  1. Jim, I conversed with John many times during the early stages of his mega-slam project. What has happened to him? ---------------- On 12/17/2002 2:21:10 AM Jim Cornell wrote: OK Sunday i went to Boulder, brought my conrad johnson tube amp with me. I heard both drivers on tubes, my expeirence is this The Altec 288 makes the K-55-s sound like a tweeter! John Ellis, my freind is a VERY smart man, and he knows whats good, that day i saw and heard it myself. He also heard Tubes for the first time EVER That day we both learned a lot! Well in the process he happened to give me 2 cute boxes that fit my 511s very well, SO NOW i have them in the boxes he gave me, sitting on TOP of my ORIGINAL klipschorns! When im caught up, ill be looking for Altec 902s, or 288s, for SURE! Im just ganna go from the original Klipschorns, squawker output to the SEPARATE mod on top LOL! I HAVE to have them! I was ganna pick up a set of home made cornwall cabinets, but honeslty, i didnt want to build something that wouldnt copmare to what i have, so i decided to use the Altec drivers instead, and leaving the Klipschorns stock! The K-55-V looked like a toy in comparison! Regards Jim ----------------
  2. Andy, I do agree. As an Arkie growing up with PWK sound, the MOD-H was named due to the direct radiator giant step backward. Paul needed a "Bookshelf speaker" to complete the line.
  3. quote: Originally posted by HDBRbuilder: Mike, I have the book, too...and in that quote PWK said..."then I told him why I was doing the drawing..." ...the "why" that PWK told him was left out in the book(as are quite a few other things...QUITE A FEW!!!!...matter of fact, as good as that little book is...it is rife with things that somehow have been left out...and it has other problems, too...)...and that explanation showed his friend that the little speaker would not have a Horn design involved in its BASS reproduction...IOW... NOT FULLY HORN-LOADED!! THAT is the REAL HERESY of that little speaker!! And that is why, after PWK explained his drawing, his friend said: "Paul, coming from you, that would be heresy!" PWK was a major proponent of HORNS...that was his MAIN THING...NOT JUST CORNER SPEAKERS!!! The funny thing is....with the exception of the LaScala's INITIAL design reasons, EVERY OTHER SPEAKER PWK designed that was in the line in the mid-1970's was designed as a center channel speaker!! The Heresy, the Cornwall, and the Belle...all designed as center channels!! The LaScala was ORIGINALLY designed for Winthrop Rockefeller to use on a flatbed trailer while he stumped the state of Arkansas in his bid for governor. ------------------ TNC
  4. Get back to me... I live in Fayetteville....1.5 hrs from T-town. If nothing else..We can field measure my CORNS and produce the numbers you require..OR if not, will you sell the drive systems? Just kidding...I will help you. Say hi to Roy D. Merser for me. TNC ------------------ TNC
  5. Having been on this page for only six hours...I have been a bit outspoken;but I have been a Klipschguy for twentyfour years...Concerning the vertical horn placement in the CORNWALL..The CORNWALL ONE was designed for ether vertical or horizontal placement. If the horns are vertical, they are intended to be placed on their sides with the ports to the outside of the corner. If the horns are horizontal, the long side of the box is to be up. This is preferred as it allows the ports to couple with the floor plane. Better low end. If you are in doubt..consider this...CORNWALLS could be ordered with risers connected to the long side of the cabinet. ------------------ TNC
  6. As Paul would say.." Dont give it away..Throw it away. ------------------ TNC
  7. Ed, Im just the FNG on this page;but the "channeling the exp.".... stuff.....now thats what Im talkin bout.... PWK in the 60s TNC ------------------ TNC
  8. If you are into antiquities try the RABCO tone arm with your turntable. tnc ------------------ TNC
  9. Are you guys nuts ??? After reading entries on upgrading; it sounds more like RETRO..Using older PWK component. The earlier speakers designed by PAUL ( I have my doubts about who designed some later units ) were engeneered by an acoustical genuis. Maybe replace old wires, caps, and chokes. If it aint broke... I got my first PWKs in 1968. Now using: Four CORNWALL Ones as flank ( stacked Tweeter to Tweeter)HOLMAN PRE AMP LUXMAN CD-113 CD player Two HERESYs as Center Channels ( Stacked the same way) Two LUXMAN M-117 ( BTL-420w per chan ) as flanks One LUXMAN M-117 220w per chan to drive center chans ------------------ TNC
