On most of the time, but there are times when the mood strikes me and off they come.

This is a very strange issue.
But as for shorting the speaker terminals – that in itself will not hurt the speakers in any way. The concern would be that if the “shorting wires” were left on when the amp is powered up of course.

the new Klipsch part #1067961 came in lately , this woofer replaces the K31 for the Jubilee twin 12 inch - it also fits the KLF-30
Thanks for the part number, maybe I will have better luck with it.

the new version of the k31 woofer ------for the KLF 30 should be available at klipsch parts since it's used in the 2020 Jubilee -
I did inquire about six months ago pointing out that very thing and they told me that there wasn't a woofer available for the klf-30s.

Virtually all of the KLF and as I understand the same for the CF lines parts are no longer available.

try and reach klipsch tech support -------
Yep. What is there to lose for trying?

If I were to punt, I would go with a pair of forte II's as a great starting point. If you look at the KG line (4.x or 5.x) you should expect to pay under $400/pr. Anything more and you could get a much better speaker for that kind of money.

Where do you live? What kind of music do you like?
If at all possible try to listen to a few different models before hand, maybe a member or two could let you let your ears steer you towards what you like in a speaker. -
That stuff just happens sometimes. I have had my share of slip-ups too.
-
PWK had a rather complex circuit design to build decades ago for this - maybe a member here has this info to share. Otherwise you would need a system that has an actual center channel output. You will not be able to make a two channel system accept a center channel as is.

This xover looks to be an exact clone of my 2nd xover build. It was for a set of T5000s and to go through such detail as to use 16ga buss wire for the common negative “spine” down the middle. The Solen paralleled 1.0 & .22 uF caps for the mids and even the same wrong (backward) wiring of the tweeter wires.
I am flattered for someone to copy it so accurately.

Exactly what i was going to post..... forte woofers dont handle the power a chorus woofer does & many people have reported blowing them, a pop indicates they are being driven too hard, back off on the volume unless you want to replace the woofers soon too!
Might a “bad” NPE exasperate this?

There are many options that you can take, but this can be one of those hotly debated topics.
The recently touted JEM 'Klipsch approved' caps that will keep your Klipsch speakers all Klipsch. Then there is the entry level class of Dayton, Solen & Audyn Q4s, Crites offerings and then there are the high end caps that can go into hundreds of $$$ too.

One more time.....you HAVE to look at the network as a system. It provides a voltage transfer curve to the drivers in order to maintain the original frequency response curve. Changing a component of the system requires that the voltage transfer curve be checked. If it has changed then the original intent of the frequency response curve has changed and would require that the value of other components , including the cap be changed in order to get the original voltage transfer curve. Changing caps arbitrarily without checking the voltage curve is like equalization. Of course some caps are better for audio signals but once the choice is made For the cap and other components and the network is designed around those components that give the desired voltage transfer curve, changing one of those at random will NOT guarantee that you have the correct voltage curve.
I am genuinely curious about this. What is the “voltage transfer curve “ in a polyester cap that differs from other types of caps? What I mean is is it faster/slower, more linear or logarithmic or something else? If it were to be plotted what might one expect to see different over other types of capacitors?
I want to clarify, I am asking here in general and not looking for a lengthy drawn out technical post explanation of this.

So those yellow capacitors used on all the newer Klipsch models are going to be Klipsch approved even for the Epic CF-3, and CF-4 series and matching KV-4 center? These seem so different to the heritage products. Do the caps on the CF-3/4 even need to be replaced? Do they go out of spec like the heritage caps?
Capacitors do have a finite lifespan.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWhat was the price for the AA kit if you don't mind me asking.

I can relate to your wanting a center channel. Having a matching center for a set of klf-30s (klf-c7) and then trying to listen with a pair of LaScalas without a center I find it sorely lacking. Bad enough that I will keep the klf setup dedicated to HT duty since there is no chance of being able to use a full size speaker in that position.

What model speaker could have a lot to do with what you may or may not be able to get with out a ser#. -
My klf-30s sound very good in my house in North Carolina but when I brought them down to the Florida house they sound quite a bit better to my surprise. I guess the point I am trying to make is where you have your speaks can greatly effect how they might sound. The two rooms these speakers are/were in are very different even though the overall cubic volume of space were similar.
And yes, all of the same electronic gear was also moved to the new location.

Aside from physical damage - caps would be the only thing that you may want to update/refresh.

brooks, are you calling the la scalas, cheap beer and hotdogs?
No Scott, just using a metaphor so don't get your knickers twisted. Thinking we should be taking small(er) steps at a time so as to better learn as we go.

That is all I use, but there will be others that may demand boutique type solder with things like high silver content.

We can work on polluting your process...
If you're doing any driving north/south, I'm right off I-75 and have a K510 & DX-38 you can borrow to play around with. Once you hear that side by side with the stock..... you're going to be facing your dark side wondering if that door should be opened or not.... (it won't be as easy once you hear it)
(Luke..... come and feel the power of the dark side.....)
Thanks for the offer, at some point we might take you up on that. But to jump up to that level out of the gate could easily pollute our efferts.
Once you taste the proverbial champagne & caviar it is hard to go back to cheap beer & hotdogs.

For updating the crossovers with new capacitors , the KLIPSCH
genuineparts are available from JEM and they do not cost more than aftermarkets , these original parts do not change the sound of the Lascala at all while aftermarkets will because they are not of identical specs to the older capacitors
