Better than expected, not sure what the message of the film was.

I was expecting the usual "everything is hopeless" and didn't get it thankfully.

Would be good on the big screen, wide panoramic shots,

and might have had the feel of a real WW1 bayonet charge in the theater.

I just recently saw this movie and what blew my mind is how the cinematographer captured the movie. Being photographer myself, the way the perspective of how it was film was outstanding .....

  2. Good Day all to you Audioholics....

Looking to build a suitable stand for my literally brand new RS-7's.  I made some for my previous surrounds but when I got my RS-3's, they were undersized and I would find them the ground after the cats were horsing around the house. My wife bought me some metal stands for the RS-3's so those now secured. I was thinking having some metal stands for the RS-7's out of 3/16" thick wall 3" square tubing from a local metal fab friend of mine but not sure if the cost of the material will be more than going with some 2X12's for base and top with some 2X6's for the uprights. No way to mount them on the wall based upon my room configuration or should I say I could but I could just imagine my gang of six cats wanting to kick back on top of them.

What have you done for surrounds & rears as far as stands goes?  Do you have any pics to share with me ?

On a side note, as I was driving into the office this morning over these iced over roads in West Texas, since I plan on placing the rears directly behind in the middle of the sofa seating areas, if I laid the rears on their backs with the sound radiating upwards, would I be out of mind for thinking this idea ? 🤪

Use a good high current amp on those RF-5's and they'll really pound.

Just purchased  a Acurus A125 x 5 in Mint Condition, still hasn't arrived yet but I am pretty excited about it. Going to tap into the Denon X4700 with it.    Oh and I forgot to mention the two SVS PB16 Ultra's to round up my little HT project.

The "mod" that makes the most difference in the RF-7's is adding a resistor to the HF circuit.  The rest of the changes Dean made to the RF-7 crossover were swapping stock parts with different ones of the same value.  The RF-5 does not need the resistor mod that the RF-7 does.

Thanks CECAA850, I've been searching hi & lo and with what I discovered is that the RF-5's is what I would call my youngest daughter a "Hybrid" in that she has all the traits of her Mom and older sister but extraordinary flare.  LOL I do love how they sound and finally completing my own Holy-Trinity with the RC-7 with the mod, RS-7, (& RS-3's for the rear) I couldn't be happier said no man ever that has become an audioholic....

I've waited for over 25 years to get Klipsch's product and it's been so worth the wait and now I have the perfect wife who supports my hobbies and who also tells me to "TURN IT UP" !!!!!

Googling works better than using the search tool for this message board. Looks like the modification addresses a specific problem that probably isn’t applicable to the RF5.

Thank You Sadie45.... Haven't found much more on this question....

  6. Hey Bill,

Thank you the reply, I had noticed that OP hadn't been on since 2019 but was hoping someone would chime in. Now, I am thinking of adding a couple RS7's to the system, I've been reading up on the manual of the X4700 and from what I understand when running the A125, I would change the setting to "preamp" so the Acurus would run the 5 channels. If I add the RC3's making it 7.1 instead of 5.1 as my rears and plug them into the X4700, with the receiver acknowledge the rear channels and send power to them since I changed the settings to preamp?  My viewing area is relatively small 15'x15' and my TV including the front's "LCR" are 15' from my sitting area.... By adding the RS7's am I adding something more than needed ?    I know this subjective to everyone's own opinion but would like some insight on this...  Thanks again....

Bear with me  little context is needed:

I bought my klipsch KT-LCR based set of speakers 20 years ago.

I have had and sold 2 pair of La Scala. :( used heritage make a great rainy day fund.

I have had and passed to family two pair of heresy 1.

After my divorce I moved to a smaller place  with a 13 by 15 ft living room open to kitchen on one side.

The la scala overwhelmed the space physically and sonically.

I tried to love the heresy 1 in this room but while great for movie just not what I wanted for music.

I just purchased a beautiful set of used klipsch RF5 in black. Spent hours last night loving them using Tidal to play a variety of tracks and artists.

The little discussed KT-LCR will be center and surrounds. For 5.1 I used an Svs 20-39 pci sub now.

I tried to like some maple klipsch rb3 II as main music speakers but the rf5 are just a whole big step up in stereo enjoyment. I listened in pure direct mode without the sub engaged.

My marantz sr7009 is paired with Acurus a125x5 amp.

I know now this is a bit of a story. But I just wanted to remind those who are quick to suggest their favourite heritage as the answer to all upgrade questions that each room and associated equipment may be best served by one of the great products in the reference or other lines.

