  1. Gil, I have a (purchased in) '61 Leslie Model 45 (no amp) "Voice of the Pipe Organ", with spinning twin horn and effects drum. The drivers are fixed. Woofer is Jensen P15LL, upper end is Jensen driver labeled V 20 C6609 on magnet and V 21 C6607 on mounting flange. The tremolo effect can be mesmerizing, and a lot of fun with the right people! Wish I had a Hammond B3, and knew how to play it!! Chris
  2. I thought the paper model I made this past weekend was quite informative, that is until I saw this plexi-glass beauty. Gil - was the rotating baffle electrically motorized, or spun as a result of SPL? Just curious. Also curious about the notched, rectangular "B" pieces. Please elaborate. Thanks for your help. Chris
  3. For lack of a better word, the "bifurcator" looks pyramidal, rather than prismatic as I had imagined. Can anyone speak as to the construction date of this Klipschorn? Thanks for a great pic!!
  4. Thanks HDBRbuilder, You must also be familiar with Figure 8, of the same patent, showing an alternate method of construction using twin drivers. This afforded greater power handling, for theater applications, while keeping the exterior dimensions/appearance the same as in Figure 1. The construction of Figure 8 would be simpler than that of Figure 1, but I question the end result. Can anyone speak as to the practical affect of this mod? Sonic characteristics? It seems of much simpler construction, with twice the power handling, yet the same volume/dimensions. Note: these drawings reference a 12" driver. Thanks again
  5. I was able to purchase cane direct from Klipsch in 2002 when I was restoring my Shorthorns. I don't know if it was NOS or new stock then, as I've heard it is no longer available. It is an open weave of natural fiber over a synthetic screen backing.
  6. Figure 1 (see attached), is a patent drawing for an early Klipsch corner basshorn, utilizing a 12" driver, and designed for 40 to 400 Hz performance with a "minimum loss in fidelity of the low frequency tones" to 30 Hz. The front panel size is near identical to the Klipschorn, while the top and bifurcated pathways are somewhat different. Has anybody seen, or more importantly HEARD one of these? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  7. Khorn58, I would really enjoy seeing pictures of your rear port Cornwall! Especially the porting, and back chamber. Thanks! Here is a partial pic of one of my Shorthorns. The components on top are for an upcoming Heresy project. Are you looking for the "TV" panel only, or the drivers as well? If so, it sounds like a number of drivers were used during the years of Shorthorn production, and you might be happiest matching the "clone" drivers to your existing ones. Best of luck. Let me know if you think I can help in any way. Chris
  8. Sorry if I confused you or anyone else along the way. Currently, I have everything I need for project 1 (Heresy), but it led me to thinking about improving my existing Shorthorns too (project 2). I would keep everything for the Heresy project, but would change my woofers (16 Ohm Trusonics), as well as the networks, motorboard, mid horn lens, etc. in the Shorthorn mod. Thanks, Chris
  9. Thanks all. Malcolm, part of the reason I was asking about box shape has to do with my Shorthorns. By keeping the top intact, but re-building the back chamber of the Shorthorn, I could achieve the same internal volume as the Cornwall. It could also have the same port dimensions available between the "legs", but a different box. Istead of being rectangular, the top and bottom plates of this box would be 6 sided like half a stop sign, if that makes sense. Finished, the Shorthorn would look the same as it does now (the side grills would be dummies) and wouldn't HAVE to be in a corner. Mine would. I know I would need a different motorboard, crossover, woofer (mine are 16 Ohm), and maybe a different mid lens, but I'm OK with that. The mod would be reversible, the woodworking would be relatively simple, but I don't know if it's a good idea..... Any thoughts out there??
