  1. Thanks for the feedback. I know it's tough to see due to the temp sounds panels but the speakers are toed in towards the listening position... but I will play with them and see how it changes.
  2. The set up needs some work but I can finally sit down and spend some time listening to them. (Note, Heresy II's not hooked up, I just needed a place to put them).
  3. Since I cannot keep from tinkering... any my 2 sons are home from college, we moved / cleaned a ton of stuff in the basement and moved my entire audio system 90 degrees. I now have more space (roughly 11' apart and 11' from my listening position) so I'll continue to play and tweak.
  4. I hadn't heard that before but it makes sense. Thank you very much!
  5. DJK port.... going down the rabbit hole in 3... 2..... 1..... 😁
  6. The room is odd shaped, I just listed the size for a rough description. there is an office in the back the sticks out, etc.
  7. Thank you but I'm somewhat "landlocked". If I move them further apart I'm blocking a doorway and I'm behind a pole if I move my seat back.....
  8. I recently picked up a set of 1983-vintage La Scalas and I've been having some fun with them. However, I'm curious to find out if there are any tips to help me with the set up. I have my gear in the basement and the room is roughly 26' x 38'. However, I have a steel support pole smack in the middle. As a result my listening area is much smaller given that I really don't have to have to deal with a pole in between my listening position and a speaker. Basically my speakers are about 9' apart and my listening seat is 9' feet away. One thing I notice is that my head is higher than the speaker and I'm worried that I am not getting full dispersion sitting that close / above the speakers. I was thinking about making some risers to get the speaker a bit higher and see what that sounds like. However, before I charge off and start cutting / building I thought I would seek some advice from the members of this forum. I should add that I am willing to admit that the La Scalas maybe too large for my area... but I couldn't pass up the chance to play with a pair and learn what they are capable of. Thank you in advance.
  9. Turns out 5-hour energy drink really works for me. Got home last night and I couldn't sleep so I spent some time cleaning up the LaScalas (they came out of an old church... very dusty) and got them up and running. Did some tube rolling this morning; the Electro Harnomix Fat Bottles I was running sounded great with my Heresy 2's but very thin-sounding with the LaScalas. Went back to my Nesstone EL34's and have been sitting here enjoying them ever since. I now understand why these are so popular... Like they say, there is no replacement for displacement....
  10. Thanks, I've been out of town since I bought them but I'm hoping to get them up and running tomorrow.
  11. Thank you. However, after doing some research it looks like Klipsch only offered the AL crossover in 1983 so I think that narrows it down a bit 😉
  12. Well, never one to leave things alone I ended up finally buying a set of LaScalas. The label is very faded and I'm having a hard time making out the serial number. Is there another spot where I can find it? They have the AL crossover so I know they are post 1983... I'll try to post some pics once I get them cleaned up.
  13. I've know of Klipsch for decades and even owned a cheap pair of SF-2 tower speakers just to try them out. However, y first experience with the Heritage series happened for me recently... New to me Heresy 2's and the first thing I played was Cannoball Adderley's Something Else on vinyl via my tube amp and tube preamp. It was eye opening. it felt like I was listening in the club while the band was playing. Great dispersion and soundstage, articulate highs... overall a very pleasing experience. I like to listen to music on the media that it was originally recorded / released on (50's, 60's, 70's - Vinyl, 80's, early 90's CD, etc) and this set up is what I think it must have been like "back in the day" when this was first released.
  14. I have an interesting one that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have a pair of Heresy 2's that, according to the serial number records, were build the week of Jan 15, 1986. However, according to the work order tag I found on the inside the cabinet shop built them 10/1/86 and the sanding dept sanded them on 10/2/86.... Is this normal?? Did did they issue batch serial numbers then just not build the product until they needed it?
  15. I'll post something on a different thread so I don't highjack this one.
  16. I'm glad I found this thread... I just bought a pair of HII's but I just assumed they were 8 ohm (I know, rookie mistake) and it turns out they are 4 ohm... time to change where I have them connected to my tube amp....
  17. I just wanted to circle back and wrap up this thread. I ended up buy a set of Heresey II's from the original owner. While they are not La Scalas they will allow me to dip my toe into the Klipsch Heritage pool and get my feet wet, so to speak. Thank you once again for all of the info and advice.
  18. Thanks to everyone for their time and advice. Turns out the seller decided to NOT honor our deal and sold them to someone else. Guess I will keep looking.
  19. More follow up, I just got off the phone with the folks at JEM performance. They still rebuild crossovers so I will send them mine and they can make sure everything is up to snuff. I can solder but this way they can inspect everything and replace / correct as needed.
  20. Great advice, everyone, thank you. Due to my total newbie status on the board I cannot "like" any more posts today.... however, please consider all advice "liked"!!
  21. At a minimum I was planning on running new speaker wires and connectors.
  22. Pretty much what I was thinking. I have an email into JEM performance asking about a crossover rebuild....
  23. Not yet. However, I've been watching online sales for a while so I have an idea when they are going for... I'm comfortable with the deal we have tentatively struck, I just wanted to be aware of any known issues... provided they are just good, solid, old La Scalas I should be in good shape. I'll update the post once I have a chance to see / listen to them in person.
