  1. I always have my receiver and speakers on when I'm watching satellite TV broadcasts and my unit is a Denon 2802. I don't watch VHS tapes anymore anyway but I also hear everyone saying that PL II also sounds great for regular TV. I have tried using it but still find that 5 Channel Stereo sounds better even on regular TV because there is constant info. being heard from the rears. I agree that PLII is an improvement over the original version and you hear a little more from the rears but it doesn't seem as dramatic an improvement as everyone says. Am I missing something? Also, it seems that I hear a little more from the rears in the music mode than the cinema mode when watching TV. This doesn't make sense to me. Is PLII just better suited for older DVD's and VHS Tapes than regular TV? ------------------ the goods

    Blade II

justin, it might help to watch Blade I first since there are a few flashback scenes in Blade II that relate to what happen in the first one if you are really into the storyline but I just like the action and Blade II has so much more and the DTS soundtrack is so much better than the Dolby Digital version on the first one. ------------------ the goods

    Blade II

I bought this DVD yesterday and the sound is outstanding! It has a DTSEs soundtrack that is killer. I don't even have the surround back speaker but even in DTS 5.1 it is one of the best sounding DVD's I have heard to date. I thought that it would have good sound but didn't expect it to be THAT good. This is definitely a demo disc to add to your collection. ------------------ the goods

    Buyer Beware

Cluless, My apologies. I didn't realize you were a "dudette". But you should definitely check out the chapters of the Thin Red Line listed in my previous post. Sure there are a lot of boring parts in the movie but the action scenes are intense! ------------------ the goods

    Buyer Beware

cluless, Dude: The Thin Red Line dts version has some awesome sound. Go to chapter 9(Starnes Attack). Also Chapter 16 when they take the jap bunker. I have a 5 disc dvd changer and this disc remains in it at all times. Chapter 16 is definitely show off material. You must skip the boring parts and go straight to the good stuff!! ------------------ the goods
  6. I didn't say it has the most bass of any movie but as far as the clarity and constant use of the surrounds it is hard to beat. Very detailed sounds. ------------------ the goods
  7. boa12, If it comes out in dts, I'll just buy that version too. If I were you I would go ahead and buy it now though. It sounds that good. If it comes out in dts I would think it would be several months down the line. Just my 2 cents ------------------ the goods
  8. boa12, I would have to say that I think as far as sound goes it tops the Matrix. Movies with lots of gunshot effects are always favorites of mine and they are non-stop in this one. Don't get me wrong, the Matrix has a great soundtrack as well but I still feel Black Hawk Down is the best Dolby disc I own at this point. High praise I know but it is deserving. Check it out and you'll see what I mean ------------------ the goods
  9. KAin, I do own the Saving Private Ryan dts version. You will find no argument fom me that it is reference material. But as far as dolby digital discs, Black Hawk Down is as good as it gets.I can't even begin to imagine how good it would sound if it was in dts. Go get it! You won't be disappointed. As far as my system, it's not audiophile but it sounds good for my needs: Marantz SR7200 A/V Receiver Sony DVPC660 5 disc changer(for dvd's only since it won't support cdr playback) Marantz CC4000 OSE 5 disc cd changer(great piece of gear) Fronts: SB2 bookshelf Center: SC1 Rears: SS1 Sub: Def Tech ProSub 100TL 10" sub(Awesome sub) ------------------ the goods
  10. I bought this DVD yesterday and it is awesome! The surround effects are amazing. I wish it had a dts version to go along with the dolby digital version but the dolby digital sounds great. I would definitely have to say it's the best sounding dolby digital disc I own. This is a must have for your show off collection. ------------------ the goods
  11. KAiN64, They have better audio and video. Buy one. You'll see what I mean. ------------------ the goods
  12. I've listed it in the section "Movies to show off your killer system." Not only this but all of the suberbit titles that I have are great. The others I have are The Fifth Element, Dracula, and Vertical Limit. You should check these titles out as well ------------------ the goods
  13. boa12, I have the synergy series. SB2 mains, SC1 center, and SS1 surrounds ------------------ the goods
  14. Does Denon's sound seem dull to you guys when listening to cd's? It kind of does to me. I have the 1801 and it seems flat in 5 ch. stereo. Will Yamaha provide more treble for a crisper high end? I haven't had the chance to compare the two but I heard Yamaha amps are brigther which I think would be the sound I'm looking for. Any feedback about this comparison? ------------------ the goods
  15. I bought Behind Enemy lines yesterday. It has a dts soundtrack and there are some awesome gunshot effects. I was surprised at the quality of sound on this disc. Definitely check this one out. ------------------ the goods
  16. Which do you guys think is a better performer for music: Onkyo, Denon, or Yamaha? I mainly like music in 5 channel stereo mode and I know all 3 of these receivers have this mode. ------------------ the goods
  17. Boa12, I checked my setup when I got home last night and I did have the 5.1 jacks going from the player to the ext-in inputs on back of the Denon. I'm assuming that the Miles Davis multi channel mode simply has no lfe signal. I do have the bass management set to 5 small + subwoofer. The readout on the display of the player does say 5 ch and not 5.1 for this disc. Also, 2 channel seems to play much louder on this disc than multi. Anyone else have this disc and what kind of feedback do you have if so? ------------------ the goods
  18. Thanks boa12. I thought I was using the Ext-in inputs on my receiver but I'll double check when I get home. ------------------ the goods
  19. I recently purchased the Sony SCD-CE775 Sacd player. The first disc I bought is Miles Davis Kind of Blue which is multichannel. I have both the 5.1 analog outputs and the 2 ch outputs connected. When I play the multichannel mode of the disc I get nothing from the sub but 2 channel the sub is active. Is this simply because there is no lfe signal for this particular disc in the multichannel mode? This is the only multichannel disc I have so I can't compare it to another one. Also, I have a Denon AVR1801 receiver that does have 5 channel stereo but no Pro Logic II. Is the SACD format best suited for PLII? When I listened to the SACD in Circuit City they had it hooked up to some crappy Sony speakers and receiver but whatever dsp mode they had it on I heard all kinds of ambience coming from the rears.I get much cleaner sound on sacd than normal cd but the only mode I can really listen to the multi channel in is 5 channel stereo so all 5 speakers are playing the same thing. I thought sacd was supposed to send discrete sounds kind of like dd or dts or am I wrong? I guess I may need to get a receiver that does PLII. It just seemed like in the store I was hearing more ambience. The receiver in the store didn't have PLII either but it was playing in some other funky dsp mode that sounded good. All the DSP modes on my Denon suck except the 5 ch stereo. Let me know what you guys think. Probably just need to upgrade to PLII? ------------------ the goods
  20. Sorry. I could not post any replies until I got to work as I do not have internet access at home. Thanks for your feedback. I went ahead and bought the Sony unit this weekend as Circuit City has a 30 day refund policy so I said "What the hell?" If I don't like it, I'll take it back. I'm satisfied with both the regular CD and SACD performance so far. But I'm still curios as to what you guys think of the Denon. I have read some reviews on audioreview.com but have not been able to hear it at any of my local stores. Has anyone been able to compare the sony and the Denon for regular cd performance? ------------------ the goods
  21. I just purchased the Klipsch SB2 mains, SC1 center, and SS1 surrounds. The system sounds great. I currently am using a Sony CDP-CE525 5 disc changer. I need another changer as this one is on its last leg. I have narrowed it down to the the Sony SCD-CE775 super audio changer($199 killer price at Circuit City) and the Denon DCM 370(which does HDCD)which is around $299. I have a Denon AVR 1801 receiver. Which will actually sound better on regular cd's? I know sacd will sound excellent but will the sony improve the regular CD sound any? I must admit that I do like the looks of the Sony much better but I want your feedback on the sound comparison between it and the Denon. Anyone? ------------------ the goods