  10. JWPATE - What will you be doing with the McIntosh gear? I would be interested if any part becomes available after your Marantz gear is restored. Thank you for your consideration. Q-MAN - Beautiful work as always. I'm impressed! Chris
  11. Tom, you sniped me! Just kidding! Nice score.
  12. Thanks to everyone for your interest and information. The overall length of driver and horn is only 10.25 inches without the dust cap. If I am thinking clearly, the internal volume would be close to 11.75 x 14 x 19.875. Is the back panel flush with the sides or recessed? In models with grills, are the speakers deeper by the thickness of the grill panel? I wish I knew of a speaker design program for Macs. I know I would enjoy using BoxPlot or other such tools, but don't know of any for my computer. Any suggestions out there? Does the shape of the internal volume affect anything? Could I build a corner Heresy or Cornwall with good results, or is this another can of worms entirely? Thanks again, Chris
  13. Thanks John! What is the upper crossover point? I guess I'm asking how much you think I might miss above 4K Hz. before the tweeter comes into play. Is there anyone that can help me with the dimensions, ply thickness(es), bracing details? Helpful information or references would be greatly appreciated. Chris
  14. Does FREE count? My favorite disc was given to me by my father for Christmas: Blues for Bu - Charles Fambrough Freddie Freeloader - Miles Davis All Blues - Miles Davis Bessie's Blues - John Coltrane Signifyin' - Lou Donaldson Orbit 6 - Bunky Green House Warmin' - Howard McGhee Sassy - Winton Kelly Bunny - Gerry Mulligan and Johnny Hodges Back Beat - Mulligan and Hodges What's it all About - Mulligan and Hodges My favorite purchased disc of the year (released 2000?) was Jimi Hendrix - Morning Symphony Ideas
  15. Perhaps my search technique is improper, but I am looking for a project, as well as good advice. Can anyone provide dimensions/details for a Heresy cabinet? Can anyone tell me if the following components are compatible: Type E network, large oil caps K-22-E woofer PD5-VH (Atlas) mid w/800 Hz EV 8HD lens T-35 EV tweeter Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  16. The only gamble seems to be how much you are willing to pay. The only strategy seems to be when that amount is entered. Even the ratchet system could be considered unethical in the "spirit of the auction" purists. E-bay has chosen to not stick with the traditional auction format of keeping an item open until there are no more bidders, and so the rules have changed. I have never used a sniping service, but I have won an auction with the bid placed in the last second of the auction and it was THRILLING. I have also lost items to snipers, but that should be considered my fault since I didn't bid enough in the first place. Strategy is ethical. Playing by the rules is ethical. If you disagree with the rules or the ethics of the people playing by those rules, the issue is with the rulemakers. Playing with only the subset of rules that you find personally appropriate may make you feel like a better person, but it won't help you win auctions.
  17. Thanks guys! I appreciate your help as always.
  18. I would like to A/B between K33-P's and E's, and I'm wondering if any harm would come from disconnecting the tweeter and midrange wires from the AA crossover and playing the woofers by themselves. If I need to wire a resistor in, help with values would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Chris
  19. Seen anything yet? I know its only been about a week, but I'm almost as excited for you as you must be. Happy Holidays!
  20. '73 La Scalas, mirror image. I am not the original owner, so it doesn't mean much. For those with "loose" pies, are there nail holes already in the plastic? Mine have nails in the top 2 corners of the "home plate" at the bottom of the pies.
  21. Sheltie Dave, I was just looking at some photos I took of my '59 Shorthorns when I opened them up for cleaning after purchase. The K-77's have "tested" stickers on them, but all the other drivers and crossovers have dated "tested & approved" stickers, as well as "K-Ortho" stickers. The labels on the backs note W5(S?)-22 crossovers, not 22-J as my memory led me to believe.
  22. Sheltie Dave, Congrats on your purchase! I watched the end of that auction and was disappointed when the reserve wasn't met, until I saw your other post about the "buy it now" re-listing. I have included a .jpg from hifilit.com from a 1957 Klipsch brochure. It describes some of the drivers used in '57, but it seems some others were used in later years. I don't know when Jensen woofers were used in Klipsch horns, so hopefully others will chime in. The crossover should be K-1000-5000, unless changes in drivers also changed the crossover. There may be many types of K-1000-5000 networks, as I have a pair of W-R in addition to the 22-J (memory?) pair that came with the Shorthorns. I am sorry to report that I don't have any extra cane cloth, and can't find the receipt. I will keep looking and let you know if it turns up. Sometime after my cane purchase, I read on this forum that Klipsch no longer carried it, but I would still check with them. A lot of people here also recommend Wendell Fabrics as a source. A search under "cane" should produce results. Do let us know what you find inside in regards to drivers and crossovers. Chris
