  1. It's not that hard to pull one out for pics... It's not as pretty as I'd hoped, but everything is right. They used 2x 3uf together for the 6uf Mid. They are 100% functional and solid. Will be packed very well. I could tidy them up a bit, but might be best to leave well enough alone.

Please feel free to make an offer. All proceeds will go directly to Dave A 😁

Not true, but you need those little devices that register impact force in the box to prove it.    Any void inside anything with heavy parts is space which allows parts to move internally when impact occurs, and you have to expect 6 foot box drops, which may land perfectly on one side of a box with no signs showing.  All the vintage audio I sell gets panels removed and insides stuffed with bubble wrap, with instructions for removing it once received.  Otherwise transformers shear off their mounts, or distort chassis, or speakers look like the above.  Sometimes there's nothing you can do; I purchased JBL LSR28P speakers new years ago, and it took 3 shipments from the factory to get an undamaged pair at my door.  The first two attempts had perfect looking factory sealed boxes, and the tweeters were mangled from impact force.

I wonder what design considerations are made  to increase durability for shipping, and if they have to compromise performance so they survive...

Slow day at work for me.

  3. For me it depends a lot on the item, my urgency to sell, and the communication. I have a price range in mind when I list and I can be flexible when I want something sold. That also applies to my policy of holding things, having had many experiences with no call/no show. I will usually hold but try to be clear up front if the item is FCFS, or first person to tell me they are on their way.

I really only negotiate before, based on the assumption that I have described the item accurately and we have agreed to the value as described.  If the buyer shows up and catches something I didn't I will work with them, but I had a guy show up, demo a turntable and then offer me $50 less. I felt like he wasted my time, it was mint and exactly as described, so why has the value changed? I'll happily respond to any courteous offer that's not an atrocious low-ball, it's about the value to each party and I don't think it's bad form to make an offer based on the value to you.

When we bought our first house our realtor said to offer the asking price and use the inspection to negotiate. I thought that was how it was done, and while there were issues they were known before the offer. Granted the seller could have refused to negotiate, but in retrospect I felt that that was a shady tactic. Also did not like that I was not able to talk to the homeowner directly.

  4. I have a pair of Chorus II crossovers w/ sonicaps installed (looked like the standard Crites package) that will be available soon. I can include the cup, crossovers, and wires so it will be a plug and play replacement. Thinking around 100 shipped. I will inspect all the joints and send pictures when I pull them out.

Timeline is flexible, I have other projects I should do but I'm excited to get started on these. If you're interested I'll pull them out and send pictures.

  5. I will, it may not have been the neatest job but they sound just fine to me so far.

If you a haven't put your xover back in you may to check the soldering connections. I just finished switching from Dayton to sonicaps and orginal owner did not do a great job putting in the daytons. Good luck with your upgrades.

  6. Thanks, and of course in no way intending anything negative about Crites as his crossovers are extremely well built and a fantastic value.

I've priced out most brands and the cost of the caps alone is almost what the Crites crossovers are. To do Theta PPT for the mid (6uf) would be about $110, or Milex @ $194!. Then say Arizona Blue for the tweeter at $120 (4x 2uf). Fewer options in the 6uf and 2uf I need.

  7. I jumped on a pair of 'custom' speakers on CL, thinking if someone was going to all the trouble of building speakers they would know what they were doing.  At the very least they would use quality drivers, no one would go to all that effort and put in junk drivers. I thought to myself.

I thought wrong. They went to the dump on my next run and not making that mistake again.

  8. I am very interested in a pair of Chorus IIs with a finish that is not going to get top dollar or not worth saving. Beat up is fine, not even sure if they did a black finish? Risers not necessary. Don't even need crossovers. Drivers need to be good though. I could even build cabinets if someone had drivers.

Half the fun for me is in the process of working on it and making it mine.

No rush, but wanted to put that out there. I'm in the twin cities but could drive 8-10 hours for the right pair.

  9. This was the response I got on the one in northern MN in case you see anything similar:

    Hi

this 2245 has had periodic Caig de oxit D5 detailing, a tuner alignment, not much else, comes from a smoke free, pet free environment. Spent most of it's life in the den running a pair of Klipsch Heresy . Pots and switches are clear

I can drive it thru my Klipsch belles (103db) and it has a marvelous old skool tone, has the headroom of a much larger amp . Really excels with horn loaded designs.

These black face models were sold thru the PX service and alot were purchased by military personnel and brought back to the US in the mid '70s . It is 110v 60hz.

My buddy Charlie was stationed at Rhein-Main AB in Frankfurt in the '70s
You could get really killer deals thru the PX, I know Pioneer sold a ton of stuff thru this service. He brought back a Tandberg 3300x Reel/Reel and 4 Pioneer CS 99a speakers which I now own too. Probably the best speakers Pioneer ever produced, although most Pioneer guys rave about the HPM - 100

Pioneer had a black face program in the late '70s , except they changed all the model numbers to really confuse you.

There is alotta documentation about the Marantz blackface online, and the best way to tell a new face plate from an original is the new ones which sell on ebay are actually sharper in the etching. The Marantz originals show a little wear , but after 45 years anything would.

Can run 4 speakers , main and remote, simultaneously

The 22xx series accepts the WC-22 wood cabinet , but I personally think it looks better with out it.

Have a pdf copy of the owner's manual.

  10. How often do you see fixer-uppers? I feel like I've been watching for awhile and they rarely come up. I would love to find a pair with beat to crap boxes I could restore.

This would be my dream project, they guy is showing them to someone now but if that falls through I am seriously considering driving 10 hours for these.

They aren't.  I compared the pics and the wood grain was different.

Funny thing is they originally listed them for $1800, then $1700, then $1600, then back up to $1700.

Gotcha. I didn't think so, but sometimes the persistent relisting and high price indicate flipping. Actually now that I think about it these may have been listed before.

    Anyway.
