  1. If they sound good enough to replace those terrible old Heresy's you've got, let me know as I could probably take them off your hands. LoL

Seriously, I realize you've got a lot of time & effort in this project but whenever there's time to get that BOM posted I'm sure several here would find it invaluable.

    Thanks

  2.

This popped up a while back and I just recently really looked at it.

    https://anchorage.craigslist.org/ele/d/klipsch-oak-speakers/6694230660.html

Contacted the seller & informed them that this wasn't a KG-4.  Obviously by the picture & dimensions it's a Quartet but the KG-1 binding cup is very concerning.

They are lost.  Someone told them it was a KG-4.  Hope they aren't using that KG-1 binding cup with the KG-1 X/O.  😮

Try simplyspeakers.com, then select speaker grills in the category list. These seem to be a pretty popular option and there are two types of fasteners to choose from. The biggest drawback is that using their attachment kits requires drilling holes around the perimeter of the passive. Which may or may not be a big deal to you.

@Skichuck77  Thanks.  Added hurricane nuts & stainless allen head screws to drivers so drilling around passives isn't an issue. I'll check them out.

  4. Wanting to protect my KG4 PR's from prying Italian Greyhound noses & other possible issues when they are moved around.  Finally found the time to upgrade the X/O's and tweets, amazing difference in SQ and imaging.  Also trying to negotiate for a pair of Quartets on CL & will want to protect those too. Tried searching older threads for an answer but couldn't find much on it.    Wondered about some 12' automotive sub woofer grills but not sure where to source them.  Anyone have any 'ingenious' & attractive options?

I am really surprised to hear this disappointment in the Heritage Bar... the drivers and all components look to be quality pieces.

Something must have been wrong... how did you have it hooked up? Did you re-run any room correction processing?

    What size is that bar?

Yes, I agree.  Ran the Sony DA1800ES room EQ.  Probably not the best EQ but has always made a noticeable difference in the past.  Also connected two channels up straight to my Carver M1.01 & M200t amps fed with a digital signal from my Cambridge 851N.  Again, clear & crisp but diminutive sound with no presence or authority.

Man i heard this thing down in hope at Klipsch factory. Along with a pair of the ultra surrounds a Klipsch 12” sub i thought it sounded rather good for its size. However expectations play a lot of ones brain. I walked in to listen to something tiny and expensive and had low expectations. Was rather blown away by it. Had i paid 2200 for it and hooked it up at home i might have sent it back as well.

Thinking something was wrong with mine.  No distortion, clear & detailed but no mid range volume, very directional with a narrow band of detail in that if your  listening height / location changed more than a few inches the SQ deteriorated immediately.  I'm a firm proponent of sub's but I better be more impressed with the stand alone sound of a $2k+ speaker than the beautiful finish.  In this case I wasn't.  Set my pair of 1990 KG1's with Crites rebuilt x/o's & Ti diaphragms in place of the sound bar and it was a night & day difference. Love the brand just not this particular speaker.  Hope it was a one off issue.

That is unfortunate. I would have expected it to excel with midrange. A lot of sound bar type speakers use smaller drivers. They generally all require a sub.

I have a RW10 for the sub and used it.  Sound was hollow and disconnected without it.  I realize it's a very small enclosure but my Polk 5 channel surround bar sounds so much fuller & lifelike.  Hooked the bar up directly to my Carver M1.0t thinking the Sony DA188ES Receiver might be the issue.  Still sounded like a pair of Bose Cubes to me.  Maybe it's defective.  Called Crut......d. & explained my problem, they said send it back.  Have always been satisfied with their customer service.  Already noticed that they have a returned & refurbished one for sale on their site.  Should have known better to wait until the reviews were available.

Wow it looks great. If it sounds as good as it looks they will sell a boatload of them. There is a large market of people looking for quality sound with minimal aesthetic impacts on their rooms.

Listened to it for 2 weeks.  Packed it up and sent it back.  Crystal clear highs, little mid range & no low end what so ever.  Beautiful speaker but highly over priced for $2200.  Really disappointed.  Wanted so bad to love it but my 2 KG1's for $50 sounded better in the same place.  😐

Hello iaRIVR  - greetings from across the river in Edina!  I've been enjoying 4 stacked KG4's for years!

