SVS 2039 + at $555 delivered to ST. Louis--vs $599 plus UPS So one saves about $80---every little bit helps. Bring this up only because I am still intrigued by your fabricated "tower of SVS power" contraption you mentioned elsewhere-----maybe snap a pic of that too and post it. TKs much Dave
  7. I have an Academy center speaker which has been sanded down to it's oak veneer (was black finish originally). It is now "raw oak" ---I would like to turn it into a factory "oak oil" finish----and want to know what product/s I should use (and technique) to accomplish this. Tks Dave
  8. My plan is to mount a pair of Academy centers spkrs--caninets vertical on a back wall for use as my two "back channel" surround speakers in a 7.1 set up. They will need to be about 6 feet off the floor and again on the wall. Omni MOunt has a wall mount bracket they suggest for this weight speaker (they spec it for the KLF C7 center) My concern is the load that will be put on the back panel of the spkr cab over time---and the speaker's structural integrity to stand up over time---gravity-----my plan is to screw the "foot" plate of the mount directly into the back panel ----' Am looking for any input on the best wall mount technique for this weight speaker (it's about 33 lbs)---techniques--do's--don'ts etc---experience with the Omni Mount product/s---maybe a better way to do this etc etc. Tks all---Dave
  9. I am in the process of buying two new Heresy II's---I need them to match an Academy in "oak oil" finish The Academy is mfg about 1993---does anyone know if the new "oak oil" finish for a new Heresy II will match?---Maybe someone from Klipsch can answer this Q if they are watching this board (hopefully) tks Dave
  10. Steve Hope your right---hoping H E can also chime in with some comforting clarification as well---he said "Heritage"---which of course includes the "H's"--- I know not to ever expect "easy" but whew! I hate ordeals Tks Dave
  11. H E could you elaborate on this, please: "Now that Heritage Speaker production is halted while waiting for a new driver supplier... filling out your system for maximum benefit may mean hunting for used items." I have a new set of H-II's on order and am hoping they are not caught up in this production problem. Pls fill me in---when did this occur and how long will it last--if you know. tks Dave
  12. U Penguin Isn't there a preferred location difference for 5.1 DVD audio and DTS/DD movie listening ?--- AND doesn't furniture obstruction/s have a bearing on this? Hey, I'm all ears What do you think Dave
  13. HE You just made a case for one of those internet capable cell phones----with the vibrator feature (in case one falls asleep) ! Upon reading the details---I am in the hunt for a medium oak unit---so don't feel left out on this one. You made a hell'uva buy here---it does look pristine and you definitely bot it in it's market range Also, great idea on clueing the seller in on this board---EBay won't miss the commish. Congrats---Dave
  14. Hey HE ! Didn't give the rest of us a chance---darn, just when I decided to take a rest from the PC----another one comes and goes---and it appeared to be pristine! HE---thought you knew I was out to corner the Free World's supply of Academies !! Actually--am out for one more Acad to complete my set up--so, if you decide against keeping this one---I'm a buyer.---Keep me in mind Tks Dave
  15. John Thanks for the heads up on the singleton possibility I will advise my dealer---educate him on this. Dave
  17. John "Klipsch has one Heresy for sale!" Are you saying they'd build one vs a pair? Just bot a new pair but my dealer told me they won't do just one. Pls clarify Tks Dave
  18. Believe it depends on your furniture layout etc Are you talking a 5.1 or 7.1 set up? In a room devoid of furniture---if a 7.1 set up--then mount the side surrounds at ear level---no lower--can go higher (just aim toward the "ears")---put 'em plus or minus 2 feet from your ears ---north south. For the backs---mount them a bit higher but again, aimed toward the sweet spot If a 5.1 set up-----same except forget the rears If obstructions in the way of the sound path then mount 'em higher and again, aim to the sweet spot
  19. Having two Heresy II's myself as fronts---and having tried the Academy and C7----I would go with an Academy or even a KV3 (the center I used for a few years)---problem with the C7 was (I believe) that Tratrix horn----which the KV 4 also employees. IMO Dave
  20. Not that I don't love it, but it just isn't as good a Match for my Heresy II's as the Academy I found. Rther than turn this into an Ebay moment---pls e mail me if your interested---it is MINT--with only 4 hours on it (me)--medium oak. Tks Dave
  21. Wes I second your opinion---I'm using Heresy II's as fronts and (until the "bug" hit me) had used a KV 3 as the center (which my recent tweaking revealed was actually a pretty good match--all along). I brought in a C7 for a try and found the same thing---the C7 really kind of dominated the front stage---you really knew it was there (I think it is that Tratrix horn vs the exponentials in the H-II's). Then obtained an Academy (in a 3 way deal with a guy in Italy--who had bought the pair of same you may have noticed on EBay a couple of weeks ago)----and YES the Academy is the pick for at least Heresy II's mains. My next test will be to find another H-II singleton to test as the center----anybody seen a lonely one out there? So, I now have a KLF C-7 looking for a home---it was bought NEW and I've used it for 6 hours--it's medium oak finish---and as stated it is in MINT condition. Have %300 in it----ANY INTEREST?---ANYONE? Tks Dave
  22. Yes H E---knkow what you mean----I am an independent CE rep---including some work with Brother--so, I know about the "supplies" biz----have a laser sample on the way from them---so, I'll hole the color inker in reserve But, back to some "speaker talk"----I read and re read the "Harmon Whitepapers"---and they're now in my reference binder---I noted at least one thing of specific interest in my set up--and maybe you can clarify------- 1) am using Heresy II"s as my front mains and due to decor and space constraints I have them placed in an oak cabinet (which also envelopes my Mits 65" RPTV and the audio components etc)---I am wondering if I have created a performance problem for the H-II's---as you know--each spkr is about 21" H X 13 X 15 or so--the cavity they are each in has an interior dimension of approx 18 X 26 X 18----the face of each Heresey is flush with the front of the cabinet---without any obstructions---(I am fabricating a custom grill coth covering to finish the front (will remove the H-II's factory grills (using Klipsch factory grill cloth--of course)-----referring to p 13 of Part 1 of Mr. Toole's white paper---I believe he recommends filling the empty space surrounding the H-II's in the cabinet cabity with fiberglass wool etc. HE, do you have any thoughts on my config and this advice? 2) Am considering mounting a pair of Academy's for back channels---on the back wall----was checking out the Omni Mount site and see they have a properly rated Wall Mount for this weight speaker (same mount they cross reference as recommended for the C7 center). But I am concerned that I will degrade the integrity of the Academy cabinet/s as my plan is to affix the horizontal support to the back cabinet panel/s (screw the "foot" directly into the back cab panel)---would like any of your thoughts on this mounting plan---particularily whether the Academy's cabinet constructioin is stout enough to withstand this load over time---(the back panel bearing all of the force) Your thoughts will be appreciated Tks Dave