    Superbit DVDs

Todd, I have four of the superbit dvd's: Dracula, Air Force One, Vertical Limit, and The Fifth Element. All of them sound awesome to me and the picture is better than any of the other dvd's i have as well. However I don't have both the regular version and superbit version of any of these titles. I would have to think that they are much better than the regular version of the same disc since they seem to be my best sounding dvd's, especially the dts versions. I think it is worth the extra money for these discs but I would get titles that I don't already have. All of the superbit titles are on their website:www.superbitdvd.com ------------------ the goods
  23. Keith, when you say the synergy series will sound warmer than the reference series, do you mean "brighter" or do you mean less bright and more refined? I've heard the term warm sound thrown around by different people but not sure of the meaning. I tried to go audition the SB2 units at a local dealer but they didn't have any of them hooked up and there's only one Klipsch dealer in my town. Hopefully when I go back again I'll be able to listen to them. I checked out the RB3 units on the site you mentioned. Again, I still think the reference series is a little out of my budget. ------------------ the goods
  24. Had to add this one to the list. There is a new superbit version of Vertical Limit that I bought last night. Some of the best audio you will hear, especially the dts version. Good surround involvement throughout the movie and some deep bass. You will definitely feel immersed in sound. Highly recommended! ------------------ the goods
  25. Keith, just a little info. about my room setup. I have an awkward arrangement. There is a fireplace on the front wall so the TV is in the far right corner. The two front speakers are on stands on each side of the TV and the sub behind the TV. The couch is facing the fireplace and the 2 rears are wall mounted behind the listening area. Not an ideal setup but this is the only option I had. With the restricted corner space I don't think floorstanders will be an option as mains so I was looking at another bookshelf model and more surrounds that I can wall mount just like my current setup. I guess the bottom line is I want similar size but more crisp sound if that is possible. I have yet to hear the SB2. I may check them out this eve. or tomorrow. ------------------ the goods
