  1. What's the difference between a K-55 with a K-600 lens and one with a K-700 lens? Can a K-55 with a K-700 lens be used in a Cornwall? Also, are there any differences in the K-77's used in Heresys vs. the ones used in Cornwalls? Thanks

  3. Hey everyone, I am looking for a pair of K-33's and type "A" crossovers for a pair of old C'walls. I have a pair of K-22's that I would like to trade along with a small amount of $$. Also have an old Compaq 5184 with a 17" monitor that I could throw into the mix if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance
  4. Saw these on eBay and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts. I can't find any info other than what's on the auction, but I may get 'em anyway. They sure look sweet and boy are they in good shape. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3029499446&category=14991&rd=1
  5. Sorry it took me so long to reply John. Anyway, I don't have any "M's", sorry.
  6. Howdy folks, I was wondering if anyone had a K-77 AlNiCo for sale. I need one for a Cornwall that I bought without one. Please reply to this post and I'll get it in my e-mail Thanks in advance for any help

  8. JM, I know, the thought of it turns my stomach as well. If it were up to me I'd keep them as they are, but I gotta pay rent. The cabinets leave something to be desired though (or maybe I'm being too critical). I saw a guy get upwards of $800.00 for parts only on eBay not long ago and that appeals to me right now. I hope someone will buy the pair as they are but, short of that, I really have no alternative. Who knows, maybe I'll come into some money and will be able to keep them. The sad part is that I got to listen to them for two weeks and now know what I'm going to be missing.
  9. Oh, I've got around $600 invested in the pair. I also have before and after pic's of the cabinets. I never cease to impress myself! The sand down went better than expected.
  10. Hey Guys, should have put this in at first, sorry, still in shock. I'm in Summerville, SC just north of Charleston. As far as price goes, I really had hoped to get you folks to make me an offer. You know much more about their value than I. I can send pics to show the state of the cabinets and drivers. The inside of the speakers look new. BTW, The names on the stickers are Gwen Cox and N.W. Bradford. I also failed to mention that one is missing the grill and the other grill has a very small amount of what appears to be white overspray from a paint job that took place near them. They were shipped to me on a pallet, shrink wrapped with NO container or protection other than cardboard over the fronts and under the bottom. I would be willing to travel a couple of hundred miles to deliver them or meet the buyer for a small fee to cover gas.
  11. I hate to do it, but I've just been laid off. I just got my C'walls a couple of weeks ago and, sadly, must part with them. The cabinets were very rough when I got them and I wasn't getting much sound from the tweeters. I sanded the cabinets and cleaned all the connections (some of which were loose) and things seem to be fine now. The edges of the plywood (type CBR) are pretty chipped up and there are a few places that are gouged through the top layer of the plywood. I'm not sure if anyone would want the cabinets or not, depends on how picky you are. Cabinets are probably 4 or 5 out of 10 (I'm pretty critical). I put a meter on the tweeters and got a reading of 6.3 ohms on each one so they are in good shape. They sound incredible! I have tons of pic's that I can send to anyone interested. Componants are as follows: Cornwall CBR serial #'s 16S574 and 16S575 K-77 Alnico tweeters serial #'s 94152 and 94156 K-55V alnico mids both dated Oct. 31, 1977 K-33E woofers serial #'s 27753 and 27756 Type "B" x-overs I'm going to list this stuff on eBay on the 22nd 'cause I really need the money. I figure I stand to maximize the dollar potential by parting them out. I just thought I'd offer them to you folks first. All offers will be considered. If someone wants the pair intact we could work out delivery or shipment.
  12. Hey folks, The fellow that I bought my Cornwalls from runs a cinema supply company in Miami FL and has asked my help in getting rid of a JBL commercial cinema sub. It has two 18" JBL 2240-H woofers in a three chamber enclosure and weighs 250 lbs. Do you think the neighbors would complain? The spec. file and photo's are large so I won't post them here but if anyone is interested I can e-mail them to you. They are on the JBL website as well, the page is here: http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/4688.pdf. Also, he has an EV based theater array that was custom made for an AMC theater which, for whatever reason, wasn't picked up. This thing looks to be a three way-4 driver unit with a large woofer, a large mid-horn and two high freq. drivers. It would probably make an awesome center. This guy took extra good care of me on my C'wall purchase and actually refunded $175.00 of the $475.00 purchase price when he learned that the tweeters were blown, so he's pretty straight-up IMO. These speakers are interesting to say the least. If anyone is interested let me know. tony61@netzero.net
  13. Thanks John, I new I had come to the right place! I'll check resistance A.S.A.P. The sound isn't distorted and there is no ringing to speak of. I'll go ahead now and clean everything up and resolder the circuit. I'll resolder the connection at the tweeter itself as well, just to cover all the bases. If we're looking at a Xover rebuild, do you have any idea what kind of $$$ are we talking? Thanks again for your help.
