I am only 18... what a weirdo. ---------------- This is an amazing film. The first time I saw it, it shocked me. I mean Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton are just captivating in this. You don`t know what is going to happen next. It seems so real. And it being in B/W gives it an extra layer. Wow! This film just keeps on giving even after the 5th time I`ve seen it. It`s a late nighter. Watch it alone.
  2. Wow! Push/Pull, SET, A class, AB class. This thread is a weatlh of information for anyone that is just getting in to tubes. I don`t have tubes yet, but I`ve got a real good imagination of what they would sound like. I`m just a few months away. It`s going to happen.

  4. Anything that a record will fit in, is good for storage. Just don`t lay them flat. and even then there won`t be a problem unless you have alot of them which means more weight on the bottom ones. Vinyl, what a great habit to pick up. Just curious Rob, how old are you?
  5. Well, maybe Mobil does answer my question. Does make sense. Here`s what I think he is saying. The longer the road, the weaker the load. Yes. I understand.
  6. I love the open mindedness of everyones answers. Play it the way it sounds the best to you. Coming from a group that is concerned about how many watts is coming out of your outlet and how many pillows are in the room at one time, I am impressed with the EACME tolerance.I guessed that the signal would be cleaner without them,(the controls). But does that mean that the sound is as clean with the controls at flat as it is with a unit that does not have them at all? This is getting at the heart of the question.
  7. You are right. With my controls at flat, and when I think I need a little more bass or treble, by just turning the volume up I get what I need. But who decided that high end equipment should not have these features and "everyday average common man equipment",(that`s EACME from now on), does?
  8. Question. When I listen to my integrated Onkyo amp, should I have the tone and loudness controls at flat? The reason I ask this is because all the pre-amps for tubes that I have seen, don`t have these features. I don`t want to bump up my sound artificially and think my amp sounds better then one that does not have this kind of control.
  9. Now what is an electronic cross-over? I have heard about people bi-amping these speakers but I don`t quiet understand how it`s done.
  10. Has anyone out there heard a pair of ESS speakers,( I have the AMT 1B`s)and compared the sound to, say some Cornwalls? The ESS`s efficiency at 1 watt is 90db at 1 meter. I know the Cornwalls are much more efficient. I`m looking at getting some tubes in the near future and am wondering how the Heil Air-Motion Transformer would mate with this kind of amp. Cornwalls seems to love a tube set-up. I`m thinking I would need more power than 3.5 watts per side. My room size is 22'x15'.
  11. My original post did`nt go through. It was a good one that I`ll save for later in another (records) thread.
  12. Man,it`s nice to find a group of people on the same musical page as myself. The 80`s were full of great bands that no one new or heard of. I saw the Minute Men,Husker,Meat Puppets,Replacements,Black Flag and many others of that day including Gang of Four, the original 4. What a band. There`s still a lot of good music being made today, but still, there is an element from then that is missing now. God, the late 70`s through the 80`s was an awesome time for great rock`n roll.
  13. Hey, I got a question. How do you know how many dbs you`re listen`n to? Is there a meter you can get or......? I`m kind of new to this " high end" talk. I`m looking in to being a player myself. Thanks.

What do they sound like? BB This message has been edited by Big Bean on 01-14-2002 at 10:50 PM ---------------- I`ve got a set of AMT 1B`s from `82. Never had a problem with the heil. I need to replace the woofers though, because the outer edge has dry rotted. They still sound good. At low volume they are so open and airy.
