From my limited understanding of how ATMOS should be set up is based on reference to the main listening position. From their diagrams, the speakers appear equidistant apart and the panning should sound seamless from your floor/ear level speakers to the Atmos/ceiling speakers. Room limitations affect the location, of course so there is always a compromise of sort. A ceiling track system for speakers would be interesting to make to adjust locations on the flyish. The ceiling speakers are just speakers up on the ceiling. ATMOS is just the coding/processing that tells the AVR to send sound to designated speakers (those assigned up on the ceiling). My speakers are not modules like the ones that reflect sound from the ceiling down to the listener.

I currently have two R-2650-C. 2. They are currently just forward of the main listening/seating position (circled As in the picture below if it works). 3. It's great for what I love. I love the overhead planes and helicopters. 4. I want more ceiling speakers. I would like 6 total but affordably 4 total is logical right now due to cost of capable AVRs. Blue Dots represent the new locations for ceiling speakers. I'm looking to use the CDT-5800-Cs.

Yeah I noticed that too. I sent him a message for clarification. Would these surrounds be better/advantageous to use than say a floor standing speaker(RF82II) for surrounds?

I am looking for the Original RC-64 preferably in black veneer but I'm not picky and some RS-62 surrounds. May setting for RS-52. I'm Located near Houston, TX.

Drew and MS Painted future planned setup. Is there such a thing as 5.2.6 capable receiver, yet? A sliding rail/track system for atmos speakers would be cool. The Atmos speakers will benefit immensely from the inclined ceiling. Current config right now is 5.1.2 where the Circled A's are the current locations of the Top Middle Atmos speakers. The sectional is actually 1 foot further back right now than actually pictured and it is currently missing the left chaise that will be purchased in the future. room is 21x17 lowest ceiling height is 8' highest ceiling height is 9' The sloping ceiling is depicted by the hashed lines. The small circled X's are small LED ceiling lights. The Grills are small vents and large ceiling return. Gray squares are my 10" subs Front LR are RF-83s Top Atmos are R-2650-Cs. Would like to get the CDT-5800s but it's whatever deals I find, as always. Center currently an RC-62II. Still searching for the holy grail RC-64 still. Rears surrounds will be RF-82/IIs +/- RS-62/IIs--still searching. 3 windows on the far right wall and large 7' archway on the left entry/wall. Projector hung over the rear sub behind the sectional.

I'd be down for a listening session if I ever have the free time when I'm up in the area. Then you can school me on all the possibilities I do not know of regarding audio gear and setup.

My media room came with inwall speakers with poor locations. Looking to add additional speakers and moving the inwalls to different locations. AVR, I need more channels and power.

I have a higher model than you--DENON S920W and currently running a 5.2.2 setup. I would recommend getting a receiver with more channels with more power. Bigger is always better to have so you do not lose out wanting more. The higher models allow additional channels with the use of an external amp which can be seen in the X-series of Denon's AVR units. Seeing how your HT configuration is, you may like to run 5.2.4 setup seeing you do have the space (long length) to run it. More channels is always better in my book.

I do not have enough experience with those speakers, but general consensus would say to stick with speakers that have the same tweeter/driver setup. If you plan to go with the RP8000f, then you may be best suited to stick with the same RP line. It all depends on your ears. I'm the same boat with getting the best/biggest center channel you can get.

Apologies for the lack of knowledge, but are these the same that came in the RF-83s?

Thanks for the input thus far! I'm going with leave the inwall where they are and use freestanding speakers. I lucked out and scored some RF-83s and picked up a RC-62II. Unfortunately I missed out on a RC-64 deal but the 62II will suffice for now. What are yalls input in regards to rear surround speakers? I was considering RF-82IIs for the rear surrounds since they match closer to the RF-83s up front. Would it be worth looking into RS-52s or 62s for side surrounds? Only issue I see is maybe mounting the right speaker where the windows are. AT is possible for me to do in the far future given that I have room to work with behind the screen wall since this upstairs in the attic space.

What would yall recommend as a center channel speaker for this size of room? benefits of 4 woofers over 2 in the center channel?

This is the first I've heard of bipole and dipole speakers. Probably best to stick to what I'm familiar with right now.

Bill, Now that you mention the orientation, I see it now. That would definitely give me more "room" to position the speakers. This makes me want to go out and buy a new set of freestanding speakers. For the archway, would creating a false wall or hang a curtain help? Chris, Those charts are really informative. It appears that the ideal setup is where the speakers are an equal distant from center of the listener. Currently, the ceiling speakers seem useless but then again, I have not had the time to experiment with a good Atmos movie or soundtrack. I am much better off with a fine tuned 5.1 setup at this point it seems.

Our house came built with a home theater setup and it is leaving me less than satisfied. I am no audio setup pro but I feel my left and right speakers are set too far apart and higher than I think it should be. I'm accustomed to freestanding speakers in the past for more fine tuned listening as they're oriented towards the listening reference point at about ear level for the whole immersion feel which seems lacking with this. Am I wrong to think this was improperly thought out and set up? I'm not scared to cut holes so long as I have some guidance as to properly aiming and locating the speakers. Speakers are midgrade Reference Series with a Denon AVR. Room is 21'x17' Lowest ceiling height is 8' ideal viewing/listening position distance from screen is about 15' LR speakers about 18' away ideal viewing/listening position side speakers are midway of screen at 64" (middle of speaker) L to R distance is 19.5' LR speakers are 11 inches from center away from the wall edge Ceing speakers are 44" away from edge of ceiling and 6' away from back wall.
