  1. Well all I know is that the H/K sounds good to me. Seems to have pleanty of umph to push my klipchers. That makes me happy. Could use a bit more crunchy sound, and would like to have 7 powered channels like the equivelent Denon, but I think this H/K will do me justice for a while. Once THX really starts kicking into full swing on DVD's I just may upgrade to the HK AVR 8000. drool. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  5. Na, not yet. I still am using the original one now. It's just that the remote is flaky and hard to get into the setup and adjust things. I get my new receiver today. Even though the remote has been buggy, I have somehow managed to get things setup somewhat the way I expect it to be. I don't think the H/K was producing bad sound, but rather, i needed to make tweeks where I could. I have been much happier since I got my surrounds and biwired my fronts and center. I have not yet purchased a meter to balance the sound, but I think it's close. Also, I'm getting some bananna clips today for my surrounds. Right now the wires are just kind shoved into a hole in the side where the screw is. Which I found this to be odd. All the other speaker conntion screws I was able to completely screw out, but the surrounds I cant. So there is this little slot where you have to try and shove the wire into and somehow wrap it around the screw.... Odd, very odd that the surrounds are like this but not the others. Also, I am getting used to the sound. I think I was expecting a $10000.00 sounding system out of my 3,000.00+ system. Just aint going to happen. 6. Hey great info boa12.... And thats a big WHOO HOOO, my H/K has DTS 6.1 Discrete and Matrix. 8. Hmmm back to this topic.... Lets say I did want 7.1. Would it be important to stick with the refernce series, or are there some spearkers that are designed to be rears in a different line of speakers? Also, as skonopa mentioned, there is nothing that is 7.1. Are there any movements in the DVD industry to start making DVD's that support 7.1? If it's a good couple of years down the road before we start seeing 7.1 as a norm, then I would agree that 7.1 would be a waste of money. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  9. Spare money??? Oh my wife can assure you there is and will not be any spare money. I was not given a dollar amount I could spend up to. No no. Anything I spend now, comes out of my personal checking account, not our joint. But ya I was thinking about looking into a rear channel amp and speakers once I re-arrange my room again. Right now the way it's setup there is no place for me to put a rear speaker. My couch is already up against the wall that the rear would be mounted to. Hmm, how would that sound if I put one there anyway. My surrounds are about 1 foot forward from where they really should be, if I put a rear speaker directly above my head, would I even hear it? ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  11. Well, I can't even guess what prices will drop. Nor can I really Really REALLY comment about the KSW vs RSW. I went on blind faith that it was going to be a better sub. And I can tell you, I am NOT in the slightest dissapointed. Well actually I kinda am in one regards. For my room, the fact I have a wife and two little kids, I can't turn it up too loud very often. When I did have the chance once, not only did I hear it, but felt it very nicely vibrating the floor. Hmmm, I still want some transducers.... Me personally, I am one of those idiots that think, more is better also more expensive must mean better, which is why I got the best speakers I could squeeze out of my wife. For me, this is my starter system. I will replace and upgrade as the wife and pocketbook will allow. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-25-2002 at 12:44 PM

