  1. I am considering some noise cancelling headphones for long flights. My wife has Denon and they are great! I think the Bose is better for isolation but supposedly sounds terrible in the air! Both of these isolate in the high 90% range. Any news on what range the Klipsch will isolate? I have all Klipsch gear at home so would love to "stay true"!!
  2. Hi!, I have experimented with exactly this problem and have finally decided on the best arrangement: SB-1's up front, SS-1's out back BUT the absolute best place I've found for them is in the corner with the woofer aiming into the room and the tweeters aiming along the side and back walls. This creates the most diffuse AND localized ambiance. When they are flush on the walls beside you or behind you, you will loose the spacious surround sound that you are looking for.
  3. There is a magazine here in Canada which published the RB3 graphs.....try this... http://www.audio-ideas.com/reviews/loudspeakers/klipschrb-3.html
  4. Prodj101, Thanks for the suggestion. I went Infinity after reading Floyd O'Toole's white paper on subwoofers. He says that bass is more dependent on the room than on the bass unit. The reason most subs have to be moved around is to find a spot where there are not summations of waves which cause boominess. That is why they invented the RABOS system of equalization. I tested that by moving the sub around to different locations in the room prior to equalizing it. Guess what? I ALWAYS had a large booming peak irrespective of where I placed the sub. After equalizing it the response was incredible. As far as I know Infinity is the only sub that does this which is why I use it. I was thinking about all the other subs like the SVS which everyone on the forum loves but I'm sure I would end up with the same boom as it is my room acoustics which will determine ultimate bass enjoyment - I think! Now I want to hook up the other subs to get a few more SPL's and am looking for suggestions as to how to do it. Thanks for yours!
  5. Here is one for you subwoofer geniuses! I have SP-1's as main speakers, each with powered subwoofers. To get more punch, to get lower (20Hz vs. 30Hz) and to even out my room response (which has a big peak at about 50 Hz) I bought an Infinity IL120S. It has the RABOS system which I calibrated the sub and room with and that took my response curve to within 3db from 20Hz to 150 Hz. If I hook up my SP-1's to the Infinity is there a way to do it without activating the 50Hz room peak? Can I filter out everything going to the SP-1's below say 55 Hz?
  6. I was wondering about the sound that would be created using something like the ss-1's for all 5 speakers. It seems to me that the little Mirage omnipolars work that way as do the Definitive Technology speakers. It would be a very diffuse sound field but with localization the others would not have. Comments?
  7. Thanks! As usual, you are a wealth of info!
  8. I saw that the SVS box subs use a sound reflection board to bounce the soundwaves off. Is this something the Klipsch subs would benefit from?
  9. I wonder if you experts out there could help me? I am wondering if an amp is a necessary piece of equipment. I have an Onkyo 797 which supposedly can output 100 amps of power into each channel. Would another amp be of benefit? I have Klipsch SP-1, SC-1, SS1 and an infinity il120s subwoofer. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the info - I sent you an e-mail.
  11. Yes, I am adding a sub to my system. I have Klipsch SP-1's, SC-1, SS-1. BUT, NO SUB. The Sp-1's each have powered 8"subwoofers in them but they don't generate the deep rumble I want. Klipsch subs don't get deep enough either which is too bad because oterwise I'ld match them up. The PW-2200's go as deep as 18Hz and for a retail of CDN $950 they are a good buy. I spent a lot of time looking at the SVS site but although dollars are similar the hassle of shipping and cross border stuff is something I want to avoid. My ears and room will probably not notice a huge difference between the PW-2200 and the SVS, at least that is what I have been told. Your thoughts?!
  12. If anyone in Canada, specifically Vancouver is going SVS and getting rid of a Paradigm PW-2200 I would like to talk to you!
  13. My normal state of confusion was just made worse when I realized that banana plugs, spades and pins exist. Are these needed? Which is better? What brand is best? Should the receiver connections be the same type as on my Klipsch? I have monster cable 12 gauge and its connecting to an Onkyo 797. Thanks
  14. I have a lead on some Heresy speakers. Are they worth buying? At what price? These are listed at $450 Canadian. Are there some things I should look for or look out for? What are they best for - music, movies? What would I have to look for to round out a perfect HT with them? Maybe I should just offer HornEd a whole whack of cash for his stuff and save myself years of abdominal upset?!? By the way, I purchased some SS-1's last week and the surround sound from them is so much better than the monopoles I was using as rears. Thanks for all your help!
