  1. The can ship them the slow way for $373. Interesting.
  2. Is that bad? When I looked, I did not see any great woods that they used. Thanks for pointing that out.
  3. First, I suspect that may people here have black La Scalas and love them. I be most of them that have black prefer it over the alternatives. If people take my expression of an opinion on a purely subjective matter as an insult, then I give up. So if someone says they do not like Heresy, is that an insult to those who own them? And in the same vein is your statement based on a single picture that the Hawaii La Scalas have a really bad stain job not an insult to me? The answer to that last one is no. I may overstate things and I may joke around, but I never purposefully insult anyone. It is not a kind thing to do, and I try to be a kind person. And in that respect, I don't mind that you said I insulted the cult of La Scalas that have no color, but I do mind that you took what I said as an insult. No I have never heard La Scalas. I have heard a Chorus I but not a Chorus II, and I have heard a CF-3, but not a CF-4. Also on my list of never heards is every Forte, every Cornwall and anything approaching a Klipschorn. I have so much to learn and experience, and I am trying to shift the balance more towards experience and less towards learn. So when these showed up and a good number of people made positive comments about them, I did some scheming and came up with a plan. If I can get them for $1,000 then they would very cheap for La Scalas. They don't have to be perfect or excellent to justify the price, and that is part of the atraction. It would be hard for them to go horribly wrong, and I would get to hear them every day. As for shipping, watch the YouTube video of Youthman unboxing a Forte III. These are $1,800 speakers with a 12" woofer and a 15" passive cone radiator. It admittedly has only a third of volumente of a La Scala, but it has half the weight. If shipping these is so difficult, how does Klipsch ship all their speakers without incident all the time. And it is UPS or FedEx, not some white glove treatment. Plus their boxes fit like a glove and have very little protection. I am just saying that it makes no sense to be afraid of shipping. So no, this is not a joke at all I have no idea if I will pull it off, but at a minimum I will have fun trying.
  4. I suppose I am. I honestly can't think of the last time that I was ripped off in a significant way, but I have had way too many close calls.
  5. No, please, I beg you, anything but Schu's story about his beautiful La Scalas and shipping. You make it sound so glorious but I know it isn't.
  6. OK, let's check shall we. This is available 30 miles from my home. Isn't it beautiful? At first I thought it was fireplace and that the black was soot. Isn't it wonderful that its blackness makes it impossible to see the workings and structure of the speaker? And then there is this. I can see the structure and even into the horns. The wood is gorgeous, and it looks to be in excellent shape. After all those years relaxing in Hawaii, I bet it makes beautiful sound. An all those others? $2,000 $650 (one) $1,200 $1,700 $800 $2,765 $1,500 $1,800 $1,095 $1,200 $1,800 When those came up, I spent a few hours looking a for sale and sold La Scalas, and I did not see anything that looked as nice for less than $2,500. Ordinarily I don't care that much about cosmetics, but in this case I would. And if it came with a tale to tell, that would be a plus.
  7. That is the Spock in you talking. There is more to life than logic. Have some passion.
  8. At the time, that was not easy either. But let me ask you this. Did that car hold a special place in your heart because of the trouble and improbable journey that you took get it? If I had gotten those South Dakota CF-4s, I never would have been able to look at it without remembering the Indian chief who helped me get it. And if I don't get them, it really doesn't bother me. Somehow driving down the street and buying a speaker to put in my living room just lacks pizzaz
  9. Pallet not possible. It would go in a container ship. I am trying to find out the environment and whether I could get special treatment.
  10. As they said in Monty Python's Holy Grail, "I'm not dead yet." And as it turns out maybe I am not. I am getting a quote to ship it in a container from Honolulu to Seattle. It would have t be barged to Honolulu first. Fingers crossed.
  11. Well I am dead in the water at the moment. Hawaiian Airlines won't take my business because I am not a known shipper, which requires a long history of shipping and is a Homeland Security thing. FedEx wants $1,338, which is not going to happen. I am talking to shipping people now. Do we have anyone in Hawaii? If we do, and they wanted it, I would gladly step aside for the good of the team.
  12. Thanks guys. In your experience, what should I expect for the cost to crate them. Not sure that a pallet works on a plane. Will ask.
  13. Yeah, @jimjimbo the differences are that I would be in these $960 delivered, and I really don't like them in black. The ones in Hawaii look like this. This or this? Hmmm, let me think about it. OK, I have decided, I will take the beautiful wood.
  14. @DizRotus I don't think he meant Iditarod. It was a spacing issue: I did a rod. I have never done a rod myself, but I hear that some people do, and, as they say, there's nothing wrong with that.
