  1. A precision is a very good fretted instrument. No argument there. frets and fretless is like comparing analog to digital. There are fixed points and little in between. Yeah, you can bend a note on frets, but. they are two different instruments covering the same range. How would you compare playing slide guitar to a "regular" guitar?
  2. Mornin' All Happy day to all you muthas... and your mothers The winter garden appears to be a success. A couple puff will keep me from doing stupid things. Lucky to remain upright in my chair. That'll keep me out of trouble. Wife is going to church... I'm gonna do the floors while she's gone. Got a fly by from the BorderPatrol yesterday. Low and fast. Minimum altitude was observed... The helicopter was off the ground... barely. If it 50ft up, that would be a generous estimate.I presume they were chasing someone. Followed the road. Weather might be why they were so low... I seriously doubt that, though.Whatever was happening, it wasn't here ... in town. We received some precipitation... rain.. maybe 1/4 in. Enough to make things wet and cool it down. Surprised there don't seem to be any fires from the lightning. Was almost like a monsoon day. Clear/warm AM... clouded up early afternoon and busted loose with some rain. Strange for May or June. We don't normally get any rain during this time. They say we have a chance for more today.
  3. fretless instruments are crazy hard to learn y'all have been to grade school orchestra concerts.... in the hands of someone learned.... wow I had a Hohner Contessa fretless... gave it to a friend
  4. my wife likes bacon. she cooks it by the pound. Ask her what she's having for breakfast ,"Bacon" How's everyone? Polar vortex... again? I do remember it snowing in late May, as a child in IN. Only once... that was plenty. Basking .... It is going to be a nice day here. Near seasonable temps, before seasonable is 100`
  5. got me there... if things weren't the way they are with the stay home... I had planned on being at the lake once a week. I could still go... too many people "staying home" out there. Getting a wee stircrazy... projects??? ha ha ha I keep busy for not having anything to do. Just things I would rather be doing...
  6. been retired for a few years. It ain't all it's cracked up to be. Not until the wife retires, do I get full retirement. I am getting the hang of doing less more slowly, though Had to take one of the cats to the vet today. He got chewed up in a fight. He was on the mend, just wanted him checked out. Got a shot of antibiotics and a painkiller. Came home and looked at the bill. $0.50 on the credit card... I know they work cheap, but.... The bill was $50... I called them to rectify the situation. .Wife takes the kid to "their" church.. their son is the preacher [I guess]. Asked me to come this Sunday. we got a dose of unusual weather. It tried to rain. Overcast and under 90`. I opened the house up early afternoon. Was still over the average, compared to 100`, under 90 is cool. It tried to rain.... the humidity jumped up to 10% with a dew point in the low 30's. It came from the clouds... just dinna complete the trip.Gonna be a warm evening. The humidity moderates the temp.
  7. I waited until I was 50+ to get hitched. Stuck with her for ... coming on 13 years now.
  8. I guess so. Elkhart IN is the biggest town I've lived in. You folks were talking about culture shock when I was in DC.... yeah, they were quite shocked by me. ... and I wasn't wearing my sarong. Bib O's and my robe was enough.
  9. Vegas is only a 5hr flight away from HI. Folks exercised that option, often
  10. now you're making it sound like Kauai...... except you will get flack for driving 90 min to find a beach.
  11. you wouldn't recognize this place as a town. We slow folks down to 25 so you can see all we have to offer.... the Mercantile, LaGuitana[the bar], post office, coffee roaster, clinic, vet and Virginia's.. A cook shack that serve homestyle Mex. You sit on tables outdoors. There is more... 5 churches, library, ............my house... but wait... there's more if should come now we will include the cemetery and old school house
  12. I was there for 3 weeks.... Was glad to get back to wide open spaces. I had to smoke outdoors. neighbor of my host called to tell her there was a scarecrow on fire in their back yard...
  13. Wife got a job offer from GeorgetownU.... I asked her if she could handle teaching adults? She not taking or even thinking. Good thing... I couldn't live in that area. My buddy lived in Baltimore and commuted to DC. WAAAAAAY too much city for this country boy.
  14. ....if we get average temps, it will feel cold. I have this feeling our temps are going to stay where they are until the average catches up to them. At the beginning of this warm, the ave temp was around 82`.... it is now up to 86`.
  15. me too it is scary when I'm found there will be an unusual sigh of relief from parents as school "lets out" this year... I bet teachers get more appreciation after this remote schooling experiment.
  16. I don't got money ... but, I have music, now spot decided to run for me... still have no idea why it stopped. I let myself "off the hook" for wife's b'day present this year... Her day is next week... I have a horrible track record buying her things ... so, I'm giving her $1000 to spend as she pleases.
