  1. OK, what if instead I used an SVS TV-12 and made a bass horn out of it tuning it down to 16 Hz. Would this make more sence? I might jump down to the dB-12 and make a bass horn, but either way seems to be as long as I build the horn right, right?
  2. There was this girl sitting next to me in my computer class. Well for some reason I asked her if she ever heard of Bose. She said "yes, their the best." Well I just couldn't help it and I snickered at it. It was just to hard to not laugh about it. Then I asked, if it was because of avertisement and she said "no, from experise." I just wanted to show her www.intellexual.net/boseframes.html but I think she was to busy to look. And I think she doesn't like me much thou, because she left class 10 mins early. O well. Like it says, I couldn't help it.
  3. Well I have been thinking of building a sub. Well, not so much for me, but for a friend. How about a an Infinity Pefect 12.1 sub hooked up to an Adire AVA250 Sub Amp in a sealed or passive radiator box. I dunno what the price is on the sub, but I belive I can get it for less then Crutchfield sells it for. Also it helps to have that extra power handling for peaks and so it has a less chance in bottoming out. I can get the Kappa 10 inch for 90 bucks. Doing some math to help esimate the price would be 175 bucks each. The only thing it will be used for is music. And I don't think any classical music with pipe organs and such will be played. Also just a sub to play an easy 100 dB and maybe 105 all RMS. Any change in suggestions and/or advice would be wonderfull. Thank you in advance.
  4. Hey Erica, its me Dan. The model numbers are the RF-3IIs, RC-3II and RS-3IIs. I do have the RSW-15 but she has not seen or heard this yet. Also my reciver is a Yamaha RX-V992. I love my system as well, but after hearing the RF-7s, it makes me wish I was saveing up for em. Sadly I have other stuff to save up for and $1300 for a pair of RF-7s is an awsome deal and yet I can't do it at this moment. Well Erica, I really am thinking about doing a little DIY for you. A sub for me would be easy. Its the towers that will be a bit of a problem do to ohmes and price. If not this year, then I hope next year. Also as you know, I am trying to find out stuff for you to use.
  5. The only better price I can find is on the RF-7s. I can get those for 1300. Wish I had the money. But the other stuff is better.
  6. well the center speaker is a few feet higher then the sub. Basicly, my RF-3s and my RC-3 are about the same hight, maybe 1 or 2 inches off. I don't notice it rattling it off or anything, but I hardly go over 105 dB. The only time I do is to see how loud I can get it. I useally listen to about 75-85 dB.
  7. Well I guess you can say I cheated. I put the sub under where the center speaker is, but the bad part is, I won't know if its set to high. Well I got a test tone CD last year, tried it out and it seems the settings are much higher then they should be. I set my sub out to 0(Max) and the sub to half way, and my reciver bass is half way with the equalizer bypassed. When I had my sub in the corner I didn't need this much. My readings now are about 3 db less then each other speaker. The sub doesn't seem less louder then it was in the corner, but hey for a room this size, are you suprised. Any ideas?
  8. I may have mislead you. I got so upset I forgot the biggest thing. My sub plays louder then my RF-3IIs without a problem. Its just when I use my sub to blend in with my towers, the bass has to be set so low to not be detectable, that my towers on large and so on has more bass. Although, I have noticed some improvements. I belive the bass is more defined and for sure goes lower and adds to effects.
  9. I have had this thing for a few weeks now but with very little time to expermiment. It seems no matter what I do to the settings, my towers(RF-3IIs mind you) seem to do a better job. I tried the right corner which my mains are at and its doing this. Had the tower and sub switched still same thing. A little bit foward that is about the same lenght of the sub closer. I did this to perhaps help set the phase to exactly what my towers were doing. Some improvement but still detectable. It could be my room, could just be my ears noticed stuff. My room is a small 11 by 10 foot by 8 foot room that is enclosed from the outside. My reciver is a Yamaha RX-V992 and I am useing Monster Bass 300 Cable. I dunno where my scanner is so I'll have to tell how my room is. Right now I have my towers about 2 feet from the side walls and 1 foot from the back. My bed is on the middle back and is a twin size bed. I don't think my dresser or nightstand is going to make much diffence. If you need any other info just ask. Any answers would be great, thank you in advance.
  10. Its hard for me to say just yet. This thing sounds good but keeps telling me where it is and showing it shelf to me. Sure is pretty but I don't want to detect it by ear. The book says experiment. I really hope I find a solution.
  11. I can get an RF-7 for $650 each from an authorized dealer. Is this really a good deal? I think it would be awsome to have a pair, but geepers, i have other money issues at this time. Maybe next year or I'll get whats best then. O well, good things come to those who wait.
  12. The reciver I am useing is a Yamaha RX-V992. The speakers are listed and I think I should add my other stuff to my HT list.
  13. I useally listen to music. I have heard my music both ways. With stearo it sounds brighter and with Dolby sounds like there is more bass. But which actally sounds the way right way? Just wondering. I have also been looking at Parasound stuff. I am actually thinking of getting the HCA 750. Only problem is finding a dealer. There isn't even one in my state.
