  1. I agree with you. However, both the Forte and Forte II were in the same environment, and I was simply observing their acoustical characteristics in that space. It's not like I had one set in the garage and the other in a wonderfully acoustically treated interior space. Would it be better for the low end to have them closer to a wall, sure. Would it be better to have them farther apart, sure. So, my test in this case was not an ideal comparison.... more of a worst case scenario test. However, it is getting people starting to participate in this thread... bonus! I know we all love to talk about our speakers... and I tried to provide a mouthpiece for just that.
  2. I have a Scarlett 4i4 that I could use that would be an ideal signal path, but, I like to do my comparisons in real world settings. A lot of people use the 1/8 output from the laptop into their system for everyday listening. (Or worse yet, Bluetooth!) I use the 1/8 output on my office system right into a set of The Fives and it works well... but I don't do critical listening there. I tried the usb be from my laptop to The Fives and I didn't like it as well as the 1/8 to the RCA input. All things considered, both sets of speakers were given the same mediocre signal.
  3. Good questions. I use a SBX4VC 4 channel speaker selector. Each channel has an individual volume control.(The large circular knob) I use this to set the SPL's using a white noise signal so that both sets of speakers play at the same volume... therefore removing the perception of the louder one being the better one. You can switch instantly by pressing the selector buttons.(The oval ones) So it's not like a lot of people that compare speakers like this... " Well, I heard a set of RF-7's when I was 30, then I heard a set of RF-7 II's when I was 50 and boy...."
  4. Saw these and thought I would pass it on. Seems like they are in decent condition. Also, seems like someone who is not mentally ill when it comes to pricing them as well. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/365404916281944/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Afa2fe862-1cd0-47ae-b31c-98070a6c94b3
  5. This is too funny! I have a good laugh at pictures whenever I see the $$$ cable risers. It's usually accompanied by huge amps/high end equipment placed awkwardly smack dab up front with a mess-o-cables running everywhere that looks like an amusement park. Isn't the point of your super high-end cables to reject interference? So, shouldn't it be okay no matter where it runs.... as long as it's not right next to a 220/440v power source? If it really mattered, why wouldn't speaker manufacturers that sell $50,000+ speakers include a set? Food for thought. If it were profitable, I think a snake oil company would have already designed and sold "Golden Ear Maximizers!"
  6. I just had to ask if those were actually what I thought they were....
  7. Today's humor: This guy on Marketplace is selling the Vega's for $400 (Complete with severe damage by the way!) ...but better yet is his apparent solution for missing dust caps on the Polk Audio speakers sitting right next to the ones for sale. Nothing says this guy values quality like replacing the dust caps with plastic solo cups... complete with glue running down the entire speaker cone! I hope one day to rise to the level of his craftsmanship! If you want in on this sweet deal, it's in Elgin, Illinois.
  8. Parting out EV S-152 speakers. Location: Big Rock, Illinois 60511 far western burb of Chicago Price: let's talk and determine something that works for the both of us. Pricing is all over the place for these from $100 just for the replacement diaphragms to a ridiculous amount for the whole set. I just want to sell these these to a forum member who will get some good use out of these. I can ship, as these would be pretty hard for the shippers to destroy!

Hello all, This is a great opportunity for forum members to snag a near mint set of RF-3's! I don't have any more room... ugh, the sacrifices we make for our kids! Condition: Drivers: All perfect and original with no marks/dents/ripples, etc. Grills: Perfect WITH NO MISSING PEGS... very rare! Cabinets: 9.5/10 with only a small mark that doesn't photograph and you can't see it from more than a few feet away. All badges and even the rubber tipped screw-in feet are included.... I've owned many Klipsch speakers, and I never realized these were even a thing until this set! I will demo, of course, and I also provide a nice sampling of tasty bourbons while you listen if you choose! I also welcome forum members if you're in the area or simply passing though to stop in and we can listen to some tunes and do some A/B speaker comparisons! Location: Illinois, Big Rock.... far Western burbs 60511
  10. Home theater is mostly center and subs, so having large left and right is overkill unless you use this system for music as well.