You won’t know till you try.

So I sold the KT-DS surrounds to one of my kids friends years ago. I am now wondering what to use for atmos rear and front height effect to try out the atmos capability of the Marantz??

Just came across your post, just purchased a near mint Acurus A125 to mate with my Denon X4700... Interested to hear more about your set up... I am running the same RF5's and RC7, and RS3's for the surrounds

  8. Good Afternoon,

I just recently purchased this RC-7 that has this crossover mod installed, I have not received it yet and could not tell you what my expectations are since I have not heard the RC-7 before but everyone was suggesting to get the RC-7 to best match my RF-5's.  I've searched the forums and all I happen to find are topics of the RF-7+'s with the crossover mods. Is there any reason if I should or can this mod be done to the RF-5's?  Thanks in advance for your input

I have been a long term Klipsch owner and I am just becoming informed on upgrades. I have 4 RF-7 Floor speakers in excellent condition and would like to know more about this deang, his crossovers, who is he?, where is he?, how do I contact this person? Is he still in business? Deang crossovers

I also have 2 pair of Klipsch K-Horns. In the future would like to upgrade them. Volti audio has a upgrade kit. Does anyone know of anyone else?

Who is Bob Cretes? Is he a tweeter specialist? Does anyone recommend a tweeter upgrade for either of the speakers mentioned?

    Hey There,

I am with you, have found any more out on this? I just purchased a RC7 with this crossover mod and since I have never heard the RC7 before before or after the mod. Not sure what to expect.

Thanks Majestictone, I'm 80/20 the other way so I'm gonna have an emphasis on how good an amp pushes the RF-7lll I have.  I am clueless on what I can use for speakers on a music orientated amp, can most amps accommodate a sub woofer or 2 woofers, can they work with centre channel speakers or is there any advantage to use a centre channel speaker if indeed you can?

Any thoughts on the above us appreciated.

    Thanks, Gary

    Gary,

On my X4700, it has 2 sub outs as well as all the other 9 channels and bi-amped for 11 channels.

I was looking on the back of the Monolith 9X that there are no subwoofer outputs.  How would I go about connecting  2x SLP120 subwoofers since those subs are internally powered?

    Thanks, Gary

If I believe I'm correct, you don't use a separate power amp to run your subs since they have their own dedicated amplifiers built in already.

@Majestictone   capacitor life is in the thousands and thousands of hours - often referenced as 30 years.

everything you're looking at *should* be fine.   but new(er) might be less failure/maintenance prone.

Thank you for this helpful tip... I will continue to AudioGon to see what pops up....

So you're 4700 is 125 watts, how much wattage are you thinking you need for your speakers?

    Gary

Well, it sounds pretty darn good now but then again, I've only had the new receiver and the SVS PB16 Ultra in service since this past weekend. My ears are getting dialed in as well as the settings on my sub to accommodate my viewing area.  I know watching streaming movies vs UHD Blue rays will always sound different and I have yet had the chance to play a movie but plan on doing so this weekend. Since the receiver is "rated for 125W into 2 channels driven" this isn't a true indication on how much power wattage is going to the speakers and manufactures will not give us the true data but I am pretty sure it is not 125 watts into 9 channels and it was true, the chassis of the receiver would be twice the size and 80 lbs. heavier than it is now.

Most of my listening is 80% movies 20% music and I am not watching the movies at reference levels but my thought process would seem to indicate that at reference levels, you would need some power to get the most out of my speakers as I was told on this forum when I purchased my RF5's that I shouldn't wimp on power because these speakers love to be driven and that has been in the head ever since which is why I am thinking that I "need" that extra power.

  14. 14 minutes ago, garyclayton said:

Majestictone are you thinking the 4700 us too bright for your system?  Second question, what exactly does that reference mean in relation to what your looking for in an amp?

    Thanks, Gary

    Hey Gary,

Let me rephrase it, while the X4700 is perfect, I wanted more power to drive the speakers by adding an amplifier to the X4700. I am not sure if the amp would add a color character to the sound output such as bright, warm, middy in tone or am I such a newb that I have no idea what I am talking about ?..🤪 Also with what amps I have looking at, they seem to be 15-20 yrs old and would buy such an older amp would cause issues with caps and resistors leaking down the road? (Acurus A125 - Sunfire Cinema - Adcom GFA7000 - B&K Reference 200-5 Rotel RBM1075) or would I be better off with a New Outlaw 5000 ?