  15. Sorry, but I cannot resist this. I just got another email, but not from her. This one says after a long rambling introduction The Bible made us to understand that blessed are the hands that giveth. I took this decision because I don`t have any child that will inherit this money and my husband's relatives are not Christians and I don`t want my husband hard earned money to be misused by unbelievers. I don`t want a situation where these money will be used in an ungodly manner, hence the reason for taking this bold decision.I am not afraid of death hence i know where am going.Presently,I'm with my laptop in a hospital here in London where I have been undergoing treatment for cancer of the lungs. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank.I will also issue you a letter of authority that will prove you as the new beneficiary of my fund. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated.Hoping to hear from you soon. Remain blessed in the name of the Lord. Yours in Christ, Mrs Suran Yoda I have never received the Nigerian email in my life. Coincidence? I think not, although I was surprised to hear that she is in London. I would have expected Athens. This must be some kind of Karmic payback, but I can't figure out what it is for. There are too many possibilities.
  16. I am in pursuit of a pair of La Scala in Hawaii. Before you laugh, it is a direct flight for me, and flying them to me would cost $266. I have been looking for a company that could box them so that the owners do no have to try. Not at all sure they would do a good job. The ones I have found so far want to crate them for over $1,000. I am pretty sure that is not necessary, but what is for a La Scala? Is it any different than other speakers, and what is the norm? I cannot find any guidance online, and when I watched a YouTube video of @Youthman unboxing some Forte III, I was surprised at how little protection they had from the factory, and I was surprised to see @Youthman casually sliding them into his car, swinging them around and then pouring them out of the box. I might exaggerate but not that much. He knows what he is doing, which tells me that speakers are less fragile than I thought. These would be turned over to the airline, put on the plane, flown to Seattle, processed and then picked up. The box will have all the Fragile and "This side up" signs. A little help would go a long way.
  17. I guess I should not have been all that surprised, except that other efforts to make contact with companies have largely gone nowhere. Then again JTR seems to be more a guy than a company. It should be the norm, but as @KlipschFish (I love that name) pointed out, all too often it isn't. I just wish he offered me a free pair of B stock.
  18. @Maximus89 That was perfect. I am glad that I was able to be such a source of amusement for you guys.,
  19. Thanks again everyone. You are like an army at my back. I am done with her. There are more cf-4 in the sea, and they are real.
  20. Her response to my offer to fly down and pick up the speakers Sounds like a great idea! Unforltunately, I’ll be leaving for Greece few days from now on a short business trip. I hate that you emailed me so late. I’ll be gone for close to 3 month. Sorry, I’m afraid we cannot make a deal. The last option I have is we do 50 50. I receive half payment and I ship out. When you get these speakers, you send me my balance as soon as possible. I have the original boxes for the speakers and and my shipping experience has been very perfect. I have have no issues with that. I have a UPS who handles shipping for me so no problem on shipping damage. I’m trusting you on this. Let me know if that’s okay and you can proceed with payment. So now she will be content with stealing only $400 from me. Sooooooo very tempting. Or not. But since she is leaving for Greece in a few days, she can't sell them before she goes, so why not fly down when she gets back. It will still be rainy in Seattle. And just so you know, it does not rain all the time in Seattle. We have a wet season and a dry season. Wet is November through mid-May. Dry is mid-May through October. Little known fact: Seattle gets less rain during the baseball season than any other major league city outside of Arizona and California. Not that any of that matters, but it is 2:20 a.m. and I am still working.
  21. I see what you are doing. Then you would use my #139 to fly to Sacramento and buy it yourself. Nice try, but I am too sharp for you. I am going to get those speakers for myself.
  22. @mimalmo I live in Seattle, and I have a tentative deal with a guy in Spokane, Washington to buy a set consisting of 2 KLF-30, 2 KLf-2 and a KLF-C7 for $1,600. He was the original purchaser and they were purchased together. Can't help noticing that its a straight shot all freeway from Minneapolis to Spokane, but a hell of a long ride. This Roadie.com site I have been telling people about estimates $330 to have someone drive them to you. I am distracted at the moment with a La Scala in Hawaii, so if you wanted them, I would be happy to help arrange it. No idea if this is at all what you want.
  23. So this is what I sent back to her. Now what will she say? She hates cash? Thanks for your email. I have a bit a strange idea. I have had speakers damaged even with pallet shipping, and I always worry about that. Your area code puts you in the Sacramento area. I have tons of Southwest Airlines miles that I never use, and they have flights between Seattle and Sacramento for $69 anyway with advance purchase, so it would not use miles anyway. I confirmed with them that I can use miles for extra baggage, so I could just fly down there and pay you personally. I would gladly pay you $800 for them, and you would save the cost of shipping, so we would both win. I can even box them up so you don’t have to be responsible for that. Seattle is dark, gray and wet this time of the year, and I could use a few days of sun anyway. You may think that I am joking, but we have had over 8 inches of rain this month. Any excuse to take a break for a few days is a Godsend.
  24. You are seriously misunderestimating how little sense she made. And she did not prefer a check. She would have preferred a check, but she still wants Walmart money. I am thinking of offering to just fly down there and pick them up personally. Sacramento is 20 miles away. I could fly to Sacramento round trip for $139 on Southwest later in February. and I could check them on the return flight with me. So what is she going to say to that. I will give her $800 in cash, so she will get more because no shipping. This is going to get interesting.
  25. That is a given at this point. How sad that people actually prey on others that way.
