I use Amazon for the most part these days.  Hard to find much in stores any more since they carry less and less selection of disc based media.

I have collected hundreds of music dvd and blu rays.  Love the concert formats instead of the old MTV style music videos.  I find I can enjoy the concert music video more often then watching the some movie repeatedly.

I highly recommend Led Zeppelin - Celebration Day (Blu-ray), Pink Floyd - Pulse (DVD), Eagles - Farewell 1 Tour (Blu-ray), Rush - R30 or R40 (Blu-ray), and Ladies & Gentemen - The Rolling Stones (DVD).

There a so many good choices to pick from.....depending on your taste.   I keep an eye out on music news sites and bluray.com for upcoming new releases.

Some artists are very prolific about releasing videos and have a large catalog to choose from.  The Rolling Stones have a HUGE catalog to pick from.  I still have not found any commercial releases by Bob Seger or Boston....too bad cause I would love that.

At goodwill I found an Elton John,  Bob Dylan and a John Mayer concert DVD, I think these were rare finds for goodwill. I really enjoyed the concert's in surround sound and I think I am hooked. Thanks for the suggestions, I will try give them a try!

Don't have much of a movie collection but see a new concert dvd collection in the future. I can see these being play more than once unlike my small movie collection.

Happy shopping and patient waiting on the mail.  It will be well worth your effort and you will enjoy them for years to

  2. Is your system being used mostly for HT or music. Does the forte center not have a woofer or rad. speaker? I am running chours II's and a diy chorus 1.5. as a front stage. For HT It's great for music the center was built to be slightly lower then the II's (built that way to keep tv more at eye level)and it's noticable. Not a big deal but sometimes I run a 3 channel front for music and you can notice the center channel is at a slightly lower level. Vocals are slightly lower but it still sounds good.

I like your front stage but if you have a woofer and rad. to go in the forte I would try that and stand it up right so it would on the same level as the II's. For the rears if the quartets sound good/match I would stick with them. Chorus I's would be a nice upgrade for the quartets. It might be hard to set up chorus II's in the rear without a good wall or corner behind them.

If possible trade/buy a nice pair of subs, I think that is your weak link.

Not an expert but I would get a good front stage, look at a nice pair of 15inch subs and go from there. .02

Looked at your room again and It's hard to tell how far away the sofa is from the tv, front stage. In that long of a room you could do a 7.?.2 if you stay with the 5 way set up if you could try to move the sofa up a little get the quartets more behind you. Might help with surround experience.

If you like 2 channel for music you might go with more modern klipsch surround speakers? I have no experience with the more modern klipsch speakers but l am sure some others will pop in soon.

I saw this CL ad over the weekend. If they were splits, I would have already purchased them.

They are less than an hour away.

Have found several pair of very nice HWO Heresy's as well.

    Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Just over an hour me, if I did not buy some revel speakers last month I would buy them.

Just to clarify, does this mean that the Forte III drone will work in the Forte II, Chorus II, or both?

The Forte III and Forte II drone have the same KD-15 part number.

The Chorus II drone is KD-16, so not sure what the difference is.

With the different numbers wonder if chorus II's have to be replaced in pairs?

The confidence in his reply alone sold me, but that is very reassuring to know - thank you.

I'm going to call to see how much they are.  Im guessing $100+ for each, not sure if they have a recone kit.  I may end up getting the Simply Speakers Recone Kit at $40/ea, removing the magnet and reconing both.  But perhaps there is something to be said about using Klipsch parts vs 3rd party?

Have not used simple speakers but have hear good and bad about them. Maybe someone here has some real world experience with them. They may be a good choice but sometimes trying to save a few bucks costs more in the long run.

If you get a know quality speaker right away you should have years of trouble free listening. .02

  7. Got to agree, I have a pair of chorus II's and I's in my present set up. The I's have 7 inch ports and bumped a coupls notch's on bass knob. Sounds good but II's are just as tight with a little more punch. Not saying a tuned port could not sound good but still would not be an original sounding II. Got to think resell value would go down with a port. .2cents

From the demo, i knew something was wrong with the tweeters.  Once i got a chance to open it up, i tested the tweeters with a multimeter and got a null reading.  I assumed they were dead.  Replaced them with ti diaphragms from Crites.   That was when i removed the "passive radiator"..

