  1. But then how will we get the random entertaining posts years from now asking about things clearly stated in the original post?
  2. I turned the sub into a passive sub, driven by an external amp. So, at the moment, I am not selling the grills. However, if I end up parting the sub out in the future, I'll post them on the forum.
  3. No. Welcome to the forum. It helps to read all of the original post, as they usually state all of the info you need.
  4. Hmm... marketing 101. This isn't new.... look at every food commercial out there.... When one goes to McDonalds or Burger King, the burgers don't look like they do on TV. A cup of coffee has dish soap added to produce the nice bubbles. I could go on and on. Yup.... and when this is tucked away behind a desk or cabinet, you can't see it at all. Look online when people are showing of all of their gear.... they have huge power amps sitting on the floor and a jungle of cables going everywhere. Some people just don't care about seeing a cable if it can't be tucked away nicely. Some examples:
  5. My 2 cents: I just recently purchased a used set of the sixes, ($260) so that's what I'll be using for a reference. They are pretty good for my application, as powered speakers for my computer. I also use them for background music as they are on a desk in my living room (Former office became a child's bedroom) It's marketed at the younger generation. The ones that do everything and spend every minute attached at the hip to their phones. Advantages: -They are easily placed right on their MCM cabinet, or one that they up-cycled, and either connect a usb record player (They own one because it's the hipster thing to have vinyl), or a streamer...or worse yet, they use bluetooth! -No receivers and other stuff to mess with... as this generation can't figure out simple things.... (I know, being a STEM teacher for over 20 years, I see more and more people with less and less problem solving skills!) -Decent sound from a small package. I was surprised at the low frequency extension for such a small cabinet. I use subwoofers on all of my systems, and this is the first time I haven't connected one...yet. -Relatively balanced sound right out of the boxes. Very plug and play. -The Sixes just look pretty darn cool! Disadvantages: - I'm guessing short amp life, if they are anything like the amps klipsch sources for all of the subwoofers I have owned over the years! - I use these as computer speakers and when no music is playing you can notice a louder than usual hiss coming from them. This was not the case on my R-15PM speakers. I'm guessing that the increased power of the amps over my R-15PM's is the reason. However, to be fair, I am like 2 feet away from the speakers, so there's that fact to consider. One might not hear this at a normal listening distance of 6 ft. or greater. I hope this helps. Other random discussion points to throw fuel on the fire: Most pro audio speakers went to powered as well.
  6. I can also include some cool Klipsch laser printed swag if you're interested.
  7. Sold to a happy new owner that drove in from Indiana!
  8. I did just sell them. (See picture from the happy new owner) I also just picked up 2 more sets for a decent price because my brother wanted a pair after hearing mine. However, the downside for me is that I had to drive 2 hours round trip to get them...and I can only fit one pair at a time in my car... so it required 2 trips. I picked up the second set figuring that I will share the love of sound with someone on the Forum looking for these but doesn't want to pay current online prices plus tax! (And hopefully pay for my gas and time invested in obtaining these speakers!)
  9. Compared to the RF-3's: The woofer section is very similar as I believe they use the same or extremely similar drivers. The RP-280's have the advantage because of a more solid/braced cabinet design. Where I really notice an improvement is in the tweeter performance. Much easier to listen to long term than my RF-3 II's and RF-82 II's. I haven't used the height speaker part yet... when I set up my dedicated theater area again then I will give that a whirl...but for now, it's the kid's play area. The finish on the walnut veneer is very good...and it's actually wood veneer where the cherry and black finishes are vinyl wrapped. Klipsch did a nice job with the finish of these including the magnetic grills. Compared to the RF-83's: I didn't do a direct comparison as I sold the RF-83's before I owned the RP-280FA's. So, this is only from memory... take that for what it's worth. The RF-83's had more authority at higher volumes...as they should! (I don't listen loud anymore, so most of my music is at background level, except for a few moments every year where I have a chance to sit and actually listen to my 2.2 music system... then I listen at what would be considered "normal" levels.) I liked the tweeter in the RF-83's as it was a little more laid back than a lot of my other Klipsch speakers. However, the RP-280FA's are intended for a different use, or at least I think they are. The RP's are great for home theater, where as I wouldn't waste the RF-82's as a left/right channel as it's way too much speaker, even if you set it at a crossover point lower than 80hz. Although, I really enjoy the RP-280FA's so far just in stereo mode when I was evaluating them. Like I said before, they are more balanced and easy to listen to than the RF-3 II's and RF-82 II's. If you have a chance to pick up a set for a decent price, I would give them a try. I hope this helps.
  10. New in box. Walnut finish. This is actual wood veneer finish, not the vinyl finish like the other colors. These are beautiful! Pictures are of my set. I will unbox at time of purchase to make sure everything is in expected condition. I don't want you getting home and opening up a box with speakers that aren't 100% perfect. Local pick up only at this time. Located in 60511 Far western suburb of Chicago. Asking $750 New egg currently has them for $679 each plus tax; around $1500 for the pair. Amazon has them for a little over $1200 before taxes. Also, good luck getting anything shipped these days and having it arrive undamaged! (For reference, the list price on these was $2400) If you want to hear them, I can demo the new ones I have in my makeshift home theater system before you decide to buy.(My regular home theater turned into a play area when I had kids!) You can also enjoy some tasty bourbons while listening!
  11. I just read this... Sorry I was too late.
  12. You can use a t-15 torx bit. Philips head screwdriver doesn't work.
  13. Crown k1. I did a test run yesterday and it worked out well. I most likely will sell this in the future, as it doesn't outperform my home built subs. I have a "one in one out" policy now to keep my stereo addiction at bay!
  14. I decided to use the original plates (Rather than the nice birch plywood ones I made) to fill the holes in the cabinet. So, I just removed most of the electronics. This is what's remaining... The controller is in perfect condition, the horizontal board is in perfect condition, but the vertical board lost it's corners as it was being feisty during removal... and I didn't really care at this point. So if anyone wants the electronics and/or the filler plates, send me a message. (PS that's about $5000 worth of plywood at today's prices! hahaha!)
  15. Just remove one of the passive radiators and you'll be able to see things better. There's a lot jammed into a small space. If someone opened it up before, they may have wrapped wires around things they shouldn't have. If the amp doesn't work, it's pretty much spare parts at this point. I just turned mine into a passive sub yesterday.
  16. Any last minute takers? Otherwise it is going in the garbage...to join most of the other Klipsch amps over the years.
  17. I've been looking with no luck. There are complete systems, but I haven't found any for a reasonable price. It's not worth dumping more than $10 into these. I like the idea of a new purchase order for something nicer.... Perhaps MWM's might draw some attention showing up in the front office!
  18. I started converting to a passive. So, the amplifier unit is for sale. $20 plus shipping.
  19. Hey, this gem just came up for sale ..... $200 what a bargain! Now, only $450 for all new drivers and most likely some additional $$ for new diaphragms. You will have invested more than $700 and you still won't have a speaker as nice and well cared for as mine for $575. Any takers?