  17. no.... Should have gotten mine via SSI... but, wife is still working and it is tied up in the income taxes. We haven't filed for '19 yet. I can't say this is unexpected. We are well below that $150,000 income level... I just know how the govt works.
  18. it's fresh here, too. Not for long... the sun is coming. Have a few minutes before I have to close the house. Ya wanna get warm? Go outside. Yard pick up???? I have a brush pile and a weed pile. Eventually, the weed pile will turn to tillable soil. Brush pile is future kindling. Sprayed some water around the garden. Should be OK for the day. My knee isn't as bad as yesterday. Still not running/jumping or even walking normal. I am ambulatory.
  19. I guess I missed out on some cultural activities while I was hitch-hiking around the country? That was how I used to spend my summer. You guys talk about some of the dives you spent the night at.... well, I dinna have to worry about bed bugs.... black widows and scorpions, yes. Good morning all, ....or Good evening, if you are a night owl. Can't get spotify to work now... yt is OK...So, yt it is. Wifi signal is weak, at best, in the doghouse... Spot will load, very slowly... not play Should try it in the house. Found something I lost 5 years ago. Was raking up dry weeds and came across the drive sprocket for one of my electric chainsaws. Been waiting for it to turn up. Gave up looking for it. Now, I wonder if I still have the saw? Funny thing, the sprocket was right where I remember it coming off. Spent yesterday chasing wilting plants with the hose. Our day/night temp difference eclipsed 50`. It was below 50` yesterday AM and over 100` at 3PM. Looks like the same today. R/H was 5 or 6%. @babadono do you get that foggy season, in June, that I've heard about? Wife got a bag of flour. Gal brought it from Mexico. Wife told her "20 lb"... we got 20 kilos. Of course, I bought 10lb at the store the day before. We're set for a while. Wife did get the lady's recipe for tortillas. Said the gal's face lit up when she finally got it across to her that we were going to [try to] make tortillas. I bet she is snickering inside. Simple recipe... the trick is patting them out. Some technique involved in that. This should be a fun family activity...
  20. no marine influence here. We do get some Army and NationalGuard... the AirForce makes thunder... Wet? Not really. 105` in Tucson. R/H is in single digits. Below 50` this AM. I did fill the "pool". Afraid to get in... errrrr,,, getting out. That 100`+ and chill thing.
  21. the one with the Fortes hanging face down from the ceiling?
  22. Mornin' All another fresh AM... Saw the low yesterday... 47`. Similar this AM. Don't think the house got over 80`. Outside --100`. Mind you, we don't have A/C or even a swamp box cooler. We have several swamp boxes... 4. None hooked up. No real need. The only time we might use them, they won't work. Rainy season. The only person I have to please, in the house, is the wife. I kinda think she conceded to the LS. She says she likes them - the looks. The folded horn disguises them from being simply big speakers. Hyperextended my knee last night. Gimping around. Guess I'll be taking the day off. Wife will be at the school today. Admin work. Like the joke about the cows coming and going ... but, the bull goes on forever. Should be wrapping it up for the school year. They're normally out the last week of May. Kitten is fine. With the "meat shortage", I bet we see a lot of local butchering. They were saying that beef on the hoof is down to $1/lb. The processing plants are stuffed up. This is something [the local processing] that may stick around after things settle down. I saw a miracle gro ad touting "Victory gardens"... that's what we used to call my garden choice/s... well... sun is up and this damn coffee cup is still empty.
  23. mine is. I bet it's called cacciatore or something like that. The family recipe used wings... then they got expensive. I use thighs... bang for buck.... In this house, its chicken spaghetti, too. Made the same as with burger or meatballs. I used to spend some time in "gentleman's clubs".... I was dating the DJ/house mother. Can't say I didn't have fun. $10 would last me all evening. Enjoyed the music. The gal I was dating had good taste in music. Her choices in men was questionable --- me.
  24. my day ended early cutting weeds, I clipped one of the kittens with the whip sickle . She is OK... I'm a wreck I didn't catch her in the power stroke. She was out of my sight, watching too closely... Scared/worried me half to death... Yeah.. I get that way went to see what good was at the used food store. Brought home lunch. Salmon, wild rice and a Caesar salad. Box lunch things from Sprout's [not affiliated].. Looks like I will be learning to make tortillas. Yeast is getting hard to find/get. That and do sour dough bread. Our local sour dough isn't very sour... That's OK... I just do not like bread that turns to a gummy doughball and sticks to the roof of my mouth.
  25. the peep show... there is always a "work around"... saw an "article" on yahoo about sex workers having a tough time of this. I carefully avoided some adjectives... masks on the dancers... like we go to look at faces