You should like the ti upgrade, I did! I would check the mids with a meter also for peace of mind. Please post what you found out about the radiator, I think I might have one going bad

Thanks for the advice about the subs.  One of my concerns is that the right side and rear of the room is wide open.  Getting a balanced sound may be challenging but I really don't want to get a contractor to build walls there and enclose the room since I'm not the only one using it.  I think I am going to go with the RP 280FAs front and rear and then the 260F towers for sides.  Unless someone tells me the 250S surrounds are better for the sides?

Not an expert but towers on sides and rear can make it hard to adjust them for height. Maybe you could put a heavy curtain over all or part of the open area? If you decide to try curtains goodwill is a good place to get cheap ones.

  10. Some people have braced the cab. sealed inside corners and put fill of your choice in the cab. Wal-Mart has small felt pieces you can glue to the inside of the horns to help with resonance. (If you try this spray glue works well) I did try not try the bracing, fill or sealing but I did try the felt idea and it did seem to help some.  Some people have glued a 2.5 oz weight to the raditator to tune it, personal I would get a sub or 2.

Another idea is to roll a piece of paper in a cone shape and put it the horn lens. Did try this but not sure if I was doing it right. If I remember moray James is the expert on this method.

My system is similar to yours, chorus II, chorus I and I built a chorus center channel. (New kappa C woofer, k 61 mid and k 79 tweeter) For sides I am one kp 250 and one kp 250II, got a good deal on the pair. The center channel has an xover I built with BC parts and seems to be slightly cleaner sounding then my chorus speakers. Only reason I can think it might be cleaner is because of the new BC inductors. Maybe one of the xover guys will step in.

That's the wrong woofer for a Chorus II cabinet as well, looks like someone pulled a fast one on you and you have every right to be pissed! Hopefully the cabinets are nice and you got them for a good price, replacement parts can be found Klipsch started making the passives again for the forte III so they might sell you a pair. If I were you I'd pull both cabinets completely apart and inspect all the drivers to make sure they are correct.

Might want to look at the crossovers while your in there.

Thanks! According to chart 100 watts output, just wondering if that's per channel. Was going to try my first vintage solid state this year but spend my budget on some new to me speakers. So looking for an inexpensive deal on one till I get to sell some of my old gear, was hoping this would be it but I don't think so. Some of the 70's Fisher gear has some good reviews, this piece little info so I think Iam going to pass. Thanks for your response it did help me to decide.

not trying to do a comparison thread here inside this thread, but since others also like to know, I believe it is an upgrade path suited for those that have tried and loved similar paths with their tweeters. The cost of the midrange upgrade is substantially greater due to the added complexity to the crossover. You can expect similar results in the midrange upgrade as is evident in the tweeter upgrade, and since midrange provides a large quantity of the source material, it is a very important decision to make before any changes are done. The cost can be obviously far more significant when doing multi channel as I have.

Thanks for the reply! The cost is a factor(160.00 for ti mid diaphragms)sorry did not mean to step on your thread just looking for some real world experience on this upgrade. Again thanks and I am done.

As far as upgrades lascala's in front would be the next step up. Don't remember if you posted a sub with that set up, if not 2 nice subs might be something to look at/trade for. Size shape of your room and preferrence of music over HT can help with which upgrades to go with. If you decide to a 7.2 some heresy II's or kp 250's would work nice for sides with your speakers. Could trade quartets towards 1 or  2 pair of heresy's II, 250's for a smaller foot print.

Could trade everything for a nice 2 channel set up, lots of ways to go. It would help to know which direction you want to go, 5. or 7. set up, atmos ? Pair of lascala's with a nice sub and a mac!

That's all I did. The 128013 were very sharp for live work. They are not as warm as my 250s but now there clean and clear and balanced enough to perform with. Hope that helps. I think that a crossover change would be the trick to get the 250s sound but there pricey for sure.

Not sure if you got my message so I wanted to thank you for sending 250II xover diagram! Don't know where you found it but it will save from opening up one of my speakers!
