  1. I missed that. Was the guy trying to sell Al K.'s furniture?

    It might have taken place during your time out. Al K posted this thread:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    misuse of my web site photos on eBay - HELP! http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/669051.aspx

    A fellow in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Kitchener, Ontario listed a pair of Klipsch La Belles [sic] on eBay and used the attached photo of Al Ks Belles in Als home without indicating that the photo did not depict the Patti La Belles he was purportedly selling. You would have enjoyed the bru ha ha, or should I say monkey business, that followed.

    EDIT: 4/28 @ 5:46 EDT. Just noticed this was 1,000th post! As ususal, the anticipation far exceeded the actual event.

  2. I must agree with Marius. From reading his post we do find out what kind of "person is Mr. George Wright." but we also find out what kind of person is Marius.

    This thread reminds me of listening to Dr. Laura on the radio (which I now avoid at all costs). One can't help but wonder why the callers didn't know that she would ream them a new bodily orifice. Did they never listen to her show; did Marius never read this forum? What could he have expected the reaction to be?

  3. It's interesting that you posted this. I just returned <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Elizabethtown to the local library without watching it. I guess I'll check it out again.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    My original interest was in the town itself. In 2003, I purchased a used Chevy Astro cargo van through eBay and flew to Dallas to take delivery. On the way home to Michigan the following occurred:

    · Locked myself in the back in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Texas; had to jimmy bulkhead door;

    · Drove around Hope looking for signs of Klipsch and the original tin-roofed telephone company/factory, without luck (testosterone prevented asking directions);

    · Encountered terrible ice storm in Kentucky;

    · Starter motor spontaneously engaged at 45 mph and burned up while driving in ice storm;

    · Got towed to Chevy dealer in E-Town shortly before closing time;

    · Service department called local parts store for starter motor and mechanic agreed to stay late to replace the starter;

    · Set out again at 9PM still in ice storm, but decided to turn around and spend the night in E-Town;

    · Starter motor again spontaneously engaged at 40 mph and burned up;

    · Again was towed to Chevy dealer in E-Town, this time at opening time;

    · Service dept. ordered another starter motor, and this time let the van run in the shop until the starter again spontaneously engaged, but was shut off before destroying itself;

    · The problem was traced to a defective neutral safety switch;

    · Chevy dealer replaced the switch, did not charge me for the 2nd starter motor and reimbursed me for 2nd tow;

    · Upon my return to Michigan, I called the Domino's Pizza store in E-Town and had them deliver pizza to the Chevy dealers service department;

    · Shortly thereafter the van was totaled by a woman talking on her cell phone who failed to note that her light had been red for approximately 15 seconds; and

    · No one was hurt and she was ticketed.

    I wonder if Ill recognize any of the local scenery.

  4. Stairway to Heaven is definitely a contender. When I ran my mobile DJ business in the mid-70s EVERY gig had to end with Stairway to Heaven.

    This is an interesting question, different from what annoying ear worms do you never want to hear again, e.g., anything by the Cowsills. Stairway... isn't a bad song, but enough already.

  5. Hi cyclonecj-

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    Its interesting that your larger spaces have La Scalas. Prior to assisting the local band director with the acquisition of La Scalas I posted the following in search of advice: Music playback in band room.

    http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/621550/ShowPost.aspx

    Someone had suggested a Bose surround-sound system costing several thousands of dollars. When he told me that the budget was $2,500, I nearly choked, prior to telling him that we could rock the house for half of that. After buying a pair of Cornwalls through a forum memberthe deal collapsed immediatelyI bought two of the four abused La Scalas referred to in the following thread: Four abused Lascalas need a good home sold, http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/616881/ShowPost.aspx

    It all worked out for the better. The La Scalas are better suited to the band room and the Cornwalls are better suited to their new owners home.

    How and where are your La Scalas located in the rooms? Does your band director feel a need for more bass? Im considering the Bass Reflex Mod For LaScala?

    http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/644842/ShowPost.aspx, but question the value as long as theyre perched on top of the lockers.

    Since the photo in the Four abused thread that shows the La Scala on the instrument lockers, Ive persuaded the director to allow me to angle the speakers toward the center and to elevate them in the back so that they fire down into the space, rather than over everyones head.

    Please pardon my curiosity, but if youre not the band director, whats your connection to the school? My connection to the local band is that of a parent of one former and one current band member who also wanted the band to have the best possible sound for the least amount of expenditure. At the very least, I wanted to spare the students from Bose.

  6. Oldbuckster and Colter, IMO, are correct. Clipping is the danger. You're more likely to get clipping from an underpowered amplifier that's being asked to deliver more than it can. Nevertheless, if you overdrive a high powered amplifier to the point of clipping you'll cause damage also. Intuitively, high powered clipping is more dangerous than low powered clipping.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    With efficient horn speakers there should not be any reason to drive even a moderately powered amplifier to the point of clipping. One of the benefits of tube equipment is the way it responds to being overdriven. It's my understanding that its a softer gentler clipped signal than that sent by overtaxed SS gear.

    I speak from experience about the evils of high powered SS clipping. In the mid-70s, while a student, I used four 8 ohm Speakerlab SKhorns in a mobile DJ business. With two per side in parallel, that presented a 4 ohm load to the Dynaco ST-400 amplifier, i.e., 300 watts/channel. By the end of each evening the volume was at ear bleed levels; the SKhorns played LOUD and clear. The evidence of high powered clipping was regularly fried T-35s. I must have replaced a dozen T-35 voice coils over two years. Id call EV (then at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />

    600 Cecil St., Buchanan, MI
    ) on Monday and theyd send out the diaphragm(s) along with an invoice (my recollection is that they were about $15 each). Id be good to go by the weekend. Those were the days when a company like EV would give a student an open account and mail replacement parts without requiring pre-payment.

  7. Now that's interesting. Has anyone here ever seen one of these before? The woodworking looks good. With a real balancing network and the right source material this could sound very good.

    I cast a VOT for this to be dubbed the original Cornscala.

  8. I have a pair of K77Ms and a pair of Alnico K77s. Each pair is available for $130 with free ground shipping w/in continental US. Payment from forum members could be by personal check. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    The K77Ms (out of Heresies) have the original cables attached.

    The Alnicos (out of La Scalas) have new diaphragms from BEC.

    Each speaker is fully operational. Photos of the fronts and backs are attached to this and subsequent posts. Please send an email or PM if youre interested.

    EDIT: 4/28 @ 20:15 EDT

    A deal is pending with a forum member for both pair so they are no longer for sale.

  9. Perhaps my recollection of previously having a web address for this apparently small fabricator was incorrect. Nonetheless, I first heard about these products a few years ago. An email got the following (unedited) reply:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    Hi, I am working on the web site, it is not ready yet but will

    be ready soon.

    Thanks for your interest

    These products are certainly pretty. The woodworking appears to be first rate. They probably sound good also, but what decent mid/tweeter horn wouldnt, with a pricey TAD 4002 compression driver?

    Regarding the Fatman bass bin, while it seems clear that the design was, at least, influenced by Klipsch/EV designs, the attached photo of the rear of the Fatman illustrates a complex curved construction rather than the flat and angular construction in Klipsch/EV bass bins.

    It would be interesting to get details regarding the crossover used to mate the TAD driven mid/tweeter horn to the JBL driven Fatman, as well as response curves. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Waterloo, Ontario is a suburb of Kitchener, Ontario. Its at least 5 hours from Birmingham, MI (Detroit). While a visit is tempting, I lack the free time to devote to a dedicated excursion to visit First Octave Audio. Perhaps someone who is closer could do some recon and report back to the forum.
