  1. I did confirm this: with the Jupiters (and Jensens) I can use the stock settings, with polypropylenes, I have to drop the midrange output down 3dB, if I don't, the squawker dominates the signature

    So, you are saying those caps soak up and dissipate half the power, 3db?

  2. I think he is willing to send the crossover to me, but that is not my preferred way if I can work anything else out. That crossover is displayed as part of the front of that speaker. I would much prefer to build him a set of replacements and let him just leave the factory ones in place. I have an email in to a German friend of mine who is deep into audio. Since these were marketed to Europe and the Far East, he may have info on them.

    They are not mine. Trying to help a customer who is having crossover problems with his. I think he is in Japan.

    How do you go to EV these days? The plant in Morrilton is closed now. I have a link that used to take me to the EV archives for schematics, but that link does not work now.

  4. Why does my reading look thicker or not so much just a line. This is the EV hp 640 with the Faital PRO HF-200

    My testing is center of the horn at one meter. You are not using any smoothing, so you will not get a line. The driver used on the horn makes a lot of difference. A K-69 has a much rougher raw curve than the Faital HF200 on the K-402 horn.

  5. Arash is right. No US citizen can sell anything to anyone in Iran. Also, you cannot ship to a third country if the ultimate destination is Iran. Another point, no US citizen can accept a payment if the origin of the payment is Iran even if the payment is routed through a third country. Now I got to hear all this directly from a US customs agent when I did try to ship something to Arash. So, I do not want to get that phone call again.

    I own a pair of Chorus II's (S#158591686). I replaced the OEM tweeter diaphragms w/Crites titanium and like the results.

    I want to replace the mid range diaphragms w/titaniums from Crites and was told the crossovers have to be replaced along w/the diaphragm.

    Question is this. I hear Klipsch has an updated version of the mid-range diaphragm that's a big improvement over the originals I have. With the new Klipsch diaphragm a new crossover is not necessary.

    Are the new Klipsch diaphragms worth buying?

    The alternative is Crites Titaniums along with crossovers. Pretty pricy. Any thoughts?

    Last, are the original crossovers worth keeping or should they be replaced?

    Just to repeat this again. I do not have nor have I ever had any titanium midrange diaphragms. The only ones of those available are from Klipsch and if you do manage to get Klipsch to sell them, you will need a modification to the crossover to put a bandpass on the midrange to limit how high the titanium midrange diaphragms go.

  7. I'd like to know where this mystical titanium midrange diaphragm is that everyone keeps talking about - link please.

    So, tell us about inductors.

    That is the titanium midrange diaphragm for the Heresy III and the Cornwall III and some of the Klipsch Pro speakers made before those. This Ti diaphragm goes higher than the original phenolic, so is always used with a midrange bandpass circuit in the crossovers that use it from the factory. Most that have this diaphragm have tricked or misled Klipsch Parts into selling it to them. This diaphragm will fit fine replacing the stock phenolics in the Forte, Chorus, Heresy II, Cornwall II, KLF20 and 30, but what you get is the midrange at full output all the way to 7khz and the tweeter at full output also by that frequency. Gives a big nasty peak at 6 to 7Khz when you look at the acoustic output.

    Of course a bandpass circuit can be added to the existing crossover getting by that problem. What people need to understand however, is that a significant number of people have managed to get the titanium midrange diaphragms, discovered that they sound terrible and installed a bandpass circuit. That made some happy, but not everyone. Some then go back to the original phenolic diaphragm. I don't know what percentage this is of those who have tried them and ended up going back to original, but it is a significant number. You would never know that from reading the forums because seems people who like them are much "louder" on forums than those who do not like them.

  8. I think I have probably posted this before, but not sure where it might be. Anyway, back in 2004, a forum member sent me the two K-33Es (square magnet) out of his Khorn pair. These were originals from the factory. I wanted to measure the T/S specs on them to see how they tested and to see how similar they were after 30 years (at that time). Also, we wanted to see how they compared to a new K-33E with the round magnet. John Warren assisted me with the test setup and I and my son Michael did the testing. Results are attached.

  9. Would it be too much to ask, when reviewing these crossover to list the horns and drivers being used, as some may not be suited for the crossovers being used.

    For instance I see a lot of Cornscala's out there that have the Selenium D-405 driver coupled to the JBL 2380 clone horn. This combo is not compatible with a 6k crossover because the D-405 start to roll off around 4K, and it has a rated SPL of 111. This is going to use a bit more attenuation than the K-55, and requires a different crossover point. For this combination, ALK offers a 400hz-4khz crossover option.

    Dave,

    I don't know of any Cornscalas that have been with the D405TI driver you have posted the specs for. Several hundred have been built with the phenolic diaphragm version.