Difficult 2Ω load, I use ADCOM.  Stacking widens horizontal, narrows vertical. Mutual damping, +3dB

stacking gain, lower distortion, less gain compression. Amazing, 4X the performance for 2X the price.

Let me know when you would like to recalibrate your ears!  I would attach photos, but the server chokes.

Sorry to Hijack the thread but would like to learn more about your 'stacking' experience.  Have 1 pair of KG4's & looking at a 2nd pair for stacking.  Stacking identical speakers is fascinating to me.  Makes perfect sense but know there are negative effects also.  With their built in stands I suppose you aren't inverting the top one are you?  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks

I use a QNAP TS-219P II I'm sure they have updated 2-bay units by now, but this does everything I need flawlessly. I've got two 3TB drive in a RAID 1 configuration which is the two drives mirrored. If you are new to this don't make the mistake in thinking RAID is backup. I also back up all my precious music and pictures to a 4TB USB drive I keep in a fire proof safe. I've been thinking of keeping it in my detached garage as I doubt my house and garage would burn down at the same time. Still there are Tornados/Hurricanes/Floods. Ripping all those CDs is a pain.

I have had one of my RAID drives fail in about 4-5 years of use.

Are you saying a RAID 1 single bay is not a backup?   I think I understand that a multi-bay drive can mirror the back up and a single bay can't ??

  11. Decided to pull the trigger on the Cambridge 851D. Can't stand having my Iphone tied up when streaming my playlists or Spotify anymore. All reviews were pretty positive & they seem to be out of stock everywhere (hoping that is a good thing). Have one on back order from Cru...field. Still need to figure out the stand alone NAS issue. Something other than memory sticks. Need to have a solid storage media apart from any laptop etc. Anyone chime in with experience in this matter? Looking for just a couple Terabits of storage. And simplicity is key because I'm not digitally talented. :)

  12. Well, it's ordered in Walnut.  The living room remodel has gotten to the point where a decision had to be made.  Would have much preferred a pair of H3's and they'd of been cheaper,  but on wall or in wall were the only options provided by the Boss.  No wall space on the sides & Architectural speakers would only have fit above or below TV area & stud location screwed up symmetrical layout.  Really, really hope I'm not making a mistake spending $2200 for a 'Bar'.  Can't find any  actual reviews.  Even Youtube only had one review in German or some other language that didn't help any.  This thing better rock or I'm going to sink like one. Now I'm wondering if I should consider the RP-402S Surround Sound Speakers instead of using my KG-1's.  The RP-402S don't seem to be available yet.

  13. Only refreshing this thread because I'm at the threshold of ordering the Heritage Theater Bar due to my wifes' insistence that I come up with an acceptable solution to floor speakers in front of the Flat Screen.  Does anyone out there have this yet or heard it??  Really want to order it.   Know it's really new and must be a great Klipsch product but can't find any reviews out there for it.

    Gday Tom,

Being a "sparkie" you're already ahead of the game mate! I just operate a keyboard for a living so those lpads will be a breeze for you.

Really glad you've found some value there, that was 90% of the objective of posting my experience. I got 99% of my ideas from fragments others had scattered around the web. Thought I'd bring all that together into one fulsome KG 5.5 thread. I won't deny the balance was probably just an opportunity for a little self promotion 😂 !

Hope you make it down-under soon and if you do make it this far you must get over the ditch to NZ, fair dinkum its God's own country our Kiwi cousins have over there.

    Cheers,

    Maz.

Thanks for that.  I frequent this forum, the Polk Audio forum & the Carversite mainly and find all of these to be extremely informative & entertaining.  The knowledge & experience of these sites is quite wide spread and everyone is quick to help with all issues.  And a little 'self-promotion' on your part is well deserved.👍

As soon as I hit submit on the last post it dawned on me that it might be taken as somewhat derogatory, which I certainly didn't intend.  Have always appreciated the different geographical 'language inflections' & variations. Glad you took it that way.  My wife worked with an 'Aussei' for several years who was married to a 'Kiwi'.  It would be a shame to make it all the way to 'Down Under' & not  also enjoy the 'God Zone' also !
