  1. SO...JC- Ya want em or what?? KEV- in 24hrs- they're yours if JC doesnt belly up to the ol' bar..ok?
  2. OH YEAH.."HOW DO THEY SOUND"?? --overall "pretty damn good"- I still think the Chorus Is are alittle smoother and image a little more but the CWs have more "girth" and sheer dynamics. The CWs are alittle harsher in the upper mids than the Chorus 1s and dont seem to show as much low level detail. I just ordered the ALKs so that will help alot I hope. These have the K-77, K-57,and K-33E w/ a B3 network. I think overall I will probably end up LOVING them but- as is- I still miss some things about the Chorus. I guess thats why we all have or want "multiple" Klipsch systems !!
  3. REMEMBER..My wife -AT FIRST- didnt like the LaScalas but grew to LOVE them. Sound is the most important thing to her as well. Remember - she's a musician ( she fronts SparkleDrive and is also a helluva guitar player !!). When she saw the Cornwalls- what did she say? "THOSE ROCK !!!" ( nice, huh? )She is the coolest wife any music lover could ask for and EVERYDAY asks me to pour her a big glass of Zinfandel and put on some vinyl.(again, nice huh?) But when given a choice she thought the black grilles were more "rockin'" and the tweed grilles reminded her of "grampa's house". So there ya go !! She wanted more "rock"- less "grampa"
  4. My experience has been that LARGELY the Japanese pressings are very good but NOT always. Often ,the country the artist is from is often the best ( as in the 1st release) An example would be Pink Floyd "animals"..I have a Holland pressing, one from Germany, one from Japan, and 2 US copies and BY FAR the best is the original UK release. Same holds true for the original John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers w/ Clapton. The Original UK release sounds better than the MFSL copy (Mobile Fidelity) !!...my 2 cents
  5. HERE THEY ARE!! ..I'm pretty sure these arent "cane" but are more "tweed" looking. I actually really liked them but Val really liked black ALOT better so we'll keep those and sell these. Lemme know if these interest you. $100 and we'll split shipping ( which should be 8-10 bucks)...as they say "klipsch out"....
  6. I just bought my 1st set of Cornwall 1s and they came w/ an extra set of grilles that I wont need. I'd like to sell them to make up some of the cost of the CWs. These are the "tweed" vintage looking ones from the late 70s. Kinda black / brown weave. I like these better but the wife really likes the basic black. So what are these worth. They are in nice shape !! I'd like $100..Is that fair ?? Please lemme know
  7. I have a quick question..I'm just hooking up my 299 for the first time and I'm not sure about the spk terminals. There are "0"s which I assume is ground and then 4 and 16 ohm taps but the 8 ohm tap has some jumper wire going BACK INSIDE the scott chassis. Looks totally stock so I'm sure there is some simple thing. Do I just put my spade on that SAME 8 ohm tap?? And what's it for ?? I'll be using Chorus Is today but TOMMORROW I GET CORNWALLS !!!!!!!! WHHHHOOOOOPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE This message has been edited by DANOCASTER on 08-18-2002 at 01:49 PM
  8. I agree..You decide..that said the preamp pretty nice for cheap..I bought mine used for $150 and it has a nice phono section..definitely use the "bypass" outputs !!
  9. Actually what you heard was "sorta" tubes. I sell the Musical Fidelity NuVista integrated amp and it IS VERY VERY good. BUT,and its a big butt,it's really a "hybrid" amp. A Solid State pwr amp w/ a very smooth SS preamp that utilizes 2 military tubes called "NuVistors" at the preamp's output. The gain is all SS and the Power section is completely solid state. That said, I own this piece and it indeed sounds incredible!! But its not what most on this BB would consider "tubes on Klipsch". Tube power is a whole different ballgame. But people who disregard all SS as sounding SS have never heard the Musical Fidelity stuff. Even their all SS sounds more "tubey" than alot of tube stuff. Leagues more tubey than my Jolida tube amp ever sounded!! This message has been edited by DANOCASTER on 08-16-2002 at 06:11 PM
  10. WELL....The CWs in ATLANTA are off for me. They are supposedly "super clean" w/ risers but the guy knows what he has and wants $1000 for the pair. The other pair I should have more info soon hopefully tommorrow. I pick mine up Monday in Memphis !!
