  1. I bought a pair of these new in the late 80s. They were my first pair of Klipsh. I regret the day I sold them. They will not disappoint the new owner as the sound is jaw dropping. Great price for a speaker that rarely shows up for sale. They would be mine if they were closer.

In my humble opinion and according to my half century plus of buying and selling, I offer this:

An auction starting at 1¢ will give you the actual value on your speakers!

They are worth what someone will pay at that time and place, and nothing more.  BUT:

If you start your auction at 1¢ with no reserve, people will start competing with each other for your item.  It becomes a battle and people are invested in the outcome.  They will most likely not go for any less than $1,400, and if the bidding gets "heated", they could go for more than that (but this is unlikely due to perceived condition issues).  As things currently stand, people will not get into a bidding war when you start at a price they would not be willing to pay for these speakers.  I've seen dozens of speakers be on Craigslist constantly, for a year or more with no buyers sniffing around.  I've watched this guy in my town try to sell a KV3 center speaker for over a year (he must have thought he struck it rich!).  He started at $200 (somewhere near there), and has dropped the price periodically ever since.  He's down to $50 and still is not getting any takers.  Klipsch KV3 Center Channel Speaker - electronics - by owner - sale (craigslist.org)  I have alerts set up for Klipsch on this same local Craigslist (Ocala), and I get an email almost daily alerting on this speaker.  People get used to seeing and ignoring that ad over time.  I know I have.  I also watched a pair of black La Scala in Ocala take a couple of years to sell on OfferUp.  This guy was asking $800 for the pair, and they were not too much worse that yours other than a couple of big dings.  They finally did sell about 3 months ago.

Your pictures make the speakers look beat up and very dirty.  If you do nothing more than giving them a good scrubbing with the above mentioned products (even a quick rubdown with Old English Dark will clean them up and darken the areas where there are chips in the veneer!), they will look somewhat glossy again and the overall impression of being so dirty will evaporate somewhat.

They're not in a condition where I could drop them straight into my living room.  The wife aggro alone would not allow me to use them straight away  (known as WAF around here, the Wife Acceptance Factor).  A lot of buyers will be feeling the same.  This puts your speakers into the "restoration project" category, and La Scala projects do not sell for 2 grand.

You can take my advice or totally dismiss me, but these facts will still remain an issue that will limit your sale.  Once you get them to be extremely appealing in your pictures, you might have a chance to sell them for your desired price of $2K.

    Good luck.

    Excellent advise, all of it!

  3. Thanks for the input pcbiz.   I’ve been searching for a pair of LSBR in my area at a realistic price. There is another pair currently on eBay that are located in Annapolis.  They are about the same price as these but they have type AA crossover and K 55 mids.  They look to be in a little better shape, $1300 is about what I was thinking for these but it’s so far from the asking price,  I didn’t want to offend the seller. I’ll give it some time and see if he drops the price. In the meantime I’ll keep looking

I would guess that you smart guys will be shocked at what these will sell for eventually....eventually....The Asian and European audio markets are absolutely smoking, and those folks are acquiring a lot of gear.  If you think I'm joking, just take a look at some of the vintage Marantz receiver prices on all of the major social networks.  Amazing appreciation all up and down the product line.

This seller is obviously several years ahead on his starting bid and even further on his buy it now. However, I agree that “eventually “ seems to coming faster than we imagined.

  5. Thank you all for the information. I had read only a couple favorable reviews of these as a drop in replacement for a K22 in Heresys. At only about $72 each from PE, I gave them a try. No, I did  not add a port (but not ruling that out), or use any equipment other than my ears to test them. I installed one at a time and did an A/B comparison and I noticed an improvement across the spectrum. I’m reluctant to recommend, as sonic tastes are subjective, but I found them to be a noticeable improvement for little money.

I don't think I've recorded that many sales from the great state of Maryland.

You make a great point, albeit humorous but true that regional prices and local prices can vary greatly from national averages.  California and Texas come to mind for high prices whereas deals can often be found in Florida.  For TX and CA you can just about take the spreadsheet average and add 20%.  I guess I have to put Maryland on that list as well!

Good luck bargain hunting.  I still maintain, deals are out there!  -Dave

Thanks Dave, I’ll continue with my hunt. Heritage speakers rarely show up for sale on Mayland’s Eastern shore regardless of price. Probably just as well, I’d run out of room (or money)😀.

First of all I found out I did separate Good condition from Avg/poor, I had forgotten.

Good Condition = 1089 (I changed a sale category so it would average for a sale that was 2 standard deviations from the mean.  It added $89 to the average)

    Avg/poor Condition = 840

I was right about a couple of things.  I only had about 15 confirmed sales.  That's not very many.

I was also right about the wide variance of sale prices.  I have a confirmed price by a forum member for $800 April 2019.

I have a sale for 1750 Nov 2020 and it included the travel cases.

I have a sale for 2149 in California April 2019

    There's more, but nothing recent.

Here's the latest version of the Heritage Prices spreadsheet.  Feel free to download and research what info is best for you.

Wow,If only I could purchase them in my area for these prices! Hmm, I’ll take three pairs of LaScalas, two pairs of Cornwalls, and a few pairs of Heresys.

  8. Thanks PED, I understand your response. The value of Klipsh speakers varies considerably depending on location. If your willing to ship them, you will most likely get a higher price from a broader audience. However,  I agree that a local, in person sale, without the hassles of shipping is preferable. Good luck with your local sale. BTW, the average shipping cost I’ve paid for my last few pairs of Heresy’s has been about $150.

  9. You’ve just got some new speakers or you’ve completed some modifications to a pair. Now it’s time to listen to them for the first time. Do you have a go to recording that that you play for this purpose, or do you just grab something off the shelf?

For many years I have used Post Toastee by Tommy Bolin to audition my new or modified speakers. For me, it’s a good mix of  vocals, strings, percussion, and horns that reveal the strengths  or shortcomings of the speakers. Do any of you have a standard you use for fist time auditions?
