  1. "The other has been rebuilt non the top part with 1/2" plywood instead of 3/4"plywwod making it about two inches shorter plus has some generic horn and no crossover it has huge capicator."

It's impossible to give a concise and/or useful response without more information. Such as, what would you pay?|

Also, it's not clear what was done to "the other." The value of the "original" one is probably greater if left original. What woofers do they have? There's a market for the composite horn, and original drivers, but I'd rather see the one that's still whole, stay that way.

  2. Not bad for an amateur?

In this case, "amateur" applies in the truest sense of the word. While it is often taken to mean the opposite of professional, it actually means "lover of" or one who does something for the love of it, not for money. It's absurd to think that someone doing this only for money would do a more spectacular job than you did for the love of the project and the result.

What does your wife think of them now?

  3. I apologize profusely for not doing anything with these. The holidays came and went and lately I've been extremely busy forcing our small business to survive the current economy. I'll soon contact everyone who before expressed interest, in the order in which I was contacted. If you're no longer interested, it's completely understandable. Although you need not contact me again, feel free to send an email or PM, whether you're still interested, or not.

  4. " . . . my current H/K doesn't do a flip in powering the LSs. I can only "hear" them when it's cranked all the way up. And barely hear, that is...

That's surprising. La Scalas can peel paint with a few clean watts. I doubt it's the amount of power available that's the problem.

The old H/K receivers are not like the more recent H/K products. Other high quality receivers or amps could possibly work as well as, or better than, a vintage H/K x30 series receiver, but I only have personal experience with the vintage H/Ks.

  5. Welcome,

The following links are not to suggest that you should modify your La Scalas.

    Ported La Scalas? http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/616881/ShowPost.aspx

The La Scalas shown there were restored to enable the local high school band leader to replace a dead boom box to play music in the band practice room. I purchased a Harman Kardon 730 receiver on eBay so that he could have sufficient clean power to play the La Scalas loudly and clearly.

Any of the H/K x30 series Twin Power (a separate power transformer for each channel) receivers, if in good condition, would suffice. My personal preference would be a tube amp, but that's much more complicated than you need at this stage of the journey. Therefore, I suggest buying a good used H/K 430, 630, 730 or 930 receiver.

Try to enjoy the process as much as the result.

  6. That's a great deal. Please post some photos to make us feel even worse.

I saw a similar deal on American Pickers. Either Frank or Mike was bargaining for something (a microphone I think) and the seller threw in an excellent vintage H. H. Scott amp for next to nothing.

Your EV Patrician reminds me of the only time I met PWK. He was doing a demo of his 3 channel format hosted by The Stereo Shoppe at Long's Convention Center in Lansing, MI. It must have been the mid to late 70's.

After the very impressive demo, he was talking informally. The conversation, like his mind, went a mile a minute. One second he was talking about the economy (some things never change) and the next he was talking about his favorite single malt (I think) liquor.

I asked him about the erfforts of Klipsch to license the Klipschorn. He said that it was discontinued due to the inability of Klipsch to monitor the build quality of 3rd party builders, including EV.

He then asked, "Do you know what a Patrician is?" To which I naively replied, "It's a version of the Klipschorn built under license by Electro-Voice. He immediately responded, "It's a man who steps out of the shower to take a leak." It was clear that his entourage had heard the line before.

Then it was off to a new topic. The whole encounter lasted less than 60 seconds.
