  1. OK...thanks for the info everyone. It doesn't sound like I would be hurting anything by doing this.
  2. Because (so I've read) of the 3-6dB gain over a single input connection. [Y]
  3. I know that a lot of people recommend splitting the cable from the Receiver Pre-out and connecting to both the right and left input on the sub. I have also read that you shouldn't do it if the manufacturer recommends against it. Does Klipsch frown upon the practice with their subs?
  4. Just one more question. Is there any other effect on sound other than LFE by setting a speaker to "Small"? Being that these KG-4.5's are rather large in size and definitely not bookshelf-size, I feel a bit strange setting them to "Small". Thanks.
  5. Great.....and thanks! [Y] ez
  6. I just bought the RSW-10d. I read on another forum that, if you control the sub's crossover from within the receiver, you should adjust your sub's settings to a higher level. So, if my receiver is set at 80Hz for the sub, then I would set the controls on the sub at 120Hz. As I understand it, this would allow the sub's crossover to be controlled by the receiver. I also have a question: I have some large older KG-4.5's for my fronts. Should I set those to Large or Small in the receiver? I am a bit confused by the Yamaha directions . Thanks much.
  7. Actually, it's in transit to me so I haven't received it yet. I was just doing a bit of reading on the subject and came across the reference to hum. I think(?) it was the BlueJean.com website, but don't hold me to that. Anyway, I'm anxious to get it set-up to see how it plays with my other components. [] Thanks for the reply, Islander.
  8. A just bought my first sub, the RSW-10d, due to a great price and have been trying to educate myself on the correct way to connect it to my receiver. My receiver has a single Pre-Out for the sub. I see that the RSW has a Right and a Left connection and have read that I can connect the cable from my Pre-Out to the Left connector on the sub. However, I have also read that there can be advantages (decreased hum, increased dB, etc.) if I use a Y-cable to allow the cable from the Receiver to be split to both the Right and Left connections on the sub. Can you more knowledgeable Klipsch people please shed some light on the subject for me? Thanks much. ez
  9. I'm have a pair of Klipsch RB-61's and want to put them on stands. I can't find anything that looks suitable due to the speaker weight(22lbs.) and my height requirement(48" +/-). I will be using them for rear surrounds. Can anybody recommend a good stand for my needs? Thanks much.
  10. Thanks for the input, Veyron. [] I finally decided to solve my dilemma by moving everything to the finished basement where I'll have plenty of space for speaker placement. I auditioned these speakers the other day and really liked what I heard. I also found them at Vann's for a good price....so it won't be long before they're "singing for papa". ez
  11. When I get my new RF-82's for the Fronts, I was thinking of moving my existing KG-4.5's to the back as my surrounds. Those are fairly big speakers for use as a surround but I have read where other people use the same type of set-up. So, is there anything I should do or be aware of when I set those big KG's up to the rear?
  12. I didn't mention in my original post that I don't have a Sub, so everything will be going to my 5.0 set-up. I'm also trying to stay with the floor standing fronts. If I can't play the 82's in my current location I just might have to move everything to the basement and set up a little HT room. Hmmmm....[]. Thanks for the ideas, though. ez
  13. After years of being out of the speaker marketplace, I'm looking to upgrade my current set-up and want to purchase the RF-82's. However, I have a question concerning their placement against the wall. These speakers are rear-ported, and being that I am a bit limited on space, my question concerns how close they can be to the wall. I can place them no more than 7-inches from the wall in my current HT room, but the dealer recommends about 12-inches or they will get "boomy". Of those who have the 82's, what kind of spacing do you have and do you feel that 7-inches is too close? Thanks.
  14. westside: People will usually only go to a BB if there are problems with the product. I read the lack of heavy activity here to mean there just aren't a heck of a lot of people having problems with the 4.1's. Understand that there are some people with defects, and that is to be expected. A lack of "heavy" activity is a good sign.
  15. mssheepy: I've had my 4.1's for a little over a month myself and I have to agree! They are one sweet set of speakers and blow me away in NR2002. Only thing with that is that Sierra needs to update the sound files in the upcoming patch to eliminate the static at high RPM's. Happy driving to ya!! 16. I read on a thread somewhere at this site about some "Klipsch recommended settings" for your mixer. It was just a passing reference to the subject, such as setting bass to 50%, but I would be interested in more details if they are available. Thanks.
  17. I'm playing around with different speaker/woofer placement schemes and have a question. The most promising scheme I have requires an extension for the front and rear cables which run from the controller satelite to the sound card. I have the Audigy card so there is a seperate front and rear output on the card. My question is this....do I need a stereo extension cable to run from the satelite to the soundcard? I have seen both stereo and non-stereo extensions at Radio Shack and Best Buy. My opinion is I need the stereo, but thought I'd run it up the flagpole with the people who know. Thanks.
  18. Same here. Just got the 4.1 Monster set and I don't know if it's me or not, but they do sound clearer. Played a game of Wolfenstein and the sounds AND background music are sooooo much sweeter! I'm a satisfied customer. I only wish these came 'standard' with the speaker package. This message has been edited by ezdriver on 03-19-2002 at 05:10 PM
  19. I've heard reports that the bass is just TOOOO overpowering and sounds somewhat sloppy. Also reports of the sub being a bit distorted due to vibrations within the port itself. I haven't heard them myself, however, I have no complaints with my Klipsch 4.1's.
  20. Generally speaking, when it comes to music, one side will be stronger that the other side. That gives you the stereo seperation effect.
  21. Hi. I'm a new owner of the 4.1's and have a question about the safe placement of the subwoofer. I previously had a fairly weak speaker system and could place the sub right next to my tower case. This would help to get it out of the way of my big feet. Anyway, I'm a bit concerned now that I have the 4.1 series. It is obviously a very strong sub and has a pretty hefty magnetic field (I assume the sub is not shielded). My concern is if I place the sub too close to my case, could it have an effect on the hard drive? What is a good 'safe' rule-of-thumb distance I should use to insure that no possible data corruption occurs? Or am I totally off-base with this question? Thanks, all, I really enjoy this forum....very informative. This message has been edited by ezdriver on 02-25-2002 at 09:41 AM
