  1. I'm using a yamaha receiver and 5.1 klipsch matched bookshelf speakers. I don't know the model names of the stuff right now though. =( Anyways I was wondering if you guys had some tips for me, or if there is a website with general tips for setting up stuff. It just doesn't sound like I have the speaker positioning and everything right. ie. distance of rear speakers to listener, distance of front speakers to listener I need all the help I can get! =)
  2. What does it mean when the power rating is 75x5? Shouldn't it be 75x7 for the avr 320?
  3. The thread Harshness? might help you. I'm going to try out some towers tomorrow and I can't wait.
  4. I would, but they are too expensive. I just bought a guitar amp, I want a guitar, I'm going to need to build a computer within the next two years, I need a receiver, and for the price of the 7s I could get the 3s and some more speakers. I'll be living w/o a sub for a while, and right now I don't plan on ever buying one unless I get it for free or win a large amount of $$$. :
  5. Anyone else hear about the price drop? This message has been edited by guitarizt on 04-12-2002 at 08:19 PM
  6. Thanks I feel a lot better about making a decision now. The rf-5s didn't look like it was much different than the rf-311s, and I havne't heard any complaints about logic 7 yet.
  7. One more quick question: What's the difference between Logic 7 and Prologic II? Is logic 7 just something that h&k came up with?
  8. I think I'm going to buy a h&k avr320 like that other guy might be doing, but I'm not sure which speakers to get. It looks like the rf-311 speakers have more bang for the buck than the rf-5 speakers. Are the rf-5s really that much better or should I just get the rf-311s? I'm just gonna live with 2 front speakers for a while. Thanks for your help. I think I'm getting really close to buying something now.
  9. I'm not a big fan of some of her movies, but are you talking about sister act?
  10. bump for the fire hazard question. I wish I had $42,000 to spend on a home theater. I bet it'll look/sound great when you finish it.
  11. I went on vacation to utah last week, and the place I was staying in had a bose lifestyle 8 system setup quite nicely. I watched 3 vhs movies, some tv, and listened to some cd's. My altec lansing acs54s would sound better through the headphone jack of the tv/cd player than the complete lifestyle 8 system.

Presently, the mains & center are being stored, but I would be willing to set them up if you live nearby and want to listen. Wes That would be great, but I live near grand haven. On map quest it said that I was about 175 miles away from you. If I ever head out that way to visit relatives or something I might be able to make it. I'll call around to some stores to see what they carry, but there's only 3 dealers that might carry the reference series. Langlois is the closet to me, but I'm pretty sure they don't carry the reference or synergy series. They do have the quintets which I know not to get and don't want anyways. The other two stores are in grandville and grand rapids which is about a 40-50 minute drive.

Here's a link to someone selling it on ebay if you want to see it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1344587100&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1018553576&indexURL=0&rd=1
  14. I'm checking out the prices and I might pay the extra $ for the rf-3s but I'll have to check them out first. I might be able to Saturday, but I can't remember what model speakers the store I'm going to had. I doubt they were synergy or rf's because they were ~$1000 for a single speaker if I remember right. It might have been a pair though.
  15. What's the difference between the sf 1 and 2? Does the sf 2 just have one extra speaker giving it the name sf 2? Might get the sf2 just cause it looks cooler, and it should be able to move a lot more air with that extra speaker. I'll have to listen to them though. I will be using them for music too, but mainly for tv and movies. I listen to music mostly on my computer anyways and I don't care enough about the sound to upgrade my soundcard and speakers yet. I use to have a sharp 702 portable md recorder but it broke a month ago and I've been depressed ever since. =(
  16. Synergy eh? ... I'll check 'em out, thanks!
  17. Here in Michigan we get $.10 for returns. =) Sell them on ebay. There's lots of smart people on their who will buy bose anything.

That's why bose is so popular. They aren't cheap though.
  19. I'm thinking about getting a yamaha RX-V995 receiver (I have no idea why I put sony. I was looking right at the yamaha receiver online too). What is the best sounding, cheapest pair of floorstanding speakers I could get? Am I making a big mistake in getting a yamaha RX-V995? I'm not worried about how loud the system can get, but floorstanding speakers would be nice. I want to make it a 5.1 eventually, but I'll probably just try to get by with a 4.0 setup. I'd be using a pair of floorstanding jensens and a pair of klipsch's I don't have yet. I'm not sure how good the jensens sound yet, but they make good speakers for guitar amps. 20. *lol* I've already seen the same image with different words on harmony central though. Does bose make anything that's decent? Everything I've heard sounds like crap with an unbelievable price tag.
  21. A lot of stadiums use jbl's. I've never seen them use klipsch before, but then again they have the $ to buy what they want. They need speakers that can pump out high volumes. If you ever needed that much power for your house you would go deaf. I don't know that much about speakers so correct me if I'm wrong.