  11. Back again for the battle of the RF double 8's! RF-3 II v RF-5 Speakers:Klipsch RF-3 II and Klipsch RF-5. Room:Living room with 9' sloping to 16' ceiling Electronics: Emotiva USP-1 preamp, Rotel RB 981 power amp, dell laptop. Demo Songs: Stevie Ray-Chitlins Con Carne / Pink Floyd-Time / Electronica - in the end RMX / Sarah Bareilles - She used to be Mine When balancing the SPL's, the RF-3's needed a slight level increase, which tracks given the stated 98db v. the 99db of the RF-5's. The bass extension between the two was not noticeable with the demo songs I used. So the 37hz response on the RF-3's did not sound any less than the 34hz on the RF-5's. I'm sure if you measured it they would measure differently, but when using my ears, there was no noticeable difference. There was some difference in the mid...as should be expected with the different crossover points. (RF-3 1975hz v RF-5 at 2500hz) I felt that the RF-3's sounded a bit more welcoming in that area. The treble was noticeably different with the RF-3's being more defined and the RF-5's being a little more airy and open, but not as good with the imaging. I did the test both flat and with my "Klipsch Sizzle" eq setting. (Significant SPL reduction on the upper end) Flat, both speakers are a hard pass for me in a stereo setup. I'm sure they are fine with home theater, since most of the content is handled by the center and sub. With my eq settings applied, they became much more listenable. However, not my cup-o-tea. I would recommend them for the college age kid who loves to jam the music loud and is not to worried about catching all of the fine detail in a well recorded track.
  12. Oh, and in addition to a bourbon sampling and speaker auditions I will send you on your way with customized laser engraved Klipsch swag...
  13. I picked up a set of RF-5's to do an A/B comparison with my RF-3's as I'm a nerd like that and I like to listen to different speakers. Well, as usual, the guy lied and when I got there they were not in "MINT" condition. One tweeter is partially faulty and one of the 8" woofers has a small blemish.... enough so that I want to replace all 4. So, what I'm planning on doing is selling the woofers to those on the forum that want original 8" K-1083-SB woofers to restore their speakers back to mint. I know these are getting pretty hard to find in perfect condition. There are a ton on eBay for around $80 to well over $100 with shipping that have significant damage... I don't know how they are even asking that much! (I unsuccessfully tried ordering a used OEM replacement on eBay and it arrived damaged.... clearly not the one he used for a picture as the packaging wasn't the issue... they guy swears up and down it was the one pictured.... now the hassle of getting my money back from a guy that clearly has shady ethics!) I would like to sell all 3 that are in mint condition for $300 and the one that is 8/10 for $60. Audition at time of purchase to verify it works 100% correctly!!! Pickup preferred. Western Suburbs of Chicago. Price includes a sampling of some tasty bourbons and listening to some speakers if you wish to do so.
  14. You're welcome Scott! I hope you get as many years of audio nirvana out of this as I did! It was great talking audio with you.
  15. The brains of the operation. Basically when you go to separates, you split what your receiver is doing into two sections. A processor to take the signal from your dvd/bluray.computer, etc and turn it into a 5.1/7.1/ etc. signal. Then, from your processor you run wires to the multichannel amplifier. The advantages are 1) As the industry keeps changing sound formats so they can sell you new gear, you can upgrade your processor and not have to update your amp(s). 2) The amp is usually much higher quality than any found in your mid to upper level receiver. This is my processor (Integra brand) and you can see the power amps below and above. I hope this helps.
  16. I have the RF-7 II's and the RC-64 II's so I can only talk about those. I have driven them with: Seperates: Empotiva XPA-5 Rotel RMB-1075 Rotel RMB-1095 Receivers: Pioneer VSX 56TXi Denon AVR-5700 If you're planning on using the RF-7's for home theater (I wouldn't... too much speaker and you're not using it's full capability. Unless you also use your home theater for 2 channel as well) I would get a decent processor and buy a used Rotel RMB 1075 (120x5 at 8 ohms) or the Rotel RMB-1095 (if you want to just brag about headroom! 200 x 5 at 8 ohms).... these are the best amps I've been able to afford. They paired well with the RF-7ii's and the RC-64II's I have. If you're planning on using the RF-7II's for 2 channel, I'm sure someone out there has a good recommendation for an amp.
  17. I thought I would never let this go, but it's time. This is the receiver I always used to demo speakers that I was selling, due to its generous power supply providing extreme clarity and a solid amount of power to the speakers when needed. It's in perfect condition with no issues. Remote is included... a rarity for older receivers these days! Of course I will demo it at time of purchase. I've priced it lower than any other one I could find in like condition. Located Western burbs of Chicago... 60511 Asking $275 for forum members. Audition comes with a taste test of several tasty bourbons as well! I can demo on: Klipsch: RF7 II's / RF-3II's / RF-62 II's / WF-35's JBL: HP-520's Focal: Chorus 714V Polk Audio: LSi 15 Monitor 7's or anything you want to bring. I'm always up for hearing speakers!
