  1. I called Harman Kardon to compair the HK AVR 520 to the Denon AVR3802. I asked about the difference in watts why Denon was so much heigher, yet the prices were the same. He said that HK operates at a much heigher current than denon which balances out the fact that the HK only puts out 75 watts vs the Denon which puts out 110 watts. He also said the when you pump out heigher current, less watts, it produces a cleaner sound than lower current heigher watts. Any truth to this? ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-24-2002 at 03:02 PM

  4. Dude, that is insane! I have the RSW12 and my gawd I have more than enough crystal clear base. But, if your happy thats what matters. 5. skonopa, whoa dude. I didn't realize it had 7 discrete channels. I just went back and read up on that receiver again, for some reason I totally missed that. Wow.... Hmmm Now I really have to really reconsider how hard I want to try and get my money back on on Harman Kardon.... But damn. I got such a good deal on my Harman. I only paid $640.00 for it. Hmmmm, I have a buddy that was talking about buying it from me. By looking at the picture, I can't tell, but does it have a display that shows you which speaker mode your in. eg, stereo, 5.1 etc? The harman does. It will show you which speakers are playing. Really cool feature. Outside of the fact that the denon has 7 discrete channels, what would other people choose. Here are the spec sheets. Denon AVR 3802 Or Harman Kardon AVR 520 I guess I want to know if the price difference of $259 is really worth it. I come up with that price difference because as I said, I got my Harman for $640 and I have been quoted on the Denon for $899 ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-24-2002 at 12:11 AM
  6. Ya, I had thought about getting that same receiver if I could have gotten my money back from the store where I bought my Harman. Nothing agaist the Harman, I guess I just wanted to check something else out. I thought about going with a single speaker like that. But what I was thinking about doing was replacing my existing center with a RC-7 then putting the RC-3II in the back. But I have not made up my mind on what to do. Not sure if I want one or two rear speakers. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  7. Ok based on the system I have, what would be some good klipsch rear speakers? My Harman Kardon does not have power out to 6.1 or 7.1 so I would need an amp, but none the less, what would be good rears. Also, is it even worth it right now? Are there very many movies that even have 6.1 or 7.1? Thanks all. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  8. Ya? Night Mode? Hmmm, I know my Harman has night mode. I have not played with it, but that does not mean it was not set by the previous owner of the receiver, who retuned it to the store that sold it to me and said it was brand new. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  10. My problem is not a hiss, but rather a nasty *** buzz sound when the volume is very low. I don't hear it when I have a decent level of volume. I have Monster Cable Home Theater Bar , suppose you could say it's a Home Theater Condom, keeps it protected . But still I get a buzz. Anoying as hell but I suppose it's better than hiss at high volumes. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-23-2002 at 06:20 PM
  11. Heh, boa12. Actually, I have done the test tone thing. Durring test tones, it produces a constant level of volume. It's just when watching DVD. At any rate, I am getting yet another Harman Kardon 520 on thrusday. I am taking this one back. I have been going round and round with a local dealer. I suspect they sold me a referbished receiver. Or one that had been previously sold. There were settings that were not factor default, the remote was missing, FM and AM antina was missing as well as the registration card. I really want my money back but apparently they have a store policy that I can only exchange or get an instore credit. I didn't know this when i walked out the door with it. After speaking with some other dealers around town, they all the same horrible things to say about the store where I bought my receiver. Actually I am calling Harman Kardon this morning to find out if there has been any maintenance done on this receiver. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  12. So I don't know if it's to be expected or not. But, when watching a DVD, the center channel seems to fluxuate in volume. Lets say there is some action going on. The voices in the center seem loud enough to hear just fine, but if the action goes away and all you here are just voices, you can hardly hear them. However, watching regular TV, I don't seem to get that. My speaker levels are all set to 0 with the exception of the surrounds. My base volume level is also set to 0 I belive. Could there be a flaw in the receiver or is this just to be expected with 5.1? Are there any ways that I can test to ensure that something could be wrong vs. just the way the movie was made? Something like a test DVD. I admit, i have not yet been able to completely adjust my speaker settings because my remote is so geeked out. Nor have I purchased a SPL meter to adjust them. Thanks all. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-23-2002 at 12:21 AM

  14. Hey thank guys. Your tips do help. Now, that I just got chewed on by the wife, I need to ask if there are tweeks you can make that keep the volume when watching TV/DVD what ever at more of a constant volume rather than low and all of a sudden some action seen happens and everything rattles in the house from the explosion or what ever. Can that even be done? Thanks all. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  15. I don't have a db level meter yet so I don't know exactly how well my system is balanced. However, I have suspect that my surrounds are going to need to be cranked rather high to get them balanced out. This is because of the hight and how far appart they are. If, for example when I am adjusting my system, if talking my surrounds all the way up to 10 does not balance the sound, that would mean I would have to take the center channel below 0 right?. If I have to take my center and main channels below 0 to balance the surrounds, will that have a bad impact on overall sound quality of the system? Thanks all. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  16. Hey all. So, I have rearranged my living room. I had everything in a corner. Now it's up against a wall. For some reason that seemed to make it sound better. I would not have thought so, but it did. Also, I bi-wired my center and two mains. That too seemed to help. Just a little but it did seem to help, mostly in my center which was really lacking sound. I got my surrounds up. The connection to the back of the receiver is not very good because I was having a hard time getting the wire looped around the screw. For some reason, I could not take the surround screws all the way out of the back of the receiver, not to mention there is plastic casing if you will, arround the screw with just a small slot to get the wire in. I I know it can't be making all that good of a connection so I am going to the store to get some bananna clips for them. My only issue with the surrounds right now is that they are about 1 foot too high. I know they are supposed to be about 2 foot above your listening level right? Well, these are more like 3 to 4 foot heigher than my head when I sit on the couch. Unfortunitily, there is not much I can do about it because of a bi-fold door being right where I needed to mount my speaker. So, I needed to take them up about an extra foot. Things do sound better. Not exactly as I want, but I think the only thing that's going to help that is throwing more money at it. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>
  17. Ok, so where I need to mount one of my surrounds there is a door. Also, to put it above the door would be too high. So what I want to do, find a wall mount speaker stand that I can mount to the side of the door that has kind of a swing arm that can swivel both left and right. Thus when I need to open my door, I can swivil it out of the way. Also, it would be nice if the tray it was sitting on could swivil also. This is as close as I can find to what I want. It would be ok if it had a tray on top. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c> Microsoft XBOXc> f>

  20. GAWD DAMN IT! For the last three hours, I have been impatiently waiting to get off work so I could go exchange the RS-3II's for the RS-7. I was looking at the printout I made, then all of a sudden, out of know where, I see the word Each! For the life of me, I don't know how I could have missed that. It's right there too. I feel like such a fool! For three hours, I have practicly been doing the happy dance in my cube. 21. I am looking at a web site for a local dealer and they are selling the RS-7s cheaper than the RS-3IIs. I call to confirm this, and it is indeed correct. Basically I just want a sanity check here. Klipsch lists the RS-7 at $999.00 a pair and the RS-3II for $550.00 a pair. Now that tells me the RS-7 is a better speaker right? Oh hell. If this is indeed correct, I am soooOOOOooo glad I have not gotten my surrounds yet because I will upgrade to them and get some money back! 24. Ok, so I don't have my surrounds yet because they are on back order. I have a set of 4.1 promedia PC speakers. Can I hook those up to my Harman Kardon without blowing the crap out of them and use them for my surrounds? Hell, for that matter, can I directly hook up the other two ProMedia satelites to the fronts?