    Titan AE

So I rented it and watched the full thing last night. It has some great sound affects. The movie itself is not a blockbuster but, it is enjoyable and sounds great. I mentioned something about it on a different movie thread, but that was based on only hearing a demo of it in a showroom. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  14. So Ed, I have heard mentioned a couple of times now breaking in speakers. Is that really true? I have never heard of that before. How many good 5.1 movies do you have to listen to before they are broke in? Oh and one more question, that pic, is that in your house or a showrooom? If it's in your home, my gawd it must be incrdible. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-25-2002 at 10:42 AM
  15. Ya, I was watching Titan AE last night. It has DTS I noticed a BIG difference. DTS on that DVD was much clearer and brighter. But what I found odd though was that the DVD didn't have DTS 5.1 only 6.1. At least I couldn't get that option for some reason. That movie has some great sound affects in it. Especially later in the movie where you get to the chapter ICE Crystals or something to that affect. It's ICE something though. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  17. That's a good price, dblue. But don't forget about one crucial, peice of the puzzle. You will need to save a little in your budget for cableing and speaker wire. I have Monster 12 gage on all speakers with bananna clips that I put on myself. It all seems to be nice. I also biwired my two mains and center with smaller Monster cable, don't remember what size exactly but it was what they recommended. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  18. Rockon, Hey what ever you decide, do yourself a favor. Shop around obviously for the best price. Don't be afraid to walk out of the store. But most of all, if you want to save as much money as you can, do like I did( of course results will vary), but I got a quote for a system Klipsch R3-II series at Sound Distributors . I printed it off, took it to the a local authorized dealer. I said, look, I want to save you any myself time, I am looking for a klipsch system with these speakers, I have money to spend and I am going to buy today either here or some place else. Who ever is going to give me the best deal. We talked for few minutes then I showed him my quote, he was less than thrilled. He wanted to sell me the same system I had printed off, but with a much less sub. I think the KSW10. I said NO! I want the RSW12, I was firm with him. Bottom line is, I got them down $800.00 from what they would have sold thier display system with a RSW12. I almost got that sub at 1/2 price. Also, my Harmon Kardon, I priced it at the same internet shop I think. Anyway, I called the local dealer asked if they had what I wanted, he said yes, I told him what I had seen it on the internet for and for some strange reason they matched that price. I paid $640 for it. Harman Kardon has an MSRP of $999. So, my advice to you is, shop on the internet, buy in an authorized dealer store, insist on the price you seen on the internet and make sure they understand you have no problems buying it off the internet, rather you want to or not. They don't need to know. I saved a lot of money on my purchase. I had to. My wife was no to keen on the whole thing. I had to shop fast and save as much money as I could before she changed her mind. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-25-2002 at 01:29 AM

It does make it easier to listen to something and knowing if you end up not liking it, you can always return or exchange it. I agree 100% on this. I bought my receiver from a store, took it home, to make a long story short, wanted to return it and get my money back. They said no. We don't give money back only exchanges or in store credit. Crappy thing about that was, they had nothing that was even close to what I had purchased in quality. I was stuck with what I had purchased. Ended up being ok because I have decided to stay with this model of receiver after getting guidence of the folks here in the forum. I learned the hard way, that what skonopa said is VERY important. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  21. NA! Go with Harman Kardon AVR 520! Don't listen to skonopa. . Just kidding. Actually, they are both very good receivers. I have had to ask many questions reciently about harman kardon in the forums. I was seriously considering moving to the Denon he mentions, but I decided to stick with Harmon even though it seems like less of an receiver, it's really not. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f>

OMG, you are still using that? If that's the case, then audio equipment but not age nearly as fast as PC equipment. Oh and boa12, ya, I am done trying to worry about it. It's time to sit back and enjoy it. If I keep worrying about things like, "Should I have purchased this other receiver, or that other line of Klipsch speakers?", I will never be happy with what I got. That kind of defeats the purpose of buying the thing in the first place right? 23. Well, I should I feel inerrior because about 90% of everything you all have said has sounded like foreign audiofileaneese that hurt to read., or should I just be happy that I got the jist? I am happy that I got the jist of it all. that's why I am sticking with my Harmon Kardon. BTW, don't get me wrong, I do very much enjoy the tech talk. I may not understand it all the first time, but will reread it again. I often times need to read something, think about it, comeback and read it again before I really understand it. Not to mention, when people can explain it like you guys have, it makes me feel that your backing it up with fact, not just hear-say or personal opinion. 24. Part of my problem is that there are NO stores in my local area that sell Harman kardon and Denon together. Hell, I couldn't find a store that had Harman and Klipsch together either. I had to take my chances. I did hear Yamaha and Denon on the Klipsch, but by the time you get home and listen to the HK, you don't remember what you heard. Well, at least I don't. I do like the sound of the harman with my R3IIs, but something tells me that the R7's would sound really Really REALLY nice in my living room. I can tell you this, I am growing impatient. I have had my system for over a week now and I still have not yet had the chance to crank the power and GET IT ON! The wife and tator tots are always home. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-24-2002 at 02:58 PM
  25. quote: moon, folks have been telling you this about hk since your 1st post on here Alright, so I get too many things whoorling around in my melon to keep it all straight . Cheech! Chastize a guy why don't ya. Ok so then that settles it. I am keeping my Harman Kardon. So what if it doesnt have 7 powered channels. At least it does have channes 6 and 7 and I can add a amp later to push them. But if it produces a cleaner, then that's more important to me. Ya know, this is crazy.
