I've used both caps but in different speakers and felt they were both excellent. Since you already have the kits and plan on using both sets of speakers in the same room I'd probably rebuild both with the Crites kits just to keep them the same. I ran the same set up (Chorus II up front, I's for rears) for a short time and it was a pretty incredible set up. I have to say after comparing the I's and II's side by side I felt they really sounded more similar than different, I mean the II's weren't run away better as everyone would seems to believe. Sure, the II's hit slightly lower bass but everything else sounded very close to even. Very nice set up1, congrats!

OK 1 vote to change out to crites. I have not listen to the 2s yet but I like the 1s, tight snappy bass. I put 4 by 7 inch tubes in the ports clicked the bass up to 6db and sounds good to me. Not a real low bass but fast and blends in good with the mids and tweets

Did you run any side speakers with that set Up? I have a pair of kp 250s I am going to try but not sure if I will need them.

I've tested a dozen of expensive caps during the years. from Mundorf and Jantzen, Sonicap, Dayton, Duelund, Audyn, V-Cap, Clarity Cap, Auricap and some other general caps like Wima, Rifa, Erose, Epcos, Nichicon, Rubycon ... you name it. Sonicaps and Jantzen Superior Z-Cap are my favorites. I would not spend big money on caps anymore. even Jantzen Crosscap which is a pretty cheap caps sounds damn good. if I want something a little more expensive I would chose Sonicaps or Superior Z-cap.

    just my two cents

I purchased 2 kits from Bob, 1 for my chorus 1 and 1 for chorus 2. Did not know the 2s where already done, would sonicaps be better then the Dayton caps? I know the 1 and 2s will sound difference  but do you think the different caps will make a noticable difference. The 2 s will be my mains and the 1s will be rear surrounds about 18 ft apart.

What made you want to rebuild them in the first place?   Did they sound bad?

Have not  listen to them since I bought them. Was told the tweeters were upgraded with Bob crites tt but did not know about the xovers. Speakers are old and do not want to have to mess with them down the road.

Also , how did you come up with the kappa 15 as a replacement for the k-48? The stock woofer in the Chorus is 4ohms, isn't the kappa an 8ohm driver?

There are different versions of the kappa, the c is 4 ohm. Researched best I could but still kind of hit and miss as for a perfect match, the c seemed closest.

Feet might work but just build a TV console with room for my Academy center. Was planing on doing this center much later but when looking for an sw 12 II some how a k 61 and couple of k 79 pop into my cart. Feet might be the way to go might have to tear apart, re design the TV console. Still open to other suggestions. Thanks!

  5. Building a chorus center channel to go with my chorus 2, using a kappa c 15,  k 61,  and k79. Problem is I can not get the mid and tweeter on the same level as the mains or the TV will be to high. If build a box with an slghtly angled motherboard how would effect the sound. Do you think it would be better not to angle the mid and Tweet?

The center channel tweeter will be about 2 inches below the 2 main speakers mid range, speakers will be appox 10 feet from sofa. So thoughts on an angled motherboard or straight?

    Thanks!

Thanks for all the answers, for now I am not going to mess with the mids . Tweeters and xovers should be good once I get them upgraded. I bought some watco oil to put on  the cabinets and rope caulk to go on the horns. I will have to work with the single sw sub for now, first experience it did not fill up the room (appox.12 x18 x 9.) I really did not set it up right so I will have take more time to get it right. (Still going to look for a deal on another one) Read pros and con about bracing the cabinets but for now decided not too.

For side speakers  I have 1 kp250 and 1 kp250 II. I bought 2 k 79 tweeters one for the center channel and one will go in the kp 250 II so all speakers will have k 79 tweeters. When I replace the k 79 what can I use to seal the tweeter? I do have a coffee table sub box I,ve been working but that is taking a back seat till I get the rest of the system up and running.

So any other comments suggestions, am I missing anything?

I put titanium midrange diaphragms in my Forte I.  They gave me better definition and soundstaging, but I noticed harshness and fuzziness on some songs.  That disappeared when I installed a low pass filter to recreate the phenolic diaphragm's natural roll-off at the top end.  For me it was worth it but some people don't care for the titanium sound.

The harshness came after the tt Upgrade? Did you design the low pass filter for your fortes?

You mean besides being 25-35 years old?

The Crites kits should come with all the parts you need and instructions. I'd recommend buying the titanium tweeter diaphragms as well and you should be good.

