  1. Hi all I'm in the process of building my 2 channel system from scratch. I have already decided on the speaker (Dynaudio Contour 1.3 Mk II, got a good deal on it) and now I'm looking for for amp and a CD player. Now, I don't live in US so I'll have only a limited number of product avaliable to me, but do feel free to suggest anything. The budget for the amp and CD player together is around 2,000 USD. The CD player I'm looking at are Arcam CD 72 Rega planet Sony SCD XB940 (SACD player) Proceed PCD 3 (second hand, don't even know what it looks like..) Linn Classik Linn Genki And the amps are : Arcam DiVa 65 or 75 Rega Mira Linn LK 85 (power) I would also appricate any other suggestion on amp/pre and CD player. Thanks
  2. Has anyone heard of Sharp SM-SX1 amplifier ? What are your opinions ?
  3. Thanks Ray So how exactly does the amplifier rated. Do they actually measure power output at specific impendence or do they just take it form the quoted transister spec. Heck, do they even use the same method between different maker ?? Come to think of it, a plot of power output vs impendence might be useful... (or better, current vs voltage vs impendence, but that would make one hell of a graph to look at. )
  4. Umm, I'm feeling pretty dumb here since I don't know much about audio... but there is one question How could you pump more current through the speaker coil and outputting less watts ? (giving constant impendence, you 'd actually need higher voltage to push more current through) Or maybe I really don't know what I'm talking about...
  5. And while we are at it, what is the different between second-order xover (or was it slope) and first-order.
  6. I got a similar question too. If you play an audio CD into your CD-ROM drive and listen to it via the headphone out jack on the drive itself, you don't need a soundcard to do this. So does this mean that the (digital) signal from the CD gets convert to analog (to your headphone out) by the CD-ROM drive ?? Can you get your soundcard to perform the conversion instead ?? would it make any difference ?
  7. Is it possible that your video card overheat and become unstable ?? Or it could be your CPU... Easiest way, I guess would be to measure the temp, (or just touch the chip...if it didn't burn your finger...)
