  1. Have an opportunity to buy these seemingly v1s in 8/10 condition light oak for $1,200. The caveat: one of them had a capacitor fall out, so the owner never played it after that and wisely won’t until Crites rebuilds the XOs. I auditioned the other one and it was phenomenal. The owner is an audio fanatic and a super cool guy to boot. Due diligence demands I audition the downed speaker but obviously can’t until XO is rebuilt. Pretty sure the owner doesn’t want to swap XO from the good one just to demo. I wasn’t able to confirm monster cable in the second speaker, but it indeed had the longer port tubes. I’ve read about a “V1” owner having sequential S/N and one having clear monsters, and the other, colored. This is a lesser concern, though. Thoughts? Edit: owner found a build date slip inside the cabinet when pulling one of the ports and the date was firmly in ‘94. Need some Sherlock Holmes action on this.
  2. Riddle me this.. a serial number of 04159xxx, but supposedly V1. Long port tubes and confirmed monster cable. Possible V2 conversion? Did some V1s get made in early ‘95??
  3. https://www.amazon.com/Rit-Dye-Liquid-Fabric-8-Ounce/dp/B001QX2G9S BOOM Thanks!
  4. Naw, black black. Light going thru it I guess makes it seem grayish. With overhead canned lights on and off. Glad your issues was resolved same day
  5. Finally took the plunge and gave the CF4’s grilles a deep clean vs the spot cleaning I initially did. Went down to the mud sink, dampened them, sprayed liberally with some turtlewax carpet cleaner, let sit a minute, agitated gently with microfiber cloth, then showered them off with the spray handle. Was satisfying watching 26 years of filth come streaming off until only clean water ran. Gently patted dry, then a quick once over with a hairdryer making sure not to get the glued areas warm, now sitting by HVAC registers catching heat to fully dry. No loosening around the glued border or anything; they’re pretty resilient. Just thought I’d throw my .2¢ in there if anyone was leery of cleaning their grilles. Absolutely do not do this with older sawdust grilles. Non-issue for Epics.
  6. +1 on this. I’d start with the least volatile methods and if necessary, work up from there. Vinegar does amazing things and luckily, the smell dissipates lol
  7. Heya! Going great, thanks. Hope you’re all the same. I was actually about to go with a VSX-84TXSi on recommendation from my uncle who said it was a great AVR. I ended up wanting some extra tech including app control built in so I found those Pioneer flagship models of around a decade ago checked all the boxes I needed for this particular room, and none of the stuff I didn’t, namely Atmos and 4K pass thru. Scored it for $450 shipped (original MSRP $2,100), lightly used and cosmetically perfect. There was a NIB one but the guy was expecting close to a grand for it. (GLWS...) It’s due in from Washington by middle of next week. I’ll definitely report back initial findings after running the setup. Confident it’ll perform more than fine for my intentions, but I’ll still probably end up doing a separate 2 channel for the Epics, or even a 3 channel for them and the center. What’s another $200, right, Emotiva?
  8. Haha! Actually the guy went dead silent on me then took the listing down shortly after. Cool, right? Anyway, I’ve got a SC-57 enroute now.
  9. Well that’s all that counts! I just think that maybe if you knew about all this stuff prior to purchase you could’ve got them down to probably 8-900. Or maybe not! Who knows. Point is you got yourself some awesome rare speakers and everything has a workaround. And then again, you can still politely call and let them know of all the issues and if they are really stand up guys, they might throw some of your cash back your way. It’s worth a shot in my opinion.
  10. That may very well be your issue as well. From what I understand is what you’re about to do is best practice anyway.
  11. Partially blown? Crossover on the fritz? How much did you buy them for? Were you allowed to audition them before buying?
  12. Is this happening even with lighter bass from rock music and such? Or only with rap or EDM type stuff?
  13. Yeah these guys shake the house alone when I was running bi-amped 200wpc last week. With that said, I’m still going to run dual 12” subs, both for 2.2 music listening and 5.2 surround for cinema as well as stuff like Porcupine Tree and all the stuff Steven Wilson is remastering in 5.1, including King Crimson, Roxy Music, Jethro Tull, Yes, XTC, Tears For Fears, etc etc. Not to mention more uniform sound, the subs will take much of that low end stress work off those precious stock K30-KNs.
  14. Only problem is that vinyl is really thick. Probably be difficult to simulate, and it’s a whole piece, the entire face of the speaker top to bottom. Maybe cut it away and find a patch material similar to it and heat it on?
  15. Sorry for the bad pic, but just in case, it’s the top of a CF4. Grille>vinyl>wood veneer left to right.
  16. While we got @314carpenter here swinging that heavy restoration knowledge, what would you do in this case? The vinyl(?) up top got mistreated somehow.
  17. Congrats! If I had to pick, that'd be the color. Old English lemon oil is a good place to start. Pics when you can, please!
  18. Isn't having the K30-KN rebuilt to spec, such as reworking the voice coil an option? That way the originality and look is preserved.
  19. @SonicSeeker KV4 still available?
  20. Half tempted to sell mine for a local mint pair, but ehh.. the logistics of it all, not to mention some sentimental attachment.
  21. Yep. Versions seem to blur so, I’d just call it a V2 and not give it another thought. It’s what I did lol
  22. Do they have a 2” tweeter as well?
  23. Thanks for the lead though! Cool one showed up right away.