The 2,s I bought about a month ago and already have the tt upgrade, I have a set coming from Bob  for the 1,s.. In the process of building a chorus 1.5 center.channel, I have a k 79 tweeter, k 61 mid, and new kappa c 15 inch. Bob is sending me a half chorus 2 crossover repair kit to build an xover for center channel. Still have to order the inductors and such from parts express. Also been looking for a klipsch 12 sw II in oak, I have one would like another and have a matching pair.

The tt upgrade is for the tweeters only, read where some people do not like tt upgrade on the mids? Would it be worth it to replace mid  diaphragms with original?  Is there a way to tell if they need replacing?

    What's wrong with the crossovers?

Just figured they are getting old and want to try and have a trouble free system, fix and repair any problems. Was wondering what you guys used on your oak veneer,  best favorite product. Read where these cabinets could have leaks? How would I go about finding and fixing,, leaks usually around speaker connection? Lining cabinet with poly or some other material? Any other upgrades or suggestion to improve the looks or sound of the speakers. Thanks!

  10. I have crossover repair kits coming from Bob crites for my chorus 1 and 2s. What shoud I look at, repair with the speakers out. Please be specific, with product names and pic are always nice. I would like to get everything I need before the repair kits get here so down time will be short. Thanks!

  11. Looking for a k 79 replacement tweeter, would one of bob crites work and which one. Is there one that best matches the sound of the k 79 .

My ht system is chorus II fronts with crites tweeter ti upgrade. Chorus I rears and 1 kp 250 and 1 kp 250II sides. Since I can,t find k 79 for the kp speakers I am thinks new crites tweeters for the chorus II, chorus II tweeters would go in the chorus 1s and chorus 1 tweeters would go in kp,s?  Anyone have any experience using crites tweets and how they match up to the k 79.

    Thanks

Anyone ever heard of them? Looked for info/reviews on the net with no luck, model Ea amp 2d

I found this model at goodwill, powers up  unforunately I only get a hum out of it when hooked up. The red indicator lights don,t turn blue like they should or move down the scale. Have not look inside yet, guessing output chips. Would it be worth fixing? What would be a reasonable cost for repair. Thanks!

Totally off topic - sorry But it is a Klipsch center (I hope).

I have this insane 10" X 2 and tractrix in the middle speaker without a model number I can see.

Hoping it will work with my Khorns. Can someone identify what it is ? Did Klipsch make a 10" woofer center.

    Thanks.

    Srinath.

Dug up an old sony AVR to take along if this goes through. Feels weird lugging speaker wires and an amp to check them out but who knows, they may be great. Not sure how to judge an FM signal and I'll be damned if I'll also lug a DVD payer as well.  Recently bought an Academy from a guy who took the time to set them up in his home theatre room (he had a pair). I was able to play several DVDs through them under the best listening conditions. The circumstances with these Chorus speakers are not quite as perfect.

You will need to look on the back of your sony to see what type of connection you have for fm. Taking a dvd may be the best way to go, you can test with the kind of music you like. Imo if there in good shape it will be worth it.

Thanks for your replies. I'll check them out. According to the seller, they are not able to be hooked up for a listen so I'm hard pressed to figure out a way to hear them.

Good price, sounds fishy. Offer to bring a reciever to test them with. If you dont have one you could get a cheap stereo at goodwill/yard sale to test them with.

Sounds like an academy, 2 8 inch woofers and a k 76 horn tweeter.

Sorry it is a bitmap and must be clicked, it's Sunday and my brain is no longer functioning properly and I can't make a picture save right anymore :)

No problem thanks for the help!. I am going to try an 8 cu ft box for now and see how it does. Down the road once when my truck is fixed and have more funds maybe I wiil try an ultimax. Thanks again!

  18. Thanks racebum, for mobililty I really don,t want go over 8 cu ft. so I guess its 8cu ft  sealed and stuffed to the max.

Looking at the chart again I guess 8 cu ft is not going to change the plot much. Maybe gtc of 1. might? I am guessing not. For now I have to live with this sub down the road may be I can try something different. I was looking at the dayton ultimax 15 before my work truck broke down

, in the future may be.

If you can link to the manufacturer's page with the complete T/S parameters I would be happy to model in WinISD.  I don't think that is enough data for modelling as

Would it be possible to chart 8cu ft sealed with above gtc and at 1.. Hope my editing has not caused any problems, thanks.