  11. I believe ,although Columbia Records still has control of it, you can hear MP3 samples at SPARKLEDRIVE.com.!!. as they say "Klipsch out"
  12. Thanks Mike !! I'll run a "klipsch special" for those on this board .. 2 cds for that price !! I'll send you 2 .. 1 to give away to someone who you think may like it !!
  13. Hi guys and IndyKlispchFan..thanks for the kind words. For Mike (and any interested others) I'll sell the cds for $7 shipped ($5+$2 s/h). You can Paypal it (sparkledrive1@aol) or send me MO/check/cash whatever (Dan Strain 509 Ashlawn Circle, Nashville TN 37211)... OK OK..enuff self promotion (sorry..I know it looks bad)..........Anyway, I'm still waiting on further info on Both pairs of cornwalls and will let everyone as soon as I find something out. My friend w/a Jeep just bailed on picking up the CWs monday so i gotta scramble and find something. I cant wait to hear Cornwalls in my system !!
  14. OK Guys.... Well I spread the word that I was looking for Cornwalls and "when it rains ,it pours". I found myself a pair- which I'm picking up in Memphis on Monday. But today- I got 2 calls saying they had cornwalls for me !! One is in Atlanta ( Raw Birch, with risers) and the other is in a friend's garage in Missouri under a blanket. Still waitng on details and prices but I've already given a deposit on mine so...anyone want some cornwalls?? I'll try and get more details and re-post. I bet the Missouri ones will be CHEAP !! Too bad it 7-8 hrs from me !!
  15. NO...NILES makes a lil box that is an A/B switch w/ a ground terminal..sells for about $40..we carry them..lemme know if you need one..they work great !!
  16. I was about to post a very clean one w/ a $250 reserve on ebay. If you are intersted lemme know, and I'll take some pics. email me Sparkledrive1@aol.com
  17. Hey dndphishin- The Rega radio ( which I sell ) is VERY good. Every client who has tried one has been VERY happy- both w/ its sound and its ability to pull in stations well. However- some of the older tuners still rival just about anything !! And Danny- IMO the Audioquest stuff is a little too brite compared to better Kimber Kable or something. But if you want , I have a bunch of AQ type 4 I will GIVE you when you pick up the LaScalas !!
  18. Good !! so it worked !! that was the effect i hoped for
  19. SORRY CRAIG, he offered more so I'm sending your check back to you....just kidding- He's buying the 2nd pair.
  20. If I sell it, I'd want $225 or so ( which is what I paid for it ). It's VERY clean.
  21. You are SO right !! Ok Craig, that was on your word about the phono section !! I'm sure its nice. I may just sell that Eico ST-70 now..Or maybe wait and have you tweak alittle and do a shootout..Hmmm..AND TALK ABOUT A SCORE....There is an extremely strong possibility that I'll be picking up a pair of oiled walnut K-Horns for...ready for this??... $800 !! w/ original cartons, etc...I should find out this weekend probably..WOO - FRICKIN"- HOO !!!!!!
  22. Actually, the CHORUS is what I listen to the most- simply b/c of where they are. The bigger spks have to go downstairs and so arent used as often. I just think I may really like Cornballs b/c I love the Chorus................BUT....SPEAKING OF DEALS...I have a lead on a pair of horns - so cheap you'd laugh. If that happens- I'll need to sell these LaScalas(the latest Raw Birch pair from '76)fast. But I'd like to get $500 outta them... any takers??
  23. Can anyone tell me the basic differences between the CHORUS I and the CORNWALL??. I've been told that the Chorus Is are basically the same thing- but in a smaller cabinet to help consumer appeal. Yet the CW is so much more sought after. The spk layout is the same isnt it ? Crossover differences ?? If you can, please lemme know.. This message has been edited by DANOCASTER on 08-01-2002 at 08:44 PM