  14. Well, I received them Friday. Boy are the cabinets trashed. I think I can fix 'em up spiffy though but it will be a project. The thing that concerns me is the tweeters. Very low output (please see the "Cornwall tweeter help" thread on the "Trouble Shooting" BB). I told the seller about it and it seems as though he's going to work with me. The auction description did not come close to being accurate regarding the condition of the speakers. So, cross your fingers for me. I'm going to post some pic's as soon as I can, kind of a before and after thing. I want to show you the stands that I made for my Heresys as well and get your opinions. What's inside you ask? K-77 K-55V K-33E Type "B" crossovers The good thing is that the componants inside look brand new, not even any dust! They sound sweet too, except for the tweeter thing. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be an easy repair. By the way, Damn these things are BIG!!
  15. Hey everyone I just got my '78 C'walls and the problem is that the volume of the tweeters is very low. I thought they weren't working at all untill I did the following: I disconnected the leads going to the mids and the woofers. Then turned the low freq. test tone on my Yamaha HTR-5280 on the "wide" setting (somewhere above 250 hz) The sound from the tweeter is inaudible until the volume is turned up to around -22db on the display. They sound good when hooked up normally, but when I put my ear up to the tweeter under mormal listening conditions (around -60db)I can't hear anything. When listening to classical music through my DirecTV with just the tweeters hooked up I have the same result, no sound untill the volume is set to -22db.The sound being output doesn't seem to be distorted or anything, just real low. They have type "B" crossovers, all of the connections are good. In fact everything looks brand spankin' new on the inside. It just seems as though my Heresys had a much higher output when set at the same level. I could put my ear up to their tweeters and hear sound at normal listening levels. What do you think the problem is? Thanks in advance for your learned input
  16. God bless all who have been affected by the weather of late. As I sit here in Summerville, SC, we are under a tornado warning. It's hailing and the weather guy just reported a funnel cloud less than a mile away. Thank goodness it's going the other way. My 9 year old is more than a little upset so I better go and comfort him. Another tornado reported close by, going to the hall now. Just felt compelled to chime in on this thread. Hope all you mid-western Klipschers are OK.
  17. Allen, I just wanted to say what a nice thing it is that you have done. Even if I'm not lucky enough to get a pair, it does my heart good to see the way you guys look out for each other. I'm in South Carolina and if I can ever do anything for anyone on the BB please don't hesitate to ask.
  18. Tom, If there is a pair left I would love to have a pair for my '78 Cornwals. Thanks, Tony
  19. I'm all over it! I've gone to the piont that I haven't told her yet. I foresaw the affirmation that I've gotten from you guys and am compiling it into my justification presentation. Affirmation justification presentation??? How far gone am I? That's three "shuns" in one sentence. Someone call the grammer police.
  20. MFLO, Welcom to the show I very strongly second the Heritage based system. I started out with a Synergy series system, but the problem is this stuff is an affliction. I've only been into it for about 4 years and have been through it, tiny little cube looking things, reasonable bookshelf sized things and some things the size of a stove(god I miss my LaScalas). IMHO, if you get anything other than Heritage, save the boxes 'cause you'll need 'em. My vote, Heresys all the way around, you'll never regret it. The first time I heard the "crickets and dinosaurs" was on a Heritage system. The doggone thing will scare you, you won't know if the sound is in the room or on the soundtrack if you are timbre-matched. Timbre-matching is very important for that "jeez is that chopper landing on the house" effect. Anyway, welcome to the family and don't stress over your decision, have fun with it. You'll be doing it for years. Mine Heresys everywhere Yamaha pushin' 'em Cornwalls on the way!
  21. Thanks for the advise. My question now is this: Due to the fact that the point where the crossover board and the speaker terminals are glued together is carrying the signal,(no wires from speaker terminal to crossover) how precise does the fit have to be? Will the glue conduct the signal well enough? Thanks again
  22. The crossover came unglued from the speaker terminal plate. The terminal plate (where the speaker wire connects on the back) is supposed to be glued to the circuit board that contains the crossover on the inside of the speaker. Is this something that is repairable? If so how do I go about it? Is there a special glue? Thanks for the help.
  23. Man Oh man! This thing just keeps getting better. The seller just called me with a freight quote. Get this, $72.00 freight from Miami to Summerville, SC (1200 mile round trip) via LTL truck and only $10.00 to crate and palletize 'em! I was expecting $200.00 +/-. I guess they get a substantial discount on freight thru the carrier. I'll keep you folks posted as to how we progress. Oh, thanks for the affirmations. You guys are making my wife feel alot better. My H/T: '78 Cornwalls(heh, heh, heh) in front '81 Heresys in the back '82 Heresy in the center 2 Yamaha YST 160 subs Yamaha HTR-5280 Driving 'em I've always wanted to do that
