Valerian Root is effective with some side effects possible. Not in a derogatory sense lasting. Chamomile as well has been long used as a pacifier.

Care should be taken when used with other prescribed medication as, no one wants uninvited interaction between prescribed and effective herbals.

I have taken it in the past and it does help. It clears the mind. Keeps it from thinking about all the things in your life. They talk about life extension. Can you imagine all the shit you would go thru in 300 years or so! I think humans have taken about all their minds can handle in 80 or 90 years.

Home remedy that most-always works for insomnia:  Small juice glass of elderberry wine about half-hour before bedtime...elderberry wine is also an analgesic and works like aspirin for headaches and such.

I have made some great elderberry wine. I have made some that sucked also.

Obviously I don't know any of your specific details.

Taking you at face value, you are going to be trading a guaranteed lifetime income for something that CAN be outlived....  Not the first recommendation I'd make without other facts known.

Then again, you do say "one" of them.....  suggesting you might have more than one (good for you!!)

Irrespective of that, go back to (again, what I presume to be for you) guaranteed lifetime income for "X" amount of cash up front which, can be outlived.

(as someone who spent his mothers assets down.....100% paid for condo, gone, car gone and $500K dwindled down to $30K all to pay for nursing home) I might be more sensitive to the idea of lifetime income.

I am getting 2 pensions. One im getting monthly starting at 60. The other im taking as a lump. I have saved a lot also. I won't put all my eggs in one basket. Saving was about all I ever did that was smart. I can't predict the future, but im pretty sure I will be fine. I never had kids to drain my savings lol. I would never say im 100 percent sure.  Life does not work that way. I really am kind of glad the market is taking a dip. I wanted it to before I retire hoping to ride 8 to 10 years on a good part of the cycle. I live a pretty simple life. I have a nice small home in the sticks. I like to travel when I want and have a dependable ride or two. Thats about it. I can have fun just taking a drive out in the sticks, or going out to eat.

Good luck to you.  I normally wake up around 4:00 myself (anywhere from 3:00/3:30 on...)  so can relate with catching the first worm.

In my case, I just get up, turn the news on and start my day.

It's when my wife starts talking to me about spring cleaning or adding another room onto the house that I'm able to fall into a deep sleep.

    :emotion-14:

I usually wake up around 3 or 3:30 but we just sprang forward a hour. So at least im consistent. Ive been working swing shift all the way back to when I was 21. Im sure my internal clock is pretty messed up.

  6. Thanks for the posts! It’s funny some of the things you guys said, was like you were talking to me specifically. I had pistachio’s before I went to bed. I’ve worked shift work for over 35 years, and the bong hit  one was spot on. That one kept me up more than it helped me sleep, but things worked out. I learned to leave the bong alone for 19 more months. That’s when I hope to retire.

  7. It’s 4 in the morning and I’m wide awake. How do you get to sleep when your staring at the ceiling? The older I get the more I struggle with it!

so i shouldn't be afraid of 8" woofers then, right?

I would prefer 8 inch woofers for rock. I have the 280s and the bass is fine for most music types. Like you said for rap you may need a sub. I use a little eq in my crappy room to tame the highs a fuzz. Klipsch can be a little hot on the highs in some rooms or with some gear. I just use a Schiit Loki for a limited amount of control. I set it and leave it alone.

I was recently approached by an owner of a high end contracting business in Los Angeles to become their director of operations. They build interiors of restaurants, office buildings, and have hi-end residential clients, all masonry and decorative concrete. I know it's a huge change from a medium sized midwest city. Housing cost are astronomical. It's mainly in the Hollywood, Burbank, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Glendale, and north LA areas.

I know there's a huge group of people leaving Cali, most going to Texas, Las Vegas, and Florida. I spent 4 days there last week with their crews and liked the place MUCH more than I thought I would have. I know everyone has an opinion. let's hear them.....

You are CRAZY!!! But im out in the sticks and love it. Its all up to you! I like Indy. Its easy to get around.  And I love this place when I come to Indy!

  10. Im in the process of getting one of my pensions this month. Im taking a lump sum. It figures thing would be uneasy at the time , but lower stock market numbers do mean there are some deals out in the market. Buy low sell high I guess.  I told my money guy last month to move more to bonds as a safety net and hit it right. Im only down 2 percent overall.

I was given 300 bucks or so to buy a stereo for our control room at work. I picked this and 4 cheap polk speakers. I could not get them to cough up enough for klipsch. Sounds nice for the dollars spent. It now says only use one set of 8 ohm speakers, not 2 sets. We have been using 2 sets for a few years now.  This is the first time I saw this. This is a receiver, but I would not know if that would mater. I have it hooked to an antenna about 130 ft in the air! Size wise its not tiny, but far from huge. How small do you need?