  14. Well sence I have bought the RSW-15 is been a little annoying. I love the way it sounds but it always let me know where it was unless I turned up the sub volume so low my towers were louder when set to large. So I just moved the sub around to see if that did anything. strangely no. But I messed with the phase switch by puting a finger on the sub active side, and on a conde of the RF-3II. What seems to be the problem is, it was out of phase the way I had it. So sence( for some reason the setting is 0 when faced the wrong way)now I know what to set it to when I set it back. This sounds pretty silly I know. O well. Well I do have a few questions. My Mains are cut at 90hz. So should I set my sub at 90 or just let my reciver do the cutting. But even at 120hz on or off, doesn't make any difference. And sence frequecnes uner 100hz are nondirection, 90 should be safe right? Also, with a good sub, should it sound like there isn't a bottom end? I mean it basicly sounds like there is no limit to how low it can go, even thou its not playing say 30 hz. Its hard to explain, but those who heard this probly know what I mean.
  15. I was thinking of getting a new DVD player from either of these companies. The only thing is, I can't tell which one sounds better because there all in different rooms with different stuff connected to them. So there is no real fair way to choose for me. I was thinking somewhere on the lines of 400-500 dollers. I can useally get at least 50 dollers off of MRSP. The Pioneer Elite DV-45a is about $450. The Onkyo DV-SP500 I could probly get around my price range. DVD-1600 has a good chance of being in my range. Now stats I know are one thing, but which one would be better in sound quailty. If it matters, I listen to music more often then I watch movies. About a 85% Music/15% Movies. This is the main reason I got the RSW sub. Any answers would be great. Thank you in advance.
  16. As of right now from CD to sub goes Sony Playstion 2, Monster Cable Lightspeed 100 optical cable, Yamaha RX-V992 reciver,Monster Cable Monster Bass 300 cable, Monster Cable Y adapter, then Klipsch RSW-15
  17. Bascily my thoughts were low loud bass without it being noticeable about the direction which it come from. I understand its um if you use this word overkill for my RF-3IIs so I figured I can just simply turn it down and ajust whats needed. Although I admit I like its effortless bass. Sounds smoother then my RF-3IIs as if it play the note without haveing to goto its bottom end try to to play it. I do admit its more bass then I'll ever need and goes plenty low(for my ears). So what should I actually expect then? Or should I just simply move it, which really, I don't have many spots I can put it in.
  18. For some reason, my sub seems to be very noticeable even if I cut it down to 40hz. Althought it sounds clean and definty plays loud enought for me, but the only thing is I notice it. I tried the phase switch(helped some), crossover or no crossover(very little help), and lowering the volume(Better but towers have more bass on large then my sub this way.) I have it about 6 inches from the back wall, 3 inches from my right RF-3II and maybe 2 inches from my beds right um foot. Also my room is ll by 10 feet. Also there is a shelf about 3 iches above it. Not much is on it and I don't play my music that loud that often. Also as ears said, the RSWs get better after time. I may have to wear it in first, but I am not sure on this. Any suggestiongs? Any help would be wonderfull. Thank you in advance.
  19. I should be getting my RSW-15 this week(last week of jan) and was wondering what problems you had(if any) of unpacking it and moveing it. I am not to strong and I will be moving this thing on my own. Getting it home won't be a problem. Its getting from the truck to my room. I was thinking of pushing the box on the floor and lift one side when nessary. Would this damage anything? The only plan I came up with uppacking is put it on the side and pull it out and put it on its feet when its out. Any ideas or what you did would did would be nice. Thank you in advance.
  20. I heard from a Klipsch dealer that he said the this one mirage sub downfireing 15 inch sub(I think its the FRx S15) made this room shake so much dust was falling off the ceiling. But he was never impressed with the RSW-15. But I did ask him if he ever heard it turned all the way up and he said no. Maybe thats why I dunno. Anyway, what sub do you think would play louder. If there pretty much the same dB wise thats fine, but the bigger thing is, which one is more accurate. While were on the sub topic, do ports make a sub inaccuare or do speaker manufatures have to make a sub a certian way to work so it is accuarte.
  21. Ok. Looks nice. Well I guess I didn't see it sence it wasn't in the pre-amp section. I thought it was odd. Thanx for the link. Also seems like a nice piece. By the way, is it worth it? And maybe one of there amps as well?
  22. Why does Rotel's highest pre-amp only have 4 pre-outputs. Basicly 2, 1 for A and 1 for B. And they also make 5 and 6 channel amps. Do they want you to buy 3 pre-amps and y connections? If so, this is kinda silly. You might rather have some other compines pre-amp because it has the right amount of pre-amp outputs for home theater. If you want home thether, you either buy ther reciever or some other pre-amp and one of there amps. If this seems odd and you want to correct thats fine, but if this is true, I find it kinda silly.
  23. Am I wasteing my time getting the RSW-15 while the RW-12 is comeing out, or do you think they won't make anything that good(or better) sence the RF-7 series is sill the top of the line and the RSW-15 goes with it? If the RSW-15 is still the best sub there makeing thats fine. It would suck if they came out with something better just a few months after I get it. CD
  24. Is that from an authorized dealer? Mine is. I also wonder if the place I am buying it from does a price match garentee. The only problem is proof.
